How’s everyone coping runnng in the better weather? I struggle badly as soon as it gets hotter, sun drains me out silly. Have dragged myself round 3 morning / evening 5-6ks in the last week, but it’s not been enjoyable
Really struggled last week, mainly with hay fever. My sister likes to get the parkrun photos of me and send them to the rest of the family. Last week's me face looked like it had been frosted (this is the clean version)

Going out early morning so I'm back before nine. Tried doing 10k setting off at 10.00 on Wednesday. Big mistake. First time I've ever stopped part way through after only 7.5, but I knew to carry on would be silly. With all the technology available, I still think you should run based on how you feel, not what stats your watch throws back at you.

Aerobically it doesn’t worry me too much, hydration is a battle but it is more the risk of cramp on longer runs in the heat that gets to me. It is definitely tougher in the heat though.

In the 3 years I’ve been running I have never been too hot but then I only discarded my gloves a couple of week ago. The only way I can get enough enthusiasm to go out for a run is if I go out early so that helps as well. Having moved house a year ago and slowly discovering new training routes I have made use of Jeskins quite a lot. It’s location and the never ending NE winds ensure you keep cool.

I admire anyone who can get up and just go running. I wake up exhausted every day so takes a good 90 mins to 2hrs before I can even consider any exercise. By then the temp and humidity has moved up a notch.
Went out just gone 9am this morning, only did 35 mins at a very slow pace, but despite a very cold shower I was still sweating an hour afterwards!
I’m learning that trying to combine being exhausted from work and running in this weather just don’t go together.
Regretfully, I think I’m going to have to quit work :-)
Glad to see you have your priorities right. I ran 10k yesterday afternoon 🥵 Did it in just under an hour, which is not to be sneezed at, well unless you're a hay fever sufferer!
I could have stayed cool and gone pot holing I suppose, although these days you don't need to go underground for that and can do it driving at surface level in your car 😉
Went to Fulham Palace on Saturday - not the most exciting of runs (though it's by the Thames) but good to tick off. Back to Charlton on Saturday.
Ripped this off from one of the parkrun Facebook groups, should anyone fancy a combined parkrun/away trip...
Barnsley - Barnsley
Blackpool - Blackpool
Bolton Wanderers - Haigh Woodland
Bristol Rovers - Eastville
Burton Albion - Rosliston
Cambridge United - Coldham's Common
Carlisle United - Carlisle
Cheltenham Town - Cheltenham
Derby County - Alvaston
Exeter City - Exeter Riverside
Fleetwood Town - Fleetwood Promenade
Leyton Orient - Hackney Marshes
Lincoln City - Lincoln
Northampton Town - Sixfields Upton
Oxford United - Horspath
Peterborough United - Ferry Meadows
Portsmouth - Great Salterns
Port Vale - Hanley
Reading - Prospect
Shrewsbury Town - Shrewsbury
Stevenage - Stevenage
Wycombe Wanderers - Wycombe Rye
Wigan Athletic - Haigh Woodland
And yes, I have just reserved a hotel in Carlisle...
I did Fulham Palace earlier this year, only notables are that the church is the church from the Omen so you have to be careful of being pierced by a falling spike and that there was a BBC newsreader doing it (I forget her name now…)

ha! It wasn't Sophie Raworth, was it? She does lots of ultra-marathons.

And google says…..yes it was…well done you, treat yourself to a neon blue isotonic drink with an unpronounceable name and a sickly aftertaste…

apparently it ‘completely disrupts the day’ when I disappear at 8.45am to Avery Hill for an hour so I can just imagine how well away day Parkruns are going to go down! 🤣

I might swap that for a cinnamon bun from the cafe in Charlton Park if that's okay!
I'm okay with parkrun but longer runs my endurance is way below what it is when cooler.
On that note, anyone else doing the North Downs 30k next Sunday? I can wait.
Not doing it this year but marshalling. I am at the bit where the route crosses sole street. Good luck. Looking warm on the weather front.
Thank you. I'm jealous TBH. I'm really concerned about tomorrow now, it'll be 30 degrees at the time I'm due to finish.
Last year I found it harder than the flat marathons I did. I think I'll get to Cobham (4 miles in) and see how I'm feeling, I've had heat exhaustion and the like before and don't want that in the middle of nowhere. There is going to be such a high attrition rate.
Hopefully next year they move it to May or earlier in the day.
Kingston Parkrun today, lovely sunny up and down the side of the Thames. Those older than me can (apparently) regale themselves with fond hilarity as they run past where the Monty Python team “famously” slapped each other and danced with fish (?) at Teddington Lock. At least that’s what the lady said before the start…🤷♂️

Good luck tomorrow, there is a water station near my marshalling point that I suspect will be well used. Hoping my medical skills are not required given the heat.
a lot of the course is quite well shaded by trees which will hopefully help.

Mrs Hex may have been marshalling as well had we not decided to get out of the frying pan and come to Greece instead. She started at Istead Rise about the same time as you so you may have met her.
We walked part of the NDR course a couple of days ago and I found the ground very unforgiving, like bobbly concrete with large cracks in places. Not my idea of fun ! As you are going to be near Sole Street, solestreetweather.uk will give you the current temperature etc.
Did Weymouth a few weeks back and ran my fastest time for two years, incentivised to avoid paying more for parking as the charges were exorbitant.
Kettering Today (45th time for me there). Bit slower than usual but not by much, as I got chatting to a friend I'd not seen for a while whilst going round, the first time I've ever allowed myself to be distracted. Done a few park runs in the last few weeks now, enough to conclude that I'm back, back in the Parkrun groove! 😎
Record broken by Butchart this morning. 13.45 in Edinburgh.. It's the porridge you know!
Presumably it was a bit cooler up there than it was at Charlton yesterday!
I've done Edinburgh before - flat out and back alongside the Forth. Great scenery and perfect spot for a fast run. And you get a half-hour lie-in as the Scottish ones start at 9.30...
Thanks Kigelia and thank you for marshalling. That really was brutal. I was 14 mins slower than last year @ 3h27 but I reckon I finished a lot higher. Everyone (inc me) was walking all the hills and taking breaks at water stations. Marshalls helped handing out extra water too.
At the 17-18k stop the Harvel HH Harriers team were handing out cold beers I politely declined.

Changing the subject anyone doing the city 5k next month? I managed to get a space.through my old firm! Always a fun race if hot and dusty
