  • Ali gone for 11 to Lyon.
  • Malan gets another 50. At least here's someone with a bit of grit and determination.

182-6 and still 77 behind. Probably still need to bat for another three hours?
  • Australia lose a review
  • That boundary rope is a joke - it's got more wrinkles in it than Joan Rivers pre surgery!
  • What a soft way to go - Malan follows one down the leg side to be caught by Paine.

Mike Gatting in drag is clearing his throat.
  • Only Stoneman of the batsmen who are out has failed to get to double figures in this innings. So it hasn't been that difficult, until today, to bat on as long as one applies oneself. We just haven't.
  • 200-7 and 59 behind

Just seen Malans dismissal.......would imagine paramedics will currently be treating Geoffrey Boycott!
WTF was the lad thinking of?
  • Nathan Lyon catches one wrong from a chance and is off the field for repair on one of his bowling hand fingers.
  • Broad with the bat has gone from being quite useful to a terrible no.11

  • I know he is batting at 10 but he's batting like an 11
  • Tempted to wait for the returning plane and throw eggs and rotten cabbages at it. Is there a massive one day and T20 program to follow?
  • Jimmy hit on the helmet, somehow I can’t see him surviving for 3 hours
  • I’m on the tube between Baker Street and Edgware Road with WiFi in stations. If this msg posts I doubt I’ll get to the next WiFi station let alone the office before it’s over.
  • Absolutely gutless. It's not even a barnstorming Aussie side. Stokes wouldn't have made one iota of difference
  • Broad looked pretty gutless for his wicket
  • Coach must be under some serious scrutiny.
  • Only Stoneman of the batsmen who are out has failed to get to double figures in this innings. So it hasn't been that difficult, until today, to bat on as long as one applies oneself. We just haven't.

I think you"ll find that extras, with 17, is the 4th highest scorer. That says it all.
  • Made it to desk. Bugger.
  • Arse, I have been out on a medical emergency and finally get home, switch on the cricket to hear ".....and Australia win back The Ashes."

Nip out for half an hour and come back to find that we've lost the Ashes.

Humble pie on my part because we simply won't good enough. But it wasn't the failings of our newcomers but more the inadequacies demonstrated by Cook, Root, Broad and Ali - that's your two best batsmen, a leading front line seamer and only spinner. Really didn't expect all four of them not to turn up.
  • We now have to start blooding some new players. Sentiment out the window, there is simply no point in picking Cook anymore, nor Broad on this tour at least.
  • Series lost in Bristol anyway

No denying Cook has been absolutely abysmal.........thus far anyway.
I just have a feeling that he still has something to offer and wouldn’t exclude him just yet.......he’s not very old and has been wonderful for so many years.
I think he still deserves one more Test series and see how things go.......if it’s clear that the mojo has gone, then that would be the time for him to bow out gracefully.
Very interesting to see what he has to say on the matter at the end of this series.

The dynamic of this England side has definitely turned.
The group do not appear to be tightly knit and I wonder if there's a bit of niggle there.
For instance, Swanny mentioned that when the bowlers were struggling on Saturday morning the batsmen in the field were offering little support and seemed reluctant to try and pick them up.

The experienced captain Cook doesn't appear to be offering much advise to the relatively Green Root.
Whether that's because Root wants to do things his own way and is distancing himself from Cook or Cook doesn't want to help I don't know.
    Needs sorting.

In stark contrast to the Aussies.
I have nothing but admiration for them. They got all so right. They are tough and made us look like, well whinging Poms! They took the piss out of us, undermined us and thrashed us. I wish we could show that attitude.

I would go more down the Boycott line - we simply don't produce proper pace bowlers capable of 90 plus mph or genuine spinners. We are fine at home (as I should add are most Test playing nations) but abroad we struggle because we don't have the players capable of adapting.
  • A real problem arise if we follow the classic English line by winning one or even both of the last two Tests because the Aussies rest Starc et al. All of a sudden everything will not seem quite so bad when, in reality, they are.

Equally, the Aussies have had their issues in the last 18 months. It just so happened that, for the first time, they happened to have their best three quickies and spinner playing in the same series at the same time.
