This is getting ridiculous. Paine is given out LBW Anderson and reviews. DRS says missing on height but no way was that ball any higher than Smiths that was given out. Paine was out of his crease and further up the pitch than Smith but not to an extent to make that much difference.
I still think I'll trust the calibrated-to-within-millimetres tech over your opinion Riv. :-)
Why? It's not just me. Listen to Agnew, Vaughn, Tufnell and Swann. They have all questioned THIS VERSION OF DRS!! I'm not talking about the one we use over here, I've never found any issue with that but the system that Cricket Australia have adopted is not the one we use anymore. They dumped Hawkeye for a different domestic version. Why accept something just because it promotes itself as so accurate? The trained naked eye with the benefit of looking at incidents again is better than the system employed this series.
Received a Christmas card from an old colleague today.
In early 1979 we were working and staying in Barry (pre Gavin and Stacey) and had adjoining rooms. She recalled in the card listening to us win the Ashes on her transistor radio overnight and banging on the wall until I banged back to acknowledge the good news!
James Anderson speaking on BT Sport: "We're behind the game a little bit, but we are where we are. The rain helped us a little bit tonight. Tomorrow we've got to come back with a good attitude.
"I thought the application today was really good. We've got plenty of batting to come too. We'll rely on everyone tomorrow to get us through the day."
Well, its not just the England performance which is shit - the TV coverage is too. BT have gone for the low budget, low quality, Aussie dominated format , which tbh , is far below average- who wants to sit there and be told by some smug sneering Aussie how to bat/bowl/field??. Even the DRS used is shit (ask Riv !). There are a lot of people in senior management within the ECB who will (hopefully) be in the pooh come the quadrennial Ashes post-mortem where its all 'overhauled' and a 'future plan' established but the same result applies in 4 years time. Who i feel really sorry for are the thousands of people who have travelled out to Oz at least hoping for England to compete. I think the first thing to do would be to drop Cook and Ali, bring in Crane and someone else, anyone, i dont care - let Cook retire and Ali feck off back to Worcester never to be seen again.

Aussies declared just after lunch. I think we can avoid an innings defeat with a target of 240, cue no day 5!
No point putting emotional scars on the likes of Foakes.
Then I woke up.
Seems a lifetime ago
Starc just got more turn bowling at 90mph than our fucking spinners get.

Will the Aussies have to bat again in this test.
I say yes ,but only just.

And a batting average of 19.
Well done Mo - you've really excelled there.
