  • Stoneman definitely deserves more chances

Am so glad Porter was injured and has missed this tour.

He wouldn't have played anyway. I bet we name an unchanged side for the remaining matches
  • How we have managed to get to the point where we are going to be soundly thrashed by an innings is incredible and something only England could possibly do.

    Don't panic.
    We will draw this test
  • We need @Fanny Fanackapan to start a cyclone dance !!

  • And we won't find them all the time we insist on playing County Championship matches in the main in April, May and September. Or batsmen, for that matter, capable of facing real pace.

    Spot on.
  • all the old excuses now coming out - however, as i have always said , England will always struggle to find a competitive team - and is wholely due to the fact that successive governments have allowed sport to become unimportant at state schools and therefore the participance of kids in cricket is negligible.
As an example, my son is 13 and goes to a state school in Cape Town. there are approx 60 boys in his year and they have 3 cricket teams who play every week. anyone who has lived in Aus will tell you the same applies there.
Cricket ( and sport generally) is important to these countries- far more important than it is here, hiw many state schools even play any cricket here,
In the general sporting theme , the results in The Olympics recently would tend to make you think that the UK places a high importance on sport but this us purely elite athletes being funded by the lottery. Mass participation at school level is almost frowned upon.
Wbat we are seeing now, is the propogation of decades of sporting decay in the schools
  • Broad and Anderson will both be extremely effective back in English conditions during our summer. Perhaps they should retire from away series.

However, you say that Canters and i sort of agree they keep serving up the buffet stuff away from home, but Jimmy took a 5 fior n last Test and im sure that someone will confirm that his revent overseas figures are quite decent
  • We simply do.not have the strebgth in depth in any of the areas.
  • Anderson is not the problem he has nearly always delivered when it matters.
The problem is that we have no one alongside him with genuine pace.
Also we do not have a spin bowler who is good enough.

20/20 is the problem. I've been saying so for years. Cricket needs to split, 1st Class and non 1st class and you can only play one code.

That would kill test cricket, no way some ones going to turn down earning hundreds of thousands or even millions for a few weeks a year just so they can be ideologically pure.

Anderson will always keep control at least, but the Adelaide conditions, especially under the lights were highly favourable to him, and not likely to be found elsewhere on this tour
  • T20 has done a lot for test cricket in my opinion, it’s made matches a lot more entertaining and made draws less of a sure thing if a side needs 250 off of the last session on the final day. It’s also (along with one day cricket, which started it) raised the level of fielding tenfold.

Imo we’re going back to relying on county championship too much, remember the days of fletcher plucking an obscure bleached haired teenager called James Anderson because he had decent potential and moulding him into a test great. Okay maybe jimmy is a bad example because fletcher did try to completely overhaul his action, but the point remains, he did the same with a young Harmison, trescothick, s Jones etc.

International cricket and first class cricket are very different and always will be. They’re really trying to make the first division of the championship the top level when it just can’t work like that.

This shitshow makes my Xmas shopping morning at Bluewater seem an enjoyable prospect

Planned to watch the cricket all day, at Tea decided to go and do Xmas shopping definitely more enjoyable than watching us bowl. Looking at 300 deficit and a day and a half to salvage a draw. Please rain.
  • Be all over tomorrow they will bat on until smith gets 300 and march 200. Then skittle us out for less than 150.

England's attack is full of decent medium paced bowlers. We have a decent attack in English conditions, but in Australia, bat friendly pitches where the ball is doing nothing , you need express pace bowlers & a decent spinner. England are seriously lacking on both counts.

We'd beat them in England, but until England unearth fast bowlers & a good spinner, they'll continue to beat us in Australia

And we won't find them all the time we insist on playing County Championship matches in the main in April, May and September. Or batsmen, for that matter, capable of facing real pace.
I don't think English pitches are going to match the hard bouncy wickets of Australia even in June or July. If we want to have players capable of playing the Australian conditions with effective pace and aggression, the ECB need to actively encourage lots of young players to join Australian sides over the winter period.

  • Anyone else gonna watch the first session?

Marsh out first over. Given out LBW bowled Anderson. Reviewed but umpires call.

Smith gone for 239 now on review. Second lbw for Anderson of the morning session.
  • Same over, another wicket. Run out this time. Comical really...

    561-7,

    Marsh 181
    Smith 239
    Starc 1

    Paine 1*
    Cummins 0*

Smith out finally! Again LBW Anderson, was given Not Out and England reviewed, and I must say I was surprised having seen the side on view that is wasn't at least Umpires Call on height. I know I've said this before but the system used by CA is flawed. It is NOT Hawkeye, it is domestic version and it is crap. If you don't agree just look at the ball yesterday when Anderson reviewed a turned down LBW against Smith, it was actually a No Ball so that was that but if you saw "Ball Tracking" by this version used by CA it said Umpires Call and just clipping Leg Stump when anyone who knows cricket and has played the game knew it was hitting middle and leg AT WORST! This pitch is doing nothing but the DRS system is showing the ball deviate like a green top at Trent Bridge in April!
  • Starc out! Run out after another LBW appeal. Three wickets in half an hour after just one in 6 hours!
  • Almost another run out... Aussies are at sixes and sevens all of a sudden.

Shame they have a lead of 160...
  • I really don't think this is helping our cause. We can only draw this Test at best and the less time we have to bat the better.
  • New ball coming in two overs.
