Does that qualify him as a 'prick' ?!
Dobell is a good cricket jounalist.

Archer bowling pretty damn quick in the BB for the Hobart Hurricanes. They have Mills as well. We could have done with that sort of pace in the Ashes but, unfortunately, Archer isn't qualified and Mills is a T20 specialist now.

Archer is a brilliant prospect and Mills cannot bowl more than 4 overs for medical reasons. I don't understand how someone can bowl that fast but have a back injury that stops him bowling more overs.
It's all a bit weird re: Mills. I wonder if there was no T20, he'd suddenly be available for Tests? He's up there with the quickest I've seen......

Mills apparently has a "thin spine" and is very susceptible to long term injury. If there was no T20 he wouldn't paly cricket. Also, although he may well have improved, for Essex in the champs he was cack.

As I suspected much earlier in this thread.

This makes a mockery of the whole bloody thing. Unselectable for England in an ashes series, but can go and earn fortunes playing elsewhere. The only people suffering are the England cricket team. Absolute joke!!!

I suspect that the ECB don't want to be sued under "restraint of trade" but aren't willing to pick him given the possible prosecution.

Make of that what you will. I don't believe a word the man says. He is incompetent at this level and needs "Downtoning" asap.

yeah why not. tbh Mickey Mouse would be a better choice than Ali right now.Sydney is renowned to have a bit of turn so let Crane have a bit of a rip.

MCG on notice after ICC rates pitch 'poor'

MCG pitch in spotlight after governing body hands famous venue a formal warning

The marquee match of Australia’s home summer schedule – the annual day Boxing Day Test in Melbourne – could be stripped from the MCG if there are repeats of this year’s sub-standard pitch that has been formally rated as ‘poor’ by the International Cricket Council.

In the wake of the drawn fourth Magellan Ashes Test that attracted criticism from both competing teams, commentators and administrators, the ICC acted upon a report from their Chief Referee Ranjan Madugalle (who officiated at the match) to deliver the verdict which is unprecedented for an international venue in Australia.

Had the Test finished two days later, the nation’s most famous cricket ground would have been slapped with three demerit points as part of a new ‘name and shame’ system from the ICC that came into effect on Monday.
  • i notice the total attendance for Melbourne test was 262,000....amazing.

261,995 if you exclude me! Crowds looked a lot smaller than what was announced.

Slightly off topic, but I am somewhat pleased to see that Matthew Wade has been charged with a "code of conduct breach" for the send off he gave Jos Buttler the other day. For those that didn't see it, Wade ran past Buttler as he was on his way and shouted an expletive right in his face.

So Crane is coming in to the side for the injured Woakes but Moeen retains his place. So we now have just three "quickies", one of which is a rookie, but four players capable of bowling "spin"! Let's hope the wicket does turn square.

    Good luck to the lad.
Must admit , his first class stats don't pull up any carpets.

Let's hope it doesn't; Lyon is better than all of them

A very convenient minor strain for Woakes, enabling the management to avoid having to drop Moeen and play Crane as the sole spinner

Could see us winning this one - until Starc passed the fitness test.
Hope Crane bowls well, maybe our spinner for the future (no pressure then)

They could, of course, dropped Ali anyway & brought in another bowler..........or played Stokes.

ok, after looking at the weather forecast and a bit of Oz playing after already won the thing easily, am going for an England win - to back up my original prediction (i think) of a 3-1 series win.
Need Root to win the toss, and bat first, then its cloudy and overcast on days2 and 3, so hopefully Jimmy will come into play too. Crane to bowl us to victory late on day 4

I'll have whatever you're on. Crane to go all around the park.

It's raining and toss has been delayed.
TMS is on, currently a chat between the 3 best members of the team; Simon Mann, Ed Smith and Vic Marks. I could listen to Victor talk cricket all day long.
