So Cook was on the field for the whole Aussie 1st innings.
On the field for the whole English 1st innings.
Will be on the field for the whole Aussie 2nd innings.
Any player ever been on the field for every ball of a test match?
Geoffrey Boycott in 1977 I believe.
That was his 100th 100. He was last man out for 191 I think and then he was 80 not out when we chased about 200.
No, we won by an innings. It was Nottingham where he was 80* in the 2nd dig but he was out 5th or 6th for 107 in the 1st innings in what was his comeback Test. He also ran out local hero Derek Randall in that match.

Ah ok. I remember the 100 on his return, he had scored 20 in about three hours when Knotty came in and they both got tons.
You can thank me for those two wickets. I watched the first 15 overs and then had to stop thinking "oh well looks like the Aussies are batting their way out of this".
Four balls later, Bancroft is out and soon after, Khawaja is gone too.
Anyway, the bad news is that Warner and Smith are going to put on 100 because I just checked the score.
Forecast is cloudy with showers in afternoon. Hopefully this will enable Jimmy to get the ball moving, with a new ball sometime in mid afternoon. Gonna be tough to get a win without getting rid of Smith and Warner early- possibly a frantic last hour run chase chasing 70/80 with Oz delaying tactics.
It's got a draw written all over it. By the evening session they will be 100 ahead with only 5 or 6 wickets down. They may even declare & put us in for 20 overs & let Lyon do his magic.

They wont declare. they could never get so far ahead to make it impossible for us to get the runs - only maybe in last hour if they were 200 ahead just to make a taunting gesture.
I'm going to say something that might appear somewhat controversial, given that he was written off earlier in the Series by some and that is that Jimmy Anderson, to date, has been the best bowler overall from both sides. Statistically anyway, if we look at number of wickets, average per wicket and economy rate:
Top 5 bowlers in the series (listed in order of number of wickets for convenience only):
So, only two bowlers have more wickets than Anderson, only Starc has a better average per wicket and Anderson has the best economy rate (in the case of Starc by a country mile). Anderson's wickets haven't just been tail enders either given that he has got Bancroft, Warner, Smith, Khawaja (three times), Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh (twice) and Paine (twice). Compare that to Lyon, for example, with, the walking wicket to off spin that is, Moeen Ali contributing to six of his 17 wickets!
It's just a shame that the Aussies have had four bowlers taking it in turns to bowl at the top of their game and we haven't.
