Just watching (as you do) the highlights of the India v Papua U19 World Cup match. PNG were 64 all out from 61-4. In reply India got them for no loss - in 8 overs!

The aspect that really hit home though is that both opening Indian bowlers were hitting 87-88 mph. Our England Test side would struggle against that let alone 16/17 year old from PNG.

I was watching England v Namibia live last night, or the night before, funnily enough I was concentrating on looking at our seam bowlers speed. They averaged around 74/77mph

Having previously taken in the BB the best caught and bowled I have ever seen, Archer has just brilliantly run out someone and then with the next ball bowled a batsman on 100 at 94mph. The sooner he gets qualified for England the better!

Edit - Archer's final figures were 4-0-27-3 out of a total of 187-4. And he was responsible for the other wicket with that run out.

    I'm confused

He's NOT allowed to play when under investigation, but now he has been charged with a serious crime IS allowed to play.

Or did they feel that the affray charge wasn't strong enough to stop him playing?

    Brilliant!

davidwarner31Thanks to the @englandsbarmyarmy for brainwashing my daughter.

I don’t get this either, given that affray is a serious offence.
Surely, he should have been free to play in the Ashes as he hadn’t been charged at all at that stage.
    Very odd.
  • lack of genuine quicks is always India's main issue as they are never short of good batsmen or spinners so could be something to keep an eye on if those two come through to the senior test team
  • What a farce, I assume he'll have to appear in public in court?

Perhaps the ECB had in mind him wearing an ear piece and microphone whilst batting.
  • Stokes makes both the Test and OD Teams of the Year. Perhaps it's a good job he didn't play in the Ashes:

ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2017 (in batting order):

    Dean Elgar (South Africa)
    David Warner (Australia)
    Virat Kohli (captain) (India)
    Steve Smith (Australia)
    Cheteshwar Pujara (India)
    Ben Stokes (England)
Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper) (South Africa)
    Ravichandran Ashwin (India)
    Mitchell Starc (Australia)
    Kagiso Rabada (South Africa)
    James Anderson (England)

ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2017 (in batting order):

    David Warner (Australia)
    Rohit Sharma (India)
    Virat Kohli (captain) (India)
    Babar Azam (Pakistan)
    AB de Villiers (South Africa)
Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper) (South Africa)
    Ben Stokes (England)
    Trent Boult (New Zealand)
    Hasan Ali (Pakistan)
    Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)
    Jasprit Bumrah (India)

  • Babar Azam and Hasan Ali ?

Did i miss the Pakistan series?
  • Was watching the highlights of the U19's WC - England v Bangladesh. A couple of decent players there - the spin bowler also bats a bit & the captain looks like he can hit the ball.

Undecided what to do about tonights ODI. Do I stay up & watch it all night (I'm working from home tomorrow so no need to get up early) or get up at 7am & just watch the 2nd innings.

Anderson at a push. Personally I would have the Aussie bowling attack of Hazlewood, Starc, Cummins and Lyon intact. The Aussies have a couple of problems themselves in the opening position, Khawaja is a bit up and down also. I think the Aussies are only going to get stronger. We are short of a couple of bowlers who can bowl at 90 MPH, an opening bat, a number 3 and a frontline spinner.

As so often with cricket it depends where the imaginary match is being played. In Oz, agree no Anderson but in English conditions you'd have to pick him I suggest

Yeah, anywhere you gonna get some movement Anderson still one of the very best - his 5 wickets Adelaide bear testament to that. Our bowling attack did lack bite, but that was known from the start, the real failing of the tour was the batting. Every single pitch had runs in it, but we got one decent score the whole series. Almost every inning we had one batsman get a score and the rest all got out for under 30. The Batting lineup

What a farce, I assume he'll have to appear in public in court?

What a mess. The way the whole situation has been handled has made no sense. What is it about British sport governing bodies?

Australia win the toss and bat first at the Gabba.
  • England are unchanged.

Australia have made three changes: Paine, Cummins and Zampa out... Carey, Richardson and White in.
  • Root takes 2 wickets. Aussies 124-3.

Finch still there though so a big score likely if he remains.
  • Finch gone 216/5 with 9 overs left.
  • Aussies 255-7 now off 48.

Strong finish from England given the Aussies were 209-3 in the 40th over.
  • 270-9 off 50

    Some excellent bowling from England
  • 270 will be eaten up by this England team.

Looked well set for 300+ at one point.

Let's hope so but 271 is the par score here.

True, and we do sometimes struggle on slower surfaces.
  • Roy out - and that is why he isn't a Test batsman yet simply because he doesn't think. "See ball hit ball" - straight to the bloke standing at silly mid on.
  • Now I am going to have a moan here. And I can hear you saying "it's not like AA to have a moan" but here it is.

As we know, the ball has to be returned to the Umpire at the fall of the wicket. Why do bowlers and fielders feel that it's OK to do that any old way. "Return" means return not throw in the approximate direction of the Umpire! And if you want evidence of what I mean, take a look at Root when he dismisses Head caught and bowled - he throws it back over his head as if he's telling a dog to go and fetch it.

    Rant over!
  • Where does the name Jhye come from? Another lad who isn't tall but is bowling at over 90mph.

Ali and Bairstow seem a lot happier from what I've seen. Smiles on their faces.
Not sure if it's the format, the personell change or the lower weight of expectation?
  • Few things annoying me whilst watching this.

Ball tracking is sponsored by Specsavers and the pitchmap is sponsored by someone else and the commentators don't stop mentioning it. Very annoying

Tye is wearing bright rwd/orange socks. Sorry but that's just not cricket.

Old English name according to Google...

It's the same watching the Big Bash. They have someone who sponsors the replays, and every time its 'and here's the Bunnings Warehouse replay to show how he was out' etc etc. Incredibly irritating.
