305-4 off 89 at close. Undefeated 5th wicket partnership of 174.
Malan 110* (174) Bairstow 75* (149)
England's day without a doubt. The Aussies will come back fighting tomorrow morning but, if these two can see out the first hour, then we could be 500-8 declared at tea to give us a session at their batsmen.
I havnt seen any play, but what I've gathered from Cricinfo, Malan has ducked most of the short stuff today?
He got a top edge for six doing so but, generally speaking, there have been no "happy hookers" today and that decision making has made a big difference.
Great fight back from Malan and Bairstow. The Englishman in me fully expects both to go within the first 15 minutes tomorrow and we post less than 350!
Terrific partnership from Malan/Bairstow, really pleasing to see some fight. Now we've sorted the batting, the problem looks like being getting 20 aussie wickets on what looks like a road.
Assuming Stokes comes back at some point (but probably not this series), whilst it absolutely helps the balance of our side, assuming Vince is the one dropped (and we don't leave Cook out too), it actually creates a bit of a problem.
Presumably Malan will go up to 3 (assuming that Root won't do) but that will mean that the top 3 are all left handers, 5 of the top 7 will be so inclined and we'd have 7 of them in the side - would have to be some sort of record!
As already mentioned, these two must knuckle down and fight like hell to see out the first hour tomorrow and see off this new ball, even if they only score a handful in the process.

I remember there was a time a few seasons ago, when we had al situation where all our bowlers were right handed bowlers but left handed batters, I thinl it was...Jimmy,Broad,Stokes,Ali and That Kent spinner

I think you meant to say "that Kent Legend James Tredwell"

As Stoneman seems to have convinced that he can score runs at Test level, then Cook may well come under pressure, so, for next season, maybe the line up will be.. Hameed,Stoneman,Malan,Root,Bairstow,Stokes,Ali,Foakes,Woakes,Broad, jimmy.

Bairstow wants to carry on with the gloves so we will probably be able to have another spinner at 9, who knows maybe even Rashy!!!

As much as I love the bloke, and have defended him against all the naysayers over the last few years, maybe this is a series too far for Cook.
