With all due respect to Porter I'm surprised that he bats above Coles a man who has scored at least one first class century.
Jamie is ferret, he should go in after the rabbits. However he is a blocker and often goes in nightwatchman, so maybe they though could hold the end up and let TenDo do his stuff whereas Coles might get a bit swing happy.

Coles' batting is erratic though. And we wasn't in the team for this match anyway, he was only a concussion replacement!

An interesting ruling, allowing concussion replacements. Correct for the medical reasons, but slightly awkward if the person brought in takes 5 wickets like Coles did!
Middlesex had to bring in a replacement in their match, but as he was a spinner rather than a seamer, wasn't allowed to bowl.
Interesting how he credits playing overseas for much of his bowling improvement
“Just bowling more overs has been the difference, it helped being captain at the beginning of the year and being able to give myself a bowl whenever I wanted.
“I had a busy winter coming into this summer and was bowling a lot at the various competitions I was playing in, not necessarily in games but in nets and I really enjoyed it.

It's shocking ... and I've only looked at the County Championship! They might as well rename the St Lawrence Ground to the Elm Street Oval and change the mascot to Freddie Krueger.
Kent played 6 County Championship matches at HQ in 2018 (the other home game was at Tunbridge Wells against Warks) and the 1st innings scores were:
Kent - 64; 215; 241; 104; 137; 436 - a total of 7 bonus points with an average score 199.50. Oppo - 110; 181; 56; 229; 105; 186 - 1 bonus point, average score 144.50
If you needed any proof where the title was lost, there it is: an average 1st innings score at home that doesn't even equate to a bonus point. Including the Tunbridge Wells match actually makes the average worse as we only scored 197 first up against Warks. Mind you, they only managed 125!
Our second innings scores were much better, averaging 231.00 across five innings at Canterbury (we beat Glamorgan by an innings so only had one knock) compared to the opposition's 135.67 (although that average is heavily distorted by Gloucs only needing 108 to win the opening match and Leics having a target of 75).
Batting and bowling stats from the six Canterbury Championship matches:
The batting averages aren't too flash with only Bilbo and Zak above 30 (Zak's 168 helped his numbers) and only two centuries at HQ this season ... one of those was to the no. 10!
It was interesting to see how batsmen got out. For example England's Joe preferred to make the wicketkeeper do some work (7 out of 11 innings) whereas Dicko (5 times), Zak, Stevo, and DBD (4 each) liked to put their legs on the line (of the stumps).
Of our bowlers Henners appeared to bowl the straightest at the stumps: there were 12 bowled and 7 lbw amongst his 36 Canterbury victims. Next best for stump-splattering was Stewie with 5, Stevo was second in pad-rattling with 4. Ivan was the only bowler to claim a caught-and-bowled ... and he managed it twice.
Bilbo and Rouse were understandably towards the top of the catching table but Dicko held onto the most this season with 13.
DISCLAIMER: Unlike the previous sets of stats I posted, this time I've actually had to do some work to produce these so there's every chance I've stuffed up somewhere! All I've done is analysed the scorecards for the home matches. Unfortunately the cards don't indicate where the fielders were when catches were taken so I can't break down "other catches" into slip corden, boundary etc. Sorry!

At the time some were questioning whether that was just a bit of blame deflection from Bilbo after team selection and choosing to bat first.
The Championship stats seem to give some weight to the skipper's concerns.
I haven't looked at the Canterbury cards for the One Day and T20 comps (it was enough of a job doing the CC) but it would be interesting to see how seam and spin fared.
The thing with short-form matches, though, is that it isn't so much spin causing problems but just pace taken off the ball causing the batsmen to force the issue and throwing their wicket away.

As I say he played a 2s game for us last season so we have had a chance to look at him close hand. The original connection I suspect is probably Roland Lefebvre as he not only coaches in the Netherlands but also has close links to Kent and has acted as guest coach at District sessions here too.

Harry Came who, a former Hants graduate, had a prolific season in our 2s scoring four hundreds in the process. Consequently we offered him a two year contract but he has elected to sign as a pro for Hants after all.
