It’s not often I take an instant dislike to one of our players. I even gave Innes the benefit of the doubt until Wimbledon away. Afraid Cissoko goes straight in alongside Djimi Traore.2

Despite everything, that wasn’t a bad performance. Bear in mind the Neville sending off was harsh, Cissoko probably wouldn’t have come on if Neville hadn’t gone off, we looked immediately shakier with 10 players, and the own goal was a bit unlucky (although the defending leading up to it was not brilliant).
A bit of luck and we’d have got something out of that.
The Cissoko sending off was irrelevant really. But she didn’t cover herself in glory at all (as predicted by some!)1 -
Quite galling to somehow lose a game where there were zero shots on target. We had our chance to get a goal but N'Dow couldn't get her header on target. After that we could have seen the game out for our first point of the season but the ref had other ideas. I'm not having that as a red for Neville, absolutely no need to jump to the red card there, and then we were down to 10. The big mistake was bringing on Cissoko because the defence were doing brilliantly and we had Lobato on the bench. I guess Hills was going for a bit of experience to see out the game but Cissoko's only experience is in losing her entire mind and assaulting people so not quite what we needed. Robe did fine other than the very unfortunate deflection off her so I'd much rather that she and Lobato had come on. I hope that's the lesson learned with Cissoko and she can go the way of Omar Pouso in terms of her Charlton record. It's such a shame because we defended so well and restricted Everton to not troubling Whitehouse even once, it feels like the kind of stuff that happens to a newly promoted team where everything just goes against you. Let's hope we get a bit of luck in our favour in return soon3

I've woken up even more frustrated by that result. Everton could have been out there until next week and not scored if we'd kept 11 on the pitch and it's the daftest red imaginable. The 4th official has given it despite not seeing it properly and it's cost us badly. Bringing on Cissoko also did that but I'd like to think with 11 on the pitch and one of those being our best player on the day we'd have held out, especially given Everton couldn't muster a shot on target. Would have been nice to get a point on the board so early2

It seemed like a yellow would have been fair at the very most. Maybe Hills has been doing some cat volleying too!0

The thing I haven't seen mentioned is 10/15 minutes later there was an equally high Everton boot, our player stooped a little to head the ball but they should have gone down as if they'd been shot. The ref would have been challenged to show some consistency and send the Everton player off too3

The fewest goals scored in a 22 game season was Aston Villa 5 years ago, with just 13 goals.
We will play 26 games due to the expansion, but i think both those records could be in danger.2 -
Going back before the WSL era, there was a record of 4 points and only 6 goals from a 22 game season in the then top division. That was us, after we'd ended up with no funding and a team assembled from the remains of the previous season's development squad and some random tier 3 and 4 players we'd recruited at the last moment. To be fair to that team, 4 draws from 22 games was a huge achievement given the imbalance in funding that year.0
