ok the logo is pants, but i'm willing to give the whole thing a go
i thought people were too quick to dismiss the millenium dome which was the last big project (other than wembley) for london to pay for/visit and the media criticised it as they had nothing better to talk/write about and it failed purely because of that imo.

the olympics i hope will be great.
Sorry Suze, don't really agree with your point re. The Dome, it was a collosal waste of waste that was filled up with a load of crap that was easily accessible at various other, established points around London including Science Museum, Natural History Museum and so forth.
If they built the Dome like it is now then it would have been far more successful in my opinion. Anyway, hindsight eh....
Luckily, the Olympics is the Olympics and we'll be successful for what it is (unless the arse falls out of the sport by then because of drugs etc) regardless of where it is. Obviously the infrastructure needs to be in place but i think the event sells itself.
Well done for people trying something different a la The Dome but come on...
i don't think it was a waste, i thought it was an educational museum, that had new and interactive educational things in it. the media, like with wembley and the olympics jump on the negative slant from the off, till everyone believes its going to cost them however much money for nothing spectacular then they believe it.
the majority of conversations i have about the millenium dome, people say it was a waste of time, but never went. why didn't they go? because they heard it was crap. I only know about 10 people who went. and 9 out of 10 enjoyed it. i think someone else on here went and didnt enjoy it, we've had this convo before. my whole family went and we all loved it and wanted to go back, but it closed before we had the chance.
so what if there are other museums out there, this one is close to us, i'd rather go to a museum in greenwich than in kensington or wherever. i know museums aren't everyone's cup of tea, but the media ridiculed the dome for years before it opened as with wembley (they've relented since it opened since it is spectacular but still find some negative points (pricing refresments) and rightly so) but thats after its opened.
i'm fed up of reading negative comments towards something that won't exist for another 5 years. who knows if it'll work, but i hope it does. and i hope at some point we'll get to use the facilities ourselves.
Don't mind the logo. Not fantastic but I can see what they are trying to do, it will be easy to use on a range of different materials and items, it's not too fussy even if it is a bit too youth for me.

It does and it's crap. My 8 year could do better, any chance of them paying me shed loads of cash to get him to do something better?
Can't disagree with anything you said Suze, suppose it just wasnt my cup of tea when i went and then you hear that £xm was spent on it it seems a waste.
If i hadnt heard the price, you are probably right, it wouldnt have bothered me.
Anywhos, i think the Olympics and the whole event is going to be great, it wont rest on the fact that a logo is pants!

Really? what design agency does your kid work for?
Just seen it for the 1st time and i must say it lacks impact and will be out of date come 20012, why is London in lower case, LONDON is the capital so it should be in Capital letters. The 4 Logos are obviously north,south.east,west. Someone needs to explain why it cost £400k of OUR money, surely it could have been produced for much less, a hideous waste of money yet again, looks too difficult and have just seen the video which was rubbish as well, should be scrapped, nuff said rant over.

Our money? why are you a share holder of Lloyds TSB, or EDF?
The Olympics will be great, but unfortunately the logo/brand, call it what you will, is complete bob.
So what if it looks good animated (it doesn't - it looks like Ricky Gervais doing THAT dance) when the idea is for it to go on merchandise, etc - unless they are going to invent an animated baseball cap?
I was working and travelling in Australia in the mid 90's and they actually changed their original logo for the Sydney Olympics about 3 years before they started. There was alot of controversy because alot of people had bought merchandise and souveniers with the first choice design.Maybe its a cunning plan from Lord Baldrick Coe to do the same with such a crap first attempt.

It's only a logo.

Said it didn't work well static, looks good animated.
I think this could look great animated. Reminds me of the Tour de France logo.
