  • That was much, much more like it.

Rivers broke the record for most completed passes to start a game 23 and tied record for most consecutive completed passes ever at 25 =‘with Tannehill who did his 25 over two games.

They could be, along with the Pats, the team that beats the Chiefs. In addition to Rivers' best passing season, this team has 2 outstanding running backs and they can control the ball all game. Finally, they have given up the 4th fewest points in the NFL. I think they would take out KC in the playoffs.
I like our chances of at least reaching the playoffs now. But news about Melvin Gordon needing a knee scan tomorrow has dented optimism. I know cardinals have been dire but that was a perfect game for Bosa to get up to speed after his injury layoff.

I think wins against steelers and raiders will all but guarantee wildcard. There is even a small chance we could knock Kansas City off top spot in the West, but very unlikely.

  • Hilarious, surely we’re only a few games away from Rodgers actually crying on the field.
  • Get in there Vikings.
  • These TD celebrations are getting more elaborate with each game. I am expecting one team to morph into a Transformer ( Vikings, Assemble! ).
  • I am falling deeply in love with Lamar Jackson.

Also watched the Colts game and forgot how good Andrew Luck is.

Nah, he won't leave this year or next. Too much dead cap. Maybe we could see a random Osweiler-style trade for him, but I dunno. We'd have to ship off a high pick for that as well.

Even so, we need to rebuild big parts of the FO and try and instil a less fighty and more disciplined team culture. This is unlikely to happen quickly but it needs to happen ASAP.

A trade for Stafford has been mentioned. Like you said though, what do they do with Bortles if that happens?

There should be a few franchises looking for QBs this offseason - I'd guess Jags, Broncos, Raiders, Dolphins, GIants, Pats for a Brady backup/successor, Redskins, possibly the Lions and the Bucs.

  • Rumour has it than Lewis is moving upstairs at the end of the season with Jackson being installed as Head Coach......

    I have no words......
  • Bortles has been benched, and Kessler is to start.

I'm sad for Blake the person but indifferent about him as QB. Hopefully we can find a serviceable replacement somewhere, or Kessler turns out to be a franchise player (lolololololol), but this season is done and time to look forward to 2019.
  • Dalton moved to IR, the season that just keeps giving

Time for me to payout on our bet then. I'll honour it with Kessler at the helm as well. Hopefully he strings a couple of wins together for you.

Strange season after a promising start.

I think Austin Ekeler is a better runner AND receiver than Gordon and I believe once SD recognizes that, they trade Gordon in the off-season rather than pay him the $5.1M he will be due next year. Ekeler has a higher yards per rush and per reception that Gordon, who in all honesty, struggles to get past 2-3 yards on about 90% of his carries. I think Austin is the best unheralded running back in all of football.
  • Raiders should trade Carr to Jacksonville for a first rounder before everyone figures out what Raiders fans already know... that he sucks and his stats are mainly junk stats consisting of passes between 0-5 yards.

We'll be lucky to win another game we got a bit lucky early in the season in a couple of times. You cant win if you cant stop teams scoring a td every drive, its a dismal watch. Even my mate who comes round every Sunday to watch has been pissing himself laughing, our D is a joke. I even expect Case to have a career game against us next week and I'm sorry I think he's pretty shit to be honest!

Gordon is criminally underrated. I like Ekeler but he's not at Gordon's level.

I agree Ekeler is underrated but having them both in the RB corps as duelthreat runners/receivers is one of the biggest reasons for our success this season.

Defenses know Gordon’s strength is yards after contact, they worry about that leaving Allen, Mike Williams (who’s toetap this week was one of the best I’ve seen) and the speedster Benjamin to make plays downfield.

Most complete roster we’ve had in some time and let’s just have a word on Rivers. 25/25 to start a game, one incompletion all game?! Cardinals or Rams you still gotta put the ball where guys can catch it. Ageless wonder.

This is turning into a long post but I’ve just landed back at Heathrow after my Chicago adventure. Bears/Vikings was absolutely immense. Spent all day in the city then to see that live was something I’ll never forget!

    Now I need sleep.

Two seconds, let's just magic some cap space out of nowhere.

    Won't happen.
  • How comes when you release a player his salary can still be dead cap space for the team that no longer has him ?

Dead money is the salary cap space a team must allocate to a particular player who has been cut. It serves as a device to ensure that every dollar a team has paid players is eventually allocated to that team's salary cap.

Because of the way NFL contracts work.

We have guaranteed Blake money through next year - i.e. he's gonna get paid $15m (or so, I think) in 2019 - and that therefore counts against the overall spending cap.

NFL contracts aren't guaranteed - I'm probably a bit off/basic in my explanation and I don't know how best to articulate. @NapaAddick is probably better placed to explain (I'd appreciate any explanation too!).
  • Literally all I know is how it's done in Madden, the "bonus" part of the contract each year is guaranteed money so has to all be paid each year for the length of the contract even if they're not with the team any more, but the club he's traded to takes over the salaried part.

I guess the bonus/guaranteed money part has become more prevalent with players standing to lose a lot more if they get a serious injury or things go tits up and they wound up cut.
  • Thanks for that link.

would be a lot easier if they couldn't prorate a signing bonus over the term of the contract when they pay the bonus in full in year 1.

Reuben Foster arrested again and now released, such a shame for someone that looked so promising in his first few games. The NFL isn’t exactly known for its spotless ethics but I can’t see teams touching him anymore, all that talent wasted.

49ers waive Reuben Foster after he got arrested again, the third time this year.

Picked up by the Redskins three days later. He’s on the “Commissioner’s List” which means he’s unavailable to play or to practice until an investigation into his conduct is settled.

Never underestimate the Broncos ability to sniff out a crap QB and pay over the odds for them....

It was a mistake paying him at the time and a mistake to go into this year with him as starting QB. It's no secret I don't rate him at all but they may have wasted this Superbowl window. It's fine replacing him next year, but the Jags have still wasted money on him which means they can't build talent around any future QB.
  • playoff picture as it stands

    AFC
    Divisional
    1st seed - Chiefs (9-2)
    2nd seed - Patriots (8-3)

    Wildcard
    6th seed -Ravens (6-5) @ 3rd seed - Texans (8-3)
    4th seed - Steelers (7-3-1) @ 5th seed Chargers (8-3)

    NFC
    Divisional
    1st seed - Saints (10-1)
    2nd seed - Rams (10-1)

    Wildcard
    6th seed - Redskins (6-5) @ 3rd seed Bears (8-3)
    5th seed - Vikings (6-4-1) @ 4th seed Cowboys (6-5)

Obviously expect this to change a bit particularly in the NFC where there are several other teams sniffing around
