Professional footballers/athletes do not get absolutely shitfaced like that on a Saturday night or any night during the season. If they won the league in a canter and played most teams off the park last season I would not feel so judgemental. But the fact is they were mostly complete shit last season. If half the team were regularly getting into this state then it is hardly surprising that they got no where near promotion.
Seems like they not only played like a Sunday morning league outfit last season but they decided to adopt the laddish chavy culture as well.
Really?! I'd say that plenty do exactly that on a night after a game, especially British players.
This. I’ve seen it first hand. The drinking culture is not as rife as it used to be, but it’s still there and always will be. If it’s on a Saturday night after a game and they are in and training the following monday, then I don’t see it as being a big deal.
Does everything that everyone does reflect badly on their employers?
If they were on a club trip somewhere and stole a cab (lol), or played up at the airport on the way back from an away game, fair enough, but this is a personal bit of banter that has been leaked ** Edit- and as far as I know, no one in the pub at the time made a complaint did they?**
Imo, it ain't got anything to do with the club and I don't think that 99.9% of the public in that boozer, or looking at the video online would even have a clue who them blokes were, unless if they weren't told but even then, I reckon a good 50% would say, who f**** Charlton?
You've never read a professional footballer's contract have you? (Or perhaps any contract of employment?)
But here's some exerts to help you get your brain in gear:
"knowingly or recklessly do write or say anything or omit to do anything which is likely to bring the Club or the game of football into disrepute cause the Player or the Club to be in breach of the Rules or cause damage to the Club or its officers or employees or any match official."
"except to the extent prevented by injury or illness to maintain a high standard of physical fitness at all times and not to indulge in any activity sport or practice which might endanger such fitness or inhibit his mental or physical ability to play practise or train".
are the types of phrases that might give you a clue as to what a player's responsibilities include.
Not only that but any agent worth his salt should be drumming into his numbskull employer's feeble brain that it is really, really important not to do anything to jeopardise your contract. (Remember Mutu?) If you were a not very good central defender, a knackered right back that would have been shot if he was a horse or a junior dispensible goalkeeper then this behaviour is foolish in the extreme.
I'd expect final written warnings to be handed down together with the regular fine though, rather that instant dismissal for gross misconduct but we'll see.
I can't see anything there that says players can't get trolleyed and take the piss out of each other
Dear oh dear, ive heard first hand about the Wimbledon days from pros back then, you lot would want them nicked I guarantee you, I didn't condone everything they did but lets get it into perspective here.
I would love to see some of the reactions on here to a Saturday/Sunday football dressing room, I honestly think some of you would just cry.
To some on here this is something to be aghast about about, for the rest of the UK, this is tomorrows chip paper.
I hate the term 'It's banter' this is exactly what the sun have run a story about though! Shock! Horror! Young group of men take the piss out of each other and use bad language when on the piss.
Fucking hell
I'd be pissed off at whoever was videoing this, and this is the bit I'll sound old. Live in the moment, I'm very, very happy mobile phones with such strong resolution were not about or being used by my pals when I've been out on a session chatting absolute bollocks.

To be fair, the banter is the video that they are sending to Kennedy - Phillips is filming it. It would have been a pretty rubbish video if they lived in the moment and didn't record it... :-)

In that case it's my fault for not watching more than a couple of seconds
I'll rephrase, whoever shared the video outsode the circle of trust is who I'd be pissed off with. nobody likes a rat
These blokes are not just a bunch of mates having a bit of "banter" between themselves on a Sunday League team. They are pro footballers and that comes with responsibility, everything you do in public represents the football club and everyone else associated with it.
That's leaving to one side the fact that it's absolutely sh*t banter in the first place.
It slightly saddens me that when we see footage of our players on social occasions, there usually seems to be a divide between the white players and the black players, you never seem to see them mixing together.
Quite a few of the black players are religious.
I wasn't suggesting all the players should be on the piss together, but you can socialise and "bond" without getting rat arsed. These are meant to be professional athletes after all.
When you hear about successful teams, you often hear about their team spirit, how they all bond together, there are no cliques etc
I think it is something a well run club should instill in its players and staff. You do have responsibilities surely. Having said that, it does come down to whether the two players named were upset and insulted - and if not it should just be a rap on the knuckles and put down to STUPID drunken behaviour rather than racist or malicious.

No, you don't. But let's say the new owner has higher standards both in their own personal behaviour and the quality of the players in certain positions. Ideal excuse for bye-bye time, I'd say. (Anyone want to volunteer to run Solly's testimonial....it must be due sometime soon, if he's still at the club.)

I'd be amazed if a new owner needs this sort of behaviour as an excuse for a cull down there mate.
I'd get half of them done under the trades description act as a pro footballer
If club owners decided on whether or not they want to waste their money on one club or another based on their players behaviour, football in the UK would have died about 80 years ago
I've posted this before but it's relevant to this incident. An interview I read a while ago with Frank Lampard asked him what one piece of advice he'd give to a young pro at Chelsea. It wasn't work hard, it wasnt practise as much as you can, it wasn't take care of your diet. No, his reply was 'stay clear of social media'. Wise words.
Solly, Lennon and Phillips all the hangers on in today’s squad. Not good enough!! and after seeing that not fit to wear a charlton shirt. We are not Millwall!!! It’s About time the fucking banter and jokes stopped from the camp gone on for too long - get some fucking results instead

I haven’t read any of the previous posts or bothered to look at the video. Basically I just can’t be bothered. Old tosser of an owner, incompetent management team, shit manager, coaching staff not up to much and playing staff that drink harder than they play. At least we have a nice pitch.
Comments
Edit....... I've narrowed it down to about 40 players and 5,000 fans

Solly should lose the captaincy. He should have been the one setting th example

The others though can do one.
