Absolute legend. Charlton should retire the number 4 shirt in his honour.

I wouldn't go that far; he did once score against us!

But JJ has been a great servant and a credit to the club in very difficult times.

Hope we keep him on the coaching side.

Isn't the whole point that he will be concentrating on coaching Charlton full time next season? I imagine he'll be kept on even if/when Robinson leaves

I'll look back on his career with a big smile, one of the rare ray of light in the current darkness. The free kicks against the Sheffield clubs, the goal on New Year's day at Watford in front of us, great memories.

Pretty sure he confirmed his retirement months ago.

Really hope he is given the big send off he deserves in his final game at The Valley.

Yeah, I'm in a bit of a dilemma, may actually break my own stay away vow if Roland is here to say goodbye to JJ.
    Go to Rochdale.

    Absolutely agree

Genereally think that would be a great gesture from us as fans

How would we make this possible? @Henry Irving @Airman Brown

Seems a bit of a coincidence that Robbo has a big strop and 2 days later Jackson announces he will be full time on the management side next season. Also, who has agreed his contract if everything is seemingly on hold until the takeover???

This is like when you've been caught out committing a crime but I went back through the come in no.4 your time is up thread, and this is what I wrote

Probably one of the best threads on the site currently. He was lucky the team was strong enough to accommodate him last season. Adds nothing this season. The odd assist and couple of goals he's got are nothing compared to the sacrifice the other midfielders have to make in doing his running for him. I don't buy any if this talk about his leadership capabilities. He can lead in training and by following Hughes' example being on the bench and encouraging. He is definitely one player who's contract we do not want to re-new.

I can say that I have written a lot of shit on this site over the years, but this has to be the one of the dumbest things I think I wrote.

Jacko, I'm sorry, and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done for the club and wish you a long and happy retirement. It has been a pleasure to watch you and please ignore such a comment from an agitated knob head such as me.

Best of luck for your future

Proud to say I was there for his first goal. Great strike from the edge of the box to make the East stand erupt with what seemed like 5000 tottenham fans
  • Such a shame his latter years have been clouded by the current ownership. He is a true Charlton man, through and through .

Him, yann and solly are the three I would have loved to have seen have a crack at the prem in a charlton shirt.
If he had pace he would have spent a large proportion of his career in the top flight.

Great player, great club man and great leader.

    Christ he's retiring... not dead!!!

What next? - Players warming up in Mavididi shirts paying homage to his current injury?

I think you are asking the wrong people and in any case I don't think retiring the shirt is justified.
  • Think if we're going to do something then it should be to get everyone to vote for him as Player of the Year

There have been very few stand out performances it wouldn't be like anyone was robbed of deserving it - I know Jackson hasn't played much this year so it would be a token award but it would be more like when Ryan Giggs won SPOTY, that was for his career rather than the year

Great servant to the club, especially at times when the club didn’t deserve it. Will be sadly missed if he goes. Thanks Jacko.

    Completely deserving it's own thread.

JJ has an affinity with the club and fans that has been rare in recent years. I hope he will still be able to maintain his connection with the club in some capacity.

Good luck for the future JJ, it's been an honour to see you play in red and white.

Best Skipper we have ever had - rivaled only by Benny Fenton and there will not be many who will remember him.
    Great stuff JJ and thanks

"Best Skipper we have ever had" Really ? Certainly probably the standout player of the last 4 years but best ever skipper ? Would you really put him in front of Kinsella ?

  • Only real legend of last few years. Forget Yann etc the word banded about too much.

A legend is unanimous across the support and JJ is exactly that.

Two great captains, but the kinsella sides were top championship/premier where JJ had to get blood from a stone in league 1/championship. Other than making sure his team got a decent bonus on getting to the Premier Mark didn't have all the shite Johnnie has had to cope with.

    Top man, top player.

Good captain and servant for the club. Scorer of a number of some excellent and important goals for us, sometimes simultaneously. But retiring the shirt?

    Way over the top.

Kinsella was of course a better player, but Jackson was a better Captain.

The best in recent times certainly

We always remember the 2 free-kicks against the Sheffield teams, in consecutive games (I think). I still think the goal from the corner against Hull is more memorable than against QPR, seeing as he had literally just come on. Also dragged us back into the game against Cardiff - we could have been 2-0 down at half time & out of it.

    Great memories.
