There seems to be an assumption that if England v Belgium is a draw, then England win the group. But that's only the case if England end that game with less yellow cards than the Belgians overall... I think.
If they have VAR it needs to be on a 'challenge' basis like cricket, then there wouldn't be so many stoppages in one game, teams would save it for a clanger.
Yep, or tennis. One challenge per half, and if you challenge correctly you get to keep the challenge, and if not you lose it.
Did the ball go out of play in the lead up to the corner though? VAR may get the decision right but if it should have been a goal kick in the first place it makes a bit of a mockery of the call.
I hate Ronaldo and therefore I hate Portugal. Very pleased at the goal by Iran. I also hate Iran. But I hate Ronaldo more and therefore was rooting for Iran.
Not watching Portugual but seems like a great VAR decision in Spain game but a poor one in Portugual match
How do you know it was poor if you're not watching it?
To be honest i thought it was hand ball but it's not deliberate but it's more the ridiculousness of it. He literally waited about 2 minutes before running over to review it. It's supposed to be quick!

VAR is ok as long as competent officials are implementing it. We just saw an example of incompetence in the extreme. Ronaldo's was never a penalty either!
I thought VAR was ok up until now, but tonight it was a farce
Said it before the Tournament
VAR is going to be used by the wrong officials, guys who arent used to the speed of the game from their Domestic Leagues and arent going to be used to the technology so wont know how to use it properly
The ref for Portugal v Iran was comically bad. He won't get another game at this tournament.
Breaking down the 'VAR' moments one by one...
Portugal penalty was correct decision. Tick for VAR.
Ronaldo elbow should've been a red card but the ref bottled it after being directed to the replays. Tick for VAR.
Iran penalty was marginal and shouldn't have been reviewed, although at the same time I don't believe Portugal have a right to complain. On balance, cross for VAR.
Spain goal was clearly not offside and right to overturn the decision. Tick for VAR.

Watched both games live on two computers with a group of 40 Spanish teenagers on a school trip to Romania. Completely bonkers scenes here as you can imagine!

Are you saying they don’t use VAR in the Paraguayan first division?!!!!

3 out of 4.
Was looking forward to seeing Ramos v Suarez but Pepe v Suarez will be even more comical.
