This WC has been excellent so far and the wonderful VAR has enriched the experience.
The human part of VAR still needs to catch up with the technology. By the Euro's we will wonder how we managed before.

Genuine question for @ForeverAddickted - still think Nacho has the best goal so far? I mean I think that opinion was defensible until today but Quaresma...I mean...

Some great goals - If I could have one for myself I'd take Nacho's, but we could have a good debate over it!

Do think its one of the best so far still - the passing build up from Spain combined with the fact the ball was in the air prior to Nacho running on to it is what makes it so good for me.

Both Lingard's goal and Quaresma's were sublime though and expect a few more like that before the Tournament is done

i.e. Nacho's ability to strike the ball so cleanly and level when it was still moving beforehand, the fact he's a Defender is a factor too, that sort of strike from that type of player should have gone for a throw in

Ronaldo v Spain for me. Add the pressure and context in as a factor.

He was trying to brush past the player to get to the ball and caught him mildly - no way a sending off! As for the penalty he went off the ground towards the defender before the defender touched him.

Brush past him by raising his forearm to the back of the blokes head? It's soft, and as usual the player made a meal of it, and in real life I think the yellow was the right decision. However, his actions were intentional and used a raised arm so in this day and age it should have been a red.

How much football will be played in the Portugal v Uruguay game? - will need a strong ref I feel.

For a team goal, Sterling's goal from the brilliant freekick on Sunday take some beating. Or it would do if he had scored it

Portugal v Iran was without a shadow of a doubt one of my favorite games of this World Cup so far.

I'm amazed they still employ Lawrenson.
Lawrenson and Hanson both became extremely lazy over the years, getting paid enormous sums, with apparently no one to challenge them. Hanson is now long gone and how Lawrenson survives is a mystery.

He kept asking the co commentator questions, proving that he does little if any research.
He's meant to be imparting his knowledge to us.
Unless I'm mistaken he even called one of the players Suarez.

Martin Keown is such a knob

"Messi missed a penalty you wouldnt see Ronaldo miss one"

Yes Martin Ronaldo has missed penalties before

    Martin Keown seems quiet now

I would suggest that penalties are not the strongest part of the best player of the 21st century's game, he has missed 6 now for Portugal. However despite this poor ratio he is still the 1st name on any teamsheet of the modern era.

How annoying is this BBC page? They show the groups but don't have a "P" column, as in Played!

This WC is just mad! Those two games tonight were simply brilliant in terms of excitement and controversy. Could be fun tomorrow too if we say goodbye to the Argies...

The BBC have not stopped banging on tonight with the VAR for Ronaldo's Red Card whilst ITV didn't even show the incident in their highlight show tonight. IMO it wasn't even a Yellow let alone a Red. Chris Sutton however (who I personally love on 5Live) did not stop going on about how Ronaldo should have been sent off and the Ref had bottled it.

Other than that havent really looked much like scoring

Peru, 0 goals and like Australia havent really looked like scoring.

    Austalia 0-0 Peru IMO tomorrow

Peru will be desperate to score a goal before they go home and Australia need to win to stand any chance, I think it could be high scoring, France vs Denmark, on the other hand, could be cagey as both teams will be content with a draw.

Yeah the Peru Australia game will be far more open than France Denmark. If anything the latter game is more likely to be a 0-0 result as it suits both teams.

On the opposite side of the coin, Australia must win and you only have to look at Morocco's performance tonight to know that a goalless team won't sit back in their last group game.

Denmark may be tempted to push for a winner in the second half if they hear that Australia are losing - at that point they have a risk free chance at winning the group. Otherwise, both teams will be content with kicking it around in the centre circle for 90 minutes.

France have previous with 0-0 results in the last group game as well. Against Ecuador in 2014 and against Switzerland in 2016.

Still not sure how Ronaldo got away with swinging his elbow into the bloke's face. Even less so after watching it again.

Glad they got the right decision on this one though... was amusing when it was saved. :-)

Is it deliberate? On that basis Walker should've been sent off against Tunisia.

Not even a yellow in my book.

Yes I believe it was deliberate hence why I thought a yellow was not sufficient. That is not a natural motion for your arm to make and to me, that shows that the intent was to strike the opposition player.
  • This is why I love the World Cup, all of the little boys have been sent home to bed, and it is up to the big boys to scrap it out for the main prize.

Portugal Vs Spain is one of those games, when it is hard to calculate whom you despise the most.

Is it the snarling, cynical and generally uncivilised Uruguayans or is it the preening, play-acting and generally un-loveable Portugese?

A further sub-plot involves the most combustible modern player -Luis Suarez - playing directly up against a centre back in Pepe, who is possibly the most nefarious character in the modern game.

Can see it really kicking off in this one, with the Portugese luck finally running out, and Uruguay squeezing through by the odd goal.

The more I watch that clip the more convinced I am it was not even a foul never mind a Yellow or red card.
