Is Taylor still training? Surely having him about the place, with his ‘i’m too good for this club’ attitude, can’t be good for team morale.
If I was Bowyer I'd tell him to piss off & not to turn up ever again. Let him sit at home for the next 3 months. Seriously, we haven't even got this season back up again & he's thinking about next season. He might find the new one doesnt start until September. Lots of time to drop jars of beetroot onto your foot, fall through a glass coffee table or cut your hand peeling an orange.
Shouldn’t get paid either. We’re skint enough as it is, struggling to pay the wages of proper hard workers like Tracey Leaburn, while he racks up a couple thousand a week for doing nothing.

Yes what a punishment!! That's probably exactly what he wants. Sit at home, rest, reduce your chances of catching Covid, sign a 20k a week contract in August (or whenever players can sign).
He's quite likely only turning up to training because if he doesn't then he'll be fined.

Just turning up for training to stay fit for his next team. His contract should be terminated and his butt kicked out the door.
Footballers are privileged individuals fulfilling dreams that 1000s of kids would love to and are paid well to do just that. No he might not be on 20k a week, but I'm sure he earns a lot more than most of us. He should honor his contract in what is a very unusual situation. Even if that means playing upto 30th June. I'm genuinely dissapointed with him, I think he has really let himself and us fans down
I'm sure that your disappointment will keep him awake at night. As a professional footballer he has a limited time to earn money. He is now at a crucial time in his career where he can obtain a contract that will secure his future. His affiliation with Charlton is less than two years. Ours, as fans, may be 10/20/30/40/50/60 years. Is it any wonder that he may see things differently? I really think that people should get some perspective. I, as a Charlton fan of many years, do not want to see us relegated, but I can fully understand why Lyle does not want to risk his future in these exceptional circumstances. If the future had been concluded under normal circumstances then I have no doubt that Lyle would have been busting a gut, as he had in every other game, to secure our survival.
Perspective? Oh right. Silly us for caring more about CAFC survival than some greedy twot's ego.
Not remotely surprised by this turn of events, it was an absolute dot on the card.
Sorry folks, but you all have to realize that we all LOVE Charlton Athletic, for many of us it is the love of our lives and we think of little else.
For Lyle Taylor and 99% of other players they don't care if it's Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic or the Rajasthan Royal Cavaliers, all they care about is how much they can earn and how quickly they can earn it.
Lyle Taylor is being honest about it, that's the difference.
Taylor is probably on around 4K per week at Charlton and is obviously getting offered 20k elsewhere on a three-year deal so he can basically make 3 million over that contract - taking home about 1.7 million post-tax (or whatever it is).
That's not David Beckham style cash but it's enough to set him and his family up for life at just 33 so I don't blame him in the slightest for not wanting to jeopardise that.
Do we really think Lyle is the only player in the EFL doing this? No chance! There'll be plenty of others in the same boat, except of course they will be far more subtle in the way they do it.
The bottom line is simple, football is full of whores and prostitutes it's just that some are more honest about it than others.

So it’s ok for Solly but not Taylor according to some. Both are doing what’s best for them , fact and of course Solly would have turned down contracts that trebled his wages because he luvs Charlton dontcha know
People comparing this situation with a normal end of season why ? Do they know that next season starts in 3 months time after the end of this or the transfer window closes In 4 months after the end of this season because that’s approximately what the gap would have expected to be . The financial situation is another unknown factor in there with income for clubs at risk as well.
Lyle has put himself first , shock horror .
Football isn’t this romantic honourable thing of passion for our club like we all wish it would be . Just ask Solly
Apologies if this has already been said as I'm too annoyed to read all the comments but just as well Patrick Bauer didn't decide to skip the play-offs last season, eh?
But if he hadn't have scored in the 94th minute would he just be seen as another Judas?
I don’t think so. Aribo also left after the play off final. I think a lot of fans thought he should have stayed longer but I don’t recall him being called a Judas. Both he and Bauer honoured their contracts. That is what most individuals with integrity and values do. People on here are not “whining” as I think someone on here stated. They are justifiably angry.
Curve ball... Could this be Bow playing games? Lyle has been seen in training, hull preparing for Charlton without Taylor would be a MASSIVE advantage, and it would be the Lyle Taylor show when he did play, which I'm sure he would love. Let's be honest, wouldn't be the first time Lee has lied about a players availability.
Parkinson was told not to play Jonjo so as to make sure the sale to Liverpool went through as we approached the end of the season , Jonjo wanted to play !

I've never quite got these mind games - any manager or coach in the professional game would prepare their team for all eventualities. Besides, I'm not sure Hull have the luxury of picking a different team if they play us with or without Taylor, and tactics can be changed in a heartbeat.

I think the point here is that whilst most (probably not 99%) don't care what club it is, the majority do care about the consequences of their actions:-
- Care about being a competitive sportsman who does the best for their club and teammates - Care that they do the right thing, which is to do everything you can to help your team win - Care that you don't let your friends, colleagues and teammmates down at a critical moment - Care that your legacy is not one of selfishness, but selflessness
Maybe I'm naive in thinking this - either way, if he is refusing to do what he can to support the club that has paid and supported him for two years and the thousands of fans that he has willingly courted, then I hope he goes down in Charlton history in the same bracket as Kevin Muscat, Matt Southall, Ron Noades, Simon Oleman, Mike Langley and Roland Duchatelet.
Just compare Taylor to Bauer and that’s all you need to do. One knows he is getting a big move, doesn’t want to jeopardise it, so refuses to play. The other knows he’s getting a big move, plays to the end, giving his all, honours his contract, then moves on.

Just because he is being honest, that makes it okay?
he is under contract!! He can’t pick and choose when he wants to play just because it suits him
im fairly certain that joe aribo knew the play off final would be his last for the club, did he refuse to play.
Taylor should play to the end of June. However, none of us should kid ourselves about the way that footballers treat clubs AND clubs treat footballers.
Players are given short term contracts. A promising youngster is sold, in the case of someone like Gomez, for relative pennies. They become heroes on the back of one or if you are lucky two seasons of football and villains if they leave on their terms.
Back in the 1970s we had at least 15 players who had played 200 plus games for us. When Solly goes we will have no one who has done so. In fact, we have one player, Pearce, who has played 100 matches for us. Where's the "Killer" Hales, "Flash" Flanagan, Phil Warman, Keith Peacock, Les Berry, Bob Curtis, Paddy Powell, Peter Reeves, Steve Gritt etc etc?
There is a minimal relationship between a young fan and a player. Ask a 10 year old fan next season who their favourite player is and I suspect that they will struggle to name one.
To the club, the player is a commodity. To the player, it's a job. That is the reality.
So people reckon that if this was a normal season and we were about to enter the League One play offs /Final Taylor would refuse to play .... except this season isn’t like a normal season apples and pears am I missing something here of course he’s being a selfish twunt but all this romantic bollox is just that he like all of them are out for themselves no amount of love from us will pay his bar bill or gambling debts in 5 years time just ask Super Clive Mendonca
I would be more inclined to give Solly more pelters than Taylor all day long.
Long time club captain, testimonial benefactor, coming to end of career, ‘one of our own’ etc
where is the vitriol aimed at him ?
Might start the anti Solly thread for balance.
I guess because we don't know the reason behind why Solly doesnt want to play whereas its pretty clear for the reasons behind Taylor's decision
Is Chris worried about passing anything on to his family - Is it because he knows he's not getting anothwr deal and having had injury concerns for years wants to protect himself seeing he's probably not had a bumper pay deal
Its certainly obvious he's not off to a club higher in the Championship than where we're currently sitting is it
Either way dont you think its best to reserve judgement until the full facts are out there before looking like a prima domma whinging bitch?
If one thing is clear out of all this its that it dont matter if you've given a club endless years of service or whether you've used the club as a stepping stone, the only time when its acceptable is when the fans no longer want you which is nothing short of hypocritical.
End of the day the players in question are simply taking advantage of an option that is available to them that is not available to everyday workers
Its not right that Footballers should be able to do this but in which case its the system that stinks rather than the actions of those taking advantage of it
People will complain about the obscene wages that Footballers get given yet not once will they stop and think that if the wage wasnt offered in the first place then they wouldnt be on that sort of money - Of course its never going to happen because if just one club were to take that stance then every other would take advantage of it

Taylor is the star man who can save us from relegation. If he gets injured, clubs would wait, he would play/work again.
where is solly going to end up, gillingham, A.F.C. Wimbledon? If he gets injured, these clubs won’t wait and will go elsewhere! If solly gets injured, he is unlikely to get a club again.
two different scenarios and two different markets.
solly had disappointed me but I understand why. Taylor is a con man like mouthall
Lyle Taylor rightfully getting hammered over social media, he was injured for 14 weeks. ( whilst on international duty ) - happy to be paid his weekly wages then lockdown for 2 months happy to be paid, now he’s asked to go back to doing his job is refusing and not for health reasons but for financial reasons - I understand it but it’s wrong and it’s a shame for it to end like this I think, I also dispute the quadrupling his wages would be 26k a week for a player that’s only played half a championship season as been injured - I hope he goes well but can see him fizzling out now, Ricky Holmes done the same ended up back in league 1 within a year.
Possibly Bowyer is trying to apply pressure here in an attempt to get him to change his mind. If he keeps him around training and he isn’t disruptive he may just want to play after all.
Comparing him and Williams is also wrong Williams has been on 15/20k a week for about 4/5 years and he’s mentioned before that his mental happiness comes first as he doesn’t need the money as such or for a better wording doesn’t drive him as much as his happiness

Why should they get paid? Just for being 'them'?
He's quite likely only turning up to training because if he doesn't then he'll be fined.
