I wonder how many people on here giving him abuse would stick with their current employer if they were as much of a basket case as we are and a competitor came along waving a salary four times what they were on at said basket case.

Fuck off about 'loyalty' - what's he got to be loyal about? Even if he was a Charlton fan (which he's not), why should he turn down the opportunity to get out of the shit show we are at the moment - especially in the current pandemic climate - and better his situation?

There's a lot of people who somehow think that football should be different to any other business. It. That's one of the reasons it's so fucked. It shouldn't be different to any other business.

Out in the real world, employers have no loyalty to employers any more - that disappeared in the 80s with the bowler hat, carriage clock and handshake after 40 years. Footballers might appear to have the upper hand in the employer/employee relationship, but that isn't as clear cut as it looks - they're commodities to be traded around. Yes their wages are obscene, but so are failing CEOs who fuck companies over then disappear, only to turn up somewhere else six months later after a nice paid-for holiday at the expense of the shareholders of the company they just gutted, or asset strippers who bug a company and sell off its crown jewels, strip it bare then leave it to fail after creaming the profits.

    It's not football that's broken - it's society!
Absolutely agree with you, no one here would turn down a job that would secure their financial future ,for loyalty to their current employer let alone a basket case one,
Then resign your position & join your new company. What you dont do is come into work & sit at your desk with your feet up, air pods in doing fuck all. At worst a company  would put you on "gardening "leave.

Football is slightly different as you have a "timed" contract & so you can't just walk out & join another club whenever you want. So you have to work the years/ weeks/days left & then leave. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • he doesn't seem to be getting much sympathy in the wider media over this
  • I wonder how many people on here giving him abuse would stick with their current employer if they were as much of a basket case as we are and a competitor came along waving a salary four times what they were on at said basket case.

Professional football only exists because of us, the fans.
Without us, the likes of Lyle Taylor, rather than turning up for a few hours a day, to run around, kicking a ball around, doing something they enjoy doing, would have to be doing the 9 - 5, like the majority of us.
We stick around, only because of our need to idolise our heroes, legends, who shape the history of our club.
Our heroes now are all in the past, thanks to actions like this from Taylor.
I thought Covid might have brought back a sense of reality, and an appreciation by professional footballers of just how fortunate they are.
Kill the admiration of the fans, the 9 year old kicking the ball around in the garden with his dad, the guy who has been going home and away for 50 odd year's, people like Seb, and you are killing the goose that layed the golden egg.
What is happening to football cannot continue for much longer, people like me are not going to bother flying half the way around the world every year to support their team, when the Lyle Taylor's of this world cannot be arsed to pull on the shirt just a few more times to help us out in a crisis

He's his own man as they say but he's getting a lot of negative press; think theere are articles in various media outlets
Doesn’t matter as he knows that’ll make little difference to many of the clubs interested in signing him.
All over talksport all morning, overall consensus is he’s in the wrong with a few playing devils advocate for the sake of debate
  • listen to Darren Gough talk about it, he said (and I quote) 'he's now got the chance to join a proper team'

    pr*ck
    perhaps he means Barnsley.
  • Is it confirmed whether he is in training or not,  presumably he will be training with the kids if so.

Really hope one of the young lads doesn't go through him and scupper his life changing move...

  • Won’t deny I am really disappointed With Taylor’s decision but like a number of others  not really surprised.

He’s made up his mind and he has to live with that choice, I am sure he will and Should he change his mind And play for us even just for 3 games I will be shouting my support at the tv when he plays as I would with anyone lucky enough to wear the coveted Charlton shirt.

One of the main things that the Covid19 situation has highlighted about football is the total disrespect for the fans.

Football is for the fans? If that was the case they wouldn’t play until we can attend games but as they can keep the majority of the armchair fans and the TV companies happy that’s more important.
A presenter on TalkSPORT said well most football fans watch the games on TV and don’t go to games anyway.
People can disagree with me but football fans go to games, people that Watch on TV Follow football. I haven’t really missed it over the last two months Which has surprised me  but if and when the championship starts seeing us play at the Valley And not being Able To be there is going to be painful for myself and many other Valiant fans.
We need to get behind the who ever plays for us over the last 9 games and hope they can salvage this season.

My biggest heartbreak from this is that there's no way Naby's assist vs Forest will be voted our goal of the season now, because Taylor scored it #iwillstillvoteforit #unlesstheresabetteroneinthelast9games
Conor’s goal vs Derby was our best goal this season
Naby’s goal against QPR was my favourite (not sure how to define the “best” goal really).

I’ve had this conversation loads of times except I’ve always said your supporters go to games and fans watch you on tv.

i agree with the principle of what you’re saying though

Occasionally I've had the misfortune to listen to the Durham / Gough home time show on Talkshite.
Basically it seems they invent some 'hot topics' which no one is actually talking about, then sensationalise these non-stories and take a few calls from some of the most inarticulate people imaginable. Great show lads.
  • Amazed he still has on his Twitter that he is a professional footballer with Charlton Athletic - perhaps he should change it to ‘professional footballer actively looking for a new club’
  • I wonder how many people on here giving him abuse would stick with their current employer if they were as much of a basket case as we are and a competitor came along waving a salary four times what they were on at said basket case.

Football IS different to most other businesses.
    It is unique.
How often do you get 15,000 people turning up to watch you work?
  • Gough has always been a prize wanker disguised as a 'character'. Like some other people I could name. I mean, stop looking at me this is the Lyle Taylor thread

Yes, I have as well, got various ‘fans’ I work with and I have seen their teams more than them. They always have an excuse for not going, mainly can’t get to Anfield/ Old Trafford/Emirates etc
You Support your local team was my Grandad and Dads mantra, I have done so since I was four or five, I keep asking myself And my brother why did it have to be Charlton and Kent!

Surprised he hasn’t said anything yet either formally or through social media.
Probably because he's looking like a right melt... The press and pundits are joining in and his decision is looking like the stupidist decision ever! If I was a fan of his 'new club' I'd be a little uncertain about his integrity!

  • I just hope the fans at his new club don't start to worship him like we did. They will be in for a letdown.

It does make his lauded Zoom interview where he was all ‘honest John’ about Southall, and bleeding heart for fans, look a little like a getting in first PR move, knowing he was going to sit out the last month of his deal.

Mccoist not impressed with his attitude; might take Rangers off the list. Maybe they won't want someone who will have that attitude with them sometime?
