  • Didn’t we try and loan Albie out a couple of times in the past and there were no real takers?

I don't think you'll see much difference in quality between Morgan, Dempsey and Henry very soon.
Henry has always been suggested to be the best of the three.

Once in Summer 2019, Bowyer said nobody came in for him at League 1 or League 2 level.

Was he simply listed though or did we try to get him placed?
  • I thought he was beginning to get into the game yesterday just before he came off. Obviously against that level of opposition he should have been in the game a lot earlier.
  • Shame about Morgan but he needs a huge improvement to be worthy of getting a new contract. Had so many opportunities, but can’t say for certain he has improved since the play off semi final against Doncaster. Compared to Davidson who is getting better every time I see him. Both out of contract in the summer and only one I would be thinking about offering a new deal too.

Morgan had another year over Davison. And Davison was no better than Morgan yesterday

Yesterday was an opportunity for all of the players knocking on the door to knock on it a bit louder. Some seem to have done so louder than others and Morgan seems to be one of the others. Tuesday night offers another opportunity I suppose.

Davison was head and shoulders better than Morgan yesterday which wasn't hard.
  • Are back in the Pizza on tuesday?

What has been a big deal since JJ took over is that the midfield has the right balance. With an injury or suspension, who will be the best bet to maintain at least some of that balance. Morgan has to show it is him and he has not really done that this season. It isn't for us to say whether he can or not. But we can say, he hasn't yet and ultimately the ball is still in his court.

That’s the thing with strikers, they can get away with having a bad game if they stick the ball in the net.

I know what Bowyer said but most National League clubs would take a League 1 player on loan at  21 years old who has played 80 odd games. The wages can be split 50/50.

Last season it looked like Albie Morgan was improving and he had 3 good games in a row. Then he panicked and took a wild lash at the ball away at Shrewsbury and the ball went up to the sky before spinning backwards and Gunter then fouled their forward and the shrews scored the penalty to grab a draw. Bowyer then dropped him and he has struggled in most games since.

I thought Morgan had a dozen or so matches to prove he could be a decent League 1 player at the beginning of this season because of JFC and Gilbey being out and Clare and Dobson also trying to find their feet at a new club.

Unfortunately his game is too brittle and he hasn't grabbed his opportunities.

He may have to go on Loan to a National League team to find some consistency. It's looking unlikely he can fit in at Cafc on our Journey.
I think on reflection expecting a group of young players to come in and run our midfield was complete madness. One a game or even two if our others were fit/good enough would have been fine but all three?

Clare, Dobson, Morgan could have been a decent midfield in future, but none are consistent enough to be considered ready to run a promotion chasing OR relegation battling midfield together.

As has been seen Dobson has had a few stormers now, Clare has done okay and then Albie, the youngest has begun to fall away.
  • I don't think it's fair to say Morgan isn't bothered enough. From a report last December it is apparent that he lost 10 Kg during lockdown in a bid to up his mobility around the pitch.  He was also quoted as saying, "I’ve worked on quite a few things – my weight, my fitness, my tracking back and my defensive positioning. I know I’m not perfect in any of them, but I’ve come a long way".

Steve Avory speaking last May to the SLP said that Morgan has a genuine love of the game.  He always wanted the ball at his feet from the age of 8 when he joined the academy.  Avory said Morgan was a bit of a Maverick in his younger days and even encouraged it to some extent, but this came at a cost to the out of possession part of his game.  During the interview Avory made reference to disappointment.  Disappointment is unavoidable in football and unfortunately, it’s been a persistent presence in Morgan’s fledgling professional career.

Who knows if Morgan can make it.  Will something suddenly click and everything fall into place?  I don't think that is going to happen here any time soon.  I think it's time for a loan spell / move to a club where he could get regular first team football.  He has ability, but at 21 he needs to make it count.

I thought Morgan's best game in a Charlton shirt was the Lincoln home game last season when JFC did his ACL.  He also played will against Hull and in the wide position against Posh.  I thought he had finally got it then.

This bit might not be true but it doesn't feel Morgan never gets on the bench, unless we only have 18 fit players.  And then rarely gets on.  I don't know what the stats say but he seems to either start or not play at all.  Which is strange for a young player, especially a "flair" one, if that's what he is.  I would be intrested to see what the actual numbers are.

Both Akins and Bowyer seemed to pick him as some sort of hail Mary after leaving him out, then leaving him out again.

I’d swap him for Brendan Wiredu all day long, released the wrong player by the looks of things.
What’s wiredu Done to warrant a place in a league 1 squad?
Currently the best player in league 2, Colchester fans are raving about him and fully expect him to be their POTY and snapped up by a Championship team. What’s Albie done to warrant a place in the team? Struggling against non-league opposition, Wiredu is making strides, be it in the league below but will be playing at higher level soon, where else Albie will be struggling to find a club to take him on loan in non-league.
  • Morgan is as fit as a fiddle after the summer, heard it from a young coach at Sparrows lane and from a friend of his family and Adkins said it as well.

Will be interesting to see if Johnnie and Jason who have seen him over many years can see a role for him at Cafc. His poor execution of shooting means he can never be the attacking midfielder or the defensive midfielder as does have problems in that role.

We have better players out wide so Central midfield would be his role and he can cover the ground but is just too inconsistent.

The choice was between George Lapsie and Albie Morgan and Bowyer felt George was a water carrier and Albie had more about his game.

And scored, which he is paid to do.

If I forward doesn’t get a kick for 70 mins then ticks one away, it’s still a good afternoons work
  • Morgan has had nearly 90 games and is in his 4th season in and around the squad.

time to cut our losses and move him on. I wonder how much better vennings would be if he had the game time Morgan has been given

morgan is a modern day Paul bacon. He isn’t going to make it

I've heard that Havant and Waterlooville are short of players.. B)
  • Still think the Jonny Williams comparison is fair.

A creative player who doesn't score enough and doesn't assist enough, he's not great defensively and doesn't have 90 minute engine. He doesn't have a stand out trait that makes up for the lack in other areas - even Williams knew how to draw a foul which gave him something.

He's currently a non luxurious luxury player.

Some regular game time away would probably be best.

Williams, for all his negatives, is really really good at something.  Morgan isn't.

If you want to you could build a team round Williams's strength and hide his weakness.  Ignoring the fact he would get injured and you would have to rip it up anyway.

JW has a clear best, in fact only, position.  I have no idea what Albie's best position is, only what it's clearly not.

One of the only ones who keeps going, even when we're rubbish.  I wish there was more payoff in terms of goals and assists from Albie.  But if JJ keeps on playing an extra man in midfield he'd be on the bench for me.

He can cover multiple areas in midfield and full back.  When the other players are putting a proper shift in, Albie's energy in finding space is brilliant.  Plus his defensive covering is superb.  Why are we writing him off after all our midfield has been worse than L1 relegation?  Which other midfielder deserves such opprobium?  All of them.  I will judge him again when he's back in a confident side.

Granted Leko, Lee, Gilbey and Jaiyesimi are a bit ahead of him at the moment.  But when his confidence comes back up, I would have him straight back on the bench at the least.

    Are you his dad.
He is nowhere near as good as you paint him to be.
Also he is showing very little sign of improving.
    Or his agent!!!
  • The only time I’ve seen him play really well was in the U23s. Very slick short passes. Created openings.

Nowadays he doesn’t ever do the easiest pass to a wide player. Holds on too long and passes to a player who is facing the wrong way or closely marked.

I think we have a buy-back clause for Wiredu so if he's that good I hope he's coming back here rather than anywhere else.

Karlan's penny drop happened towards the end of his Crawley loan. He was 20/21 at the start of the season alongside Taylor... Karlan had pace, but his finishing was awful to that point.

A stint in League two in January could be just the ticket needed for Albie's penny to drop. If it doesn't occur or he doesn't get more positively consistent then sadly I see no way back for him, unless he rebuilds elsewhere.

Since 2018, he's played 67 first team games for us, assisted 9 and scored just the one. Would he have been used that much if there was no chance of him making it? Those closer to the game, with a focus on success have believed he could do it, now it's up to him to show them the same attitude he did last summer to come back fitter, faster and stronger.

He's got to be at last chance saloon so maintaining a high level consistently will be the make or break for him.

Possibly more likely since Bow moved on from what I heard regarding disagreements with his agent.
