Cars don't have to be going that quick to absolutely destroy the front end.

I've got two minds about this, first is if this was some sort of terrorist act of defiance and this is the calibre of extremist we are up against then the terrorists and extremists are shit.

My other mind is this was an uber driver who fell asleep at the wheel and thankfully nobody has been seriously harmed

Uber and terrorism = same thing in my world
    They are cheaper though.

Anyway, Im safe(ish), but I am in Tonbridge, so anything could happen.

Well if it is "terrorist related", whatever that might mean, then the police are to be commended for arresting the guy rather than killing him. They will obtain a wealth of evidence as a result. And if it turns out to be something else, and any cabbie would tell you the "Uber driver asleep" is highly credible, then it's also reason to commend the police.

We should just be glad there weren't more injuries.

I don’t like the “stay safe” thing either but keeping your wits about you is not just for when crossing the road. I really don’t believe that anyone who uses the tube in London hasn’t at some point given even the slightest thought to terrorism.

Well indeed, I used to "give it some thought" throughout my commuting to Paddington days by train and tube. Couldn't really not do so, when there were no litter bins on the stations in case some deranged Irish "freedom fighter" had placed his latest contraption in it. What I mainly thought is that they are pondlife who have been given a cause beyond petty and violent crime, by political extremists, some of them based in the USA. Turned out to be on the money.

Whatever the cause is, at least there's no serious injuries and it sounds like the police action was impressively quick.

Odd timing to do this when parliament is in recess.

Something which I find quite interesting (if you'll pardon the crass phrasing) is that idea that terrorism is "Performative Violence."

I don't have anything to add to that really. I'm just glad that it sounds like the impact was relatively minor (touch wood).

Looks like he side swiped the cyclists and deliberately aimed at the two coppers on 'guard' outside an entrance to HOP

    ...

Police now treating this as a terrorist incident.
    Sky news.

Time for hysterical overreaction - has Trump waded in yet? Maybe Boris has something to offer?
No one is being hysterical or overreacting.

Many of us work and/ or live in London as do our families and friends. I work not a million miles away.

Agree that it can get exploited for political gain but if people are driving cars into the general public on British streets in pursuit of a warped ideology then it will rightly get a robust reaction.

In fact the reaction to this is very considered and you don't see masses in the steet burning flags and ranting for vengeance.

Unlike in some parts of society for example when mere cartoons provoke such OTT reactions.

Funnily enough I rarely see the people whose first thought is to berate the social media reaction to these kinds of events criticise flag burning or poppy burning as "hysterical overreaction".

    Strange that.
There is often hysterical overreaction on social media and in the news - that's the nature of the beast and the way it operates.

This attempt doesn't seem the work of a well organised and well drilled terrorist. It's a bungled fuckjob, and if it's going to be the ongoing face of global Islamic terrorists, I won't be fearing the day of Reckoning
Or was it a test? See how well the barrier actually does against a car?

Car didn't work, will likely be a van in the next 3-6 months.

The mere thought that people actually think like that is scary.

I'm assuming the police/intelligence agencies will have some handle on it.

I meant a test by the terrorists, just to clarify.

I think it is terrifying that we're having to start thinking like that in order to understand how to make potential targets safer.

I realise that. Wasn’t suggesting it’s your thinking that scares me. Not on this anyway ;0)

Need to let the police and intelligence agencies get on with their job. If people spend too much time worrying then the terrorists win.

A big f*** you to all those intent on creating divisions within this country!

Thankfully we have teams of specialists that do these things for us.

The terrorist scumbag isn't currently co-operating (according to the Met).

(I'm not bothering to wait, I know what he is and why he did what he did).

Bizarre to try and drive a car where barriers have been built to specifically stop these kind of attacks. Not exactly a terrorist mastermind this chap is he

Was thinking that myself, also can't imagine that 7.30am round there is the prime time or place to mow down lots of pedestrians.

Just seen this. Can guarantee he'll be known to the authorities, be that ours or someone else's.

But don't worry, some Wigan and Villa fans are being monitored 24/7 for their handbags at the weekend. Sigh.

Just relieved there were no fatalities.
