Watched on iFollow. Very good game from two sides that played a better standard of football than most League One sides can achieve. Barnsley were no mugs, and their midfield trio of Moncur, Mowatt and Potts looked very slick, especially in the first half. So a win, plus a clean sheet are very notable achievements.
I'm not a great fan of Djiksteel at right back but credit where it's due, today he was tremendous and played a full part in a very rugged defensive display that deserved the clean sheet. In midfield, Aribo was full of tricks, interceptions and running and Ward and Cullen played well too. I was disappointed with Reeves who didn't contribute enough either offensively or defensively. Up front, Taylor and Grant are a potent combination and although it was Karlan that bagged the two goals, Lyle was again an all action menace throughout. I was so disappointed that he didn't take his easy chance near the end, because he so, so deserved one.
So, three points in the bag. On to Tuesday and let's give Oxford a pasting that will put the skids under that posing charlatan of a manager they've got.
And Fuck Off Roland. I want to come back and watch my team in the flesh for the rest of my days.
Taking the piss Charlton style, give Barnsley another corner... how many corners did we give them and if we gave them the same amount of corners again could they score from one ?
Felt having Bielik back today gave us a lot more stability at the back. As much as I think Sarr is good with the ball, he didn’t fill me with confidence when he came on for those final few minutes. For the balance of the back for, I see a difference when he plays at the back
Bowyer got it pretty much spot on today. he got things to a place where we played a better team but nevertheless had enough resources to win.
We maximised our strengths, minimised our weaknesses, and the work rate the players put in, exemplified by Cullen who must already have been feeling it after his international excursions, was exceptional. Mind you, Bowyer had to introduce Sarr for Belik and that turned out to be a proper tease.
Barnsley were good up to a point, but we worked so hard in negating their threat that they reached that point generally on the edge of our area, but we massed loads of bodies back most of the time. Barnsley worried us all afternoon, but in truth didn't really threaten.
Actually we might have had more goals. When their keeper was out of his goal that was a blinding controlled long range hit from Taylor that the defender did well to stop, Taylor also missed a sitter, very un Taylor like, and Reeves had two successive corners, the first seemed to go in but the very iffy ref disallowed for something.
So for all the Barnsley huff and puff, slick interplay, strength and nous, the Charlton attitude prevailed over all that, and we still have enough in us to hurt any side, and hurt Barnsley we did. Feels good after that Coventry result that's for sure.
Clean sheet for Steer, and he played pretty well, had authority in the box and distributed well, nice save from their free kick too, Djiksteel was very good, he was strong, committed and he defended well especially at crucial moments. Nice to see Belik back, and Pearce and Solly were their usual very good selves.
In midfield Aribo was the Artful Dodger in the first half, picking Barnsley pockets all over the place, not as well sustained in the second half when he played deeper, but he was fine. Cullen was great actually, terrier like in his competitiveness at times, especially when needed in the second half. Reeves and Ward were OK but only in flashes. Fosu didn't really get much ball when introduced, but Lapslie gave his usual very good take for granted contribution.
Hard to be very critical of Taylor for that miss, because as usual he got better as the game went on, and his presence and leadership qualities up front are an essential part of this current team.
I have often criticised Karlan for not using his left foot, my advice has obviously filtered through for his first goal. As I sit here remembering I am not sure who played Karlan in, but it was a fantastic spot and pass, and Karlan had plenty of time to panic, but he didn't. Great opening goal.
Karlan's second, a scoop in, came almost exactly at the same time in the second half as his first goal and we had a cushion to build the rest of the game around. No way would we have sustained a 1-0 in my opinion.
I did not expect a win today, but it certainly feels great this evening.
Well done to the team for an excellent performance, and well done to Bowyer for getting the team and tactics right. We really exploited the lack of pace in their defence with the early ball, while the back 4 looked really solid, with Bielik excellent and Djiksteel having his best game for ages at RB. Lyle worked so hard, he gave their defence so many problems, a massive shame he missed that sitter
I hope Bielik will be ok for Tuesday, as Sarr had a bit of a nightmare when he came on,
A strange game I thought. Barnsley have the potential to win this league. I saw them beat Luton 3-2 last week, when they could easily have scored 6. They won at Peterboro 0-4 a couple of weeks ago. Peterboro's only defeat this season (I think). Barnsley dominated possession looked the better team (for me) and yet created little. Charlton run out 2-0 winners and Taylor missed a sitter near the end to make it 3. Strange game. Well done Charlton. Great win.
PS I thought perhaps a big difference was having the solid Bielik at the back in place of Sarr. Also, a very well done to Steer, who saved every shot and caught or punched clear every cross.

I’d play Pratley at centre half against Oxford if Bielik is our
Great win against a Barnsley side that looked the best team we have played this season. Yet despite all their quick fast passing our defending was excellent and we restricted them mainly to long shots and wild crosses. Was worried before we scored as they were outnumbering us in midfield and I thought LB would have to change our formation. However the benefit of the diamond showed for the goal allowing Ward to be higher up the pitch and in space to be able to get the ball and then play a sublime pass to Karlan. Great finish then. In fact our strikers and in particular Karlan's pace caused them problems all afternoon as we got a very deserved win. But my, how hard did we have to work for it.

This. Thought Barnsley were the better team - much more composed and their teamwork was good - without creating much. We played very much on the break as we didnt create very much from open play. Thought Bielik was good - broke up most at the back. Grant also - first goal was quality.
I have to admit I’ve long since lost any enthusiasm for midweek games but after today’s performance the thought of Tuesday nights encounter against a team whose Manager’s tactics we consider to be a bit one-dimensional and inflexible is definitely getting the old juices going...
Great win, boys done great. We have a very good strike force with them two, really enjoying watching them.
The disallowed goal from the corner was well over the line yet the Lino wasn’t going to give it. No idea if the foul the ref gave for was justified or not.
Aribo had another strong game for me and Bielik improves our defence when there.
What a day. Really enjoyed that. A performance that had Lee Bowyer written all over it. Don't agree that Barnsley were the better side. How many times did they really test Steer (who was literally faultless). First few minutes I was worried but after that excellent first goal they were scared shitless of Grant and Taylor.
Decent crowd too, and more than decent support. Whisper it softly...I felt like I was getting my Charlton back. One last heave to get the old bastard out.

How the fck Sky app said barnsley had 17 shots is beyond me.
Great performance.
Cov and Scunthorpe games were a pain but kept faith another day we'd have beat them both 4 nil and be 2nd now.
Awful referee yet again who tried to ruin the flow of the game. Still not clear about the disallowed goal?
Dijksteel played much better today but both him and Solly suffer from a lack of cover. We still struggle to retain possession.
Barnsley look a decent side to me so to score 2 goals and keep a clean sheet is a good days work.
Whatever our faults are we're entertaining to watch and play some good attacking football at times. We looked less fragile with Bielik starting.
Not Steer's biggest fan but I thought he played well today and seemed a lot quicker with his disteibution. Pleased for him.
Roll on Tuesday.

Great game though and other than their free kick there wasn’t much from them and we could have had a couple more.
Loved it

Suspected them to put in a good fight (like AFC Wimbledon when they won the Play-Offs) but not this week
Dont know if this years Shrewsbury will be Accrington or Doncaster though

We have a real opportunity to kick on with the next 2 games this week and cement a position in the top 6
Hope we get a better than normal midweek crowd on Tuesday with half term and Robinson’s return, the players deserve it
Decent crowd too, and more than decent support. Whisper it softly...I felt like I was getting my Charlton back. One last heave to get the old bastard out.
