Canada v South Africa was the third ever World Cup knockout match not involving a European or South American team
With the new format they will be common soon. Australia Vs Egypt still to come in this round, and Canada Vs Morocco now confirmed for the last 16.

Justin Kluivert's missed penalty against Morocco was 26 years to the day after his father Patrick missed a penalty against Italy at the 2000 Euros. Both hit the left hand post.

England's win over DR Congo is the first time in a World Cup since the World Cup Final in 1966 where they have conceded the first goal and come back to win.

Only one country has won the World Cup without later winning it at least once more. This wasn't true from 1998 to 2026 but order has now been restored.

(This is only true if you accept the German view that modern-day Germany is the same country as West Germany).

Lamine Yamal's DAD was born in 1992.

  • Declan Rice's goal v France in the 3rd place play off, was the first goal scored in this World Cup by a player from the Premier League

That’s a football fact that doesn’t sound true because it isn’t.

Haaland on his own scored 7.
That Chelsea prick scored against us in the semi.
I’m pretty sure there was a lot of talk about a bunch of Sunderland players who scored in the group stages too. Also, Merino got a couple as did Havertz.

    So really not true. 😂

I think the fact should state it was the first by an England player at the WC, from the Premier League.

My memory isn’t so good nowadays, but I think I remember some England player or other scoring in a game before the third place play off match?

Rashford is contracted to Man U.

This is the worst 'fact' in this thread's history

This was also matched by France.

    Mbappe 10 goals
    Dembele 6 goals.

I presume your point is the fact that Bellingham / Kane already had six goals, whilst Dembele only had five goals pre- the 3rd Place Game

Nah the point is that it said England were the first.

    that can’t be matched

Having two players score more than 5 goals was matched, obviously they were not the first if they matched it.

Half (actually 49%) of all players who have played in the Premier League have shared a pitch - either playing with or against - James Milner.
