  • None of the 2006, 2010 or 2014 winners of the World Cup have won a knockout game since their win.

France ruined it for everyone really by beating Poland.
Well none of them got to the Knockouts ;)

Spain did, 4 years ago and this year.

  • Hans-Jorg Butt
    Goalkeeper.

Scored 3 goals in the Champions League……for 3 different teams.

    …..all 3 against Juventus.

was the first thing I thought of when I read that

    gotta love a bottom reference
  • Croatia haven't won a knockout match at a World Cup in nornal time for 24 years.
    Still haven't....
  • here's one after tonight;

the FIFA world number one ranked team has never won the world cup tournament.
  • Wrexham co=owner Ryan Reynolds is from Vancouver, his father was in the RCMP, the Mounties, his brother is also a Mountie .. he's not a lumberjack, and he's OK

That where the French are lucky, they don’t have a word for deja vu
  • With Kolo Muani scoring for France today it means that all shirt numbers (1-26) have found the back of the net @ this World Cup, that does include own goals.

  • Quite a famous stat that Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have both had players in every World Cup Final since 1982.

Following the quarter finals that stat is now confirmed to continue this year.
Are they definite starters?  Is the stat about okayers who played or just in the squad?

Who have Bayern got, Coman, Upamecano?  Didn't play tonight.
  • And Inter - Martinez?
  • Just in the squad.
Bayern Munich have Upamecano, Hernandez, Coman and Pavard in the France squad
Inter have Martinez in the Argentina squad.

Should Orient beat Stevenage on Tuesday then Bet365, under their concession for teams leading by 10 points, will settle them as League 2 winners - the really unusual bit is that Orient will only have played 22 of the 46 match season. Their lead is down to the fact that, following the defeat of Stevenage, they would have won 17 of their 22 matches and would be on target, pro rata, to reach a massive 113 points!

This run is almost certainly not sustainable and what it does mean is that should Orient have a melt down in the second half of the season and not land the title then Bet365 will be forced to pay out twice. There would be, after all, still 72 points to play for. Which would be really fortunate should you have happened to have backed Orient but even more so should you have backed both of the teams in question - especially in multiples.
  • Blackburn have gone half a season without drawing a League game. They haven't actually drawn one in their last 28 matches and the last one was more than eight months ago on 9th April.

Martinez on for Argentina so Bayern and Inter both had players play now.

  • Simon Church scored for Charlton against a World-Cup-winning 'keeper
  • This is an almost true, but thought this was the best place for it.  Messi almost out scored Sunderland in the 2010s...

  • Argentina have won more matches in the past 23 days than Charlton have won all season.
  • Ryan Inniss, Charlie Kirk and Conor McGrandles are all paid to play football
  • Gillingham are bottom of the League 2 having conceded 24 goals in 20 games. That, in itself, isn't the reason for their position especially when one considers that Mansfield. in 5th place, have let in 3 more goals at 27.

The problem is that Gillingham have scored 6 (SIX) goals all season. We moan about our lack of fire power but we have 31 goals by comparison.

Sounds like they need a nippy striker (c)
  • not sure if it's been mentioned as seen it about a fair bit - no team has ever had a penalty in every phase of the world cup (groups stage and then every knockout stage including the final) until Argentina this year.

I hadn't realised that Gillingham are in the last 16 of the EFL - they've hardly been prolific there either in scoring three goals in their three games to date (albeit infinitely better than they have been in the League) and have won two of those matches on penalties

    Charlton win another penalty shootout.
