Shamrock Rovers defender Pico Lopes helped Cape Verde to qualify for their first World Cup.

Lopes qualifies to play for Cape Verde through his father, and was first called up back in 2019 after receiving a message on LinkedIn from the team’s coach at the time, Rui Aguas.

Lopes had ignored a previous message from Aguas sent a year earlier because it was in Portuguese and he did not understand it.

That season he only got 8 goals in the first 8 games. Pretty poor from him.
  • If Ange Postecoglu flew from London to Melbourne, whilst on the plane he'd have enough to time to watch every minute of every game he managed at Nottingham Forest, and all 3 Crocodile Dundee films.

Charlton Athletic, Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle United

The only teams to win by at least a three goal margin and keep a clean sheet at Portman Road against a Kieran McKenna Ipswich side - Tonight was Ipswich's worst home defeat in the EFL since they lost 2-5 against Bolton in 2021, Hull City in 2020 were the last team to win 3-0 at Portman Road

Jamie Cureton has just played his first game at step 6 of the non-league pyramid, i.e. 6 promotions below the football league, at the age of 50. He had already played in all 4 league divisions and at all 5 higher levels in non-league, and had scored at least once at each level. So he's currently played in all of the top 10 tiers of English football, and scored in the top 9.
  • Charlton could equal the most amount of league and playoff wins in a calendar year in October.

  • I always thought that Carlisle was the furthest trip southern clubs could make in football.  However, Truro are set to break the record today as they travel to Gateshead.

I bet there's a few Cousin Jacks having a great night out in Newcastle tonight.

  • Southampton have played 50 league games since the play-off final in May 2024.

    They've won just four.

Nice to see a player loving the game.  Incredible roll of clubs he's played for:

  • Kings Park Rangers sound like a QPR tribute band.
  • Man United are 4th in the Premier League.
If they beat Forest next Saturday, they'll go second.

Which probably says more about the lack of 3pm Saturday games than anything.

  • James Milner assisted the goal by Charalampos Kostoulas this weekend against Manchester United. It is the first time in Premier League history that a player provided an assist to someone who wasn't born when they made their Premier League debut.

It also says that if a side wins four on the bounce, as United will have done if they do beat Forest, then they will launch themselves up the PL table. United had just 7 points from their first 6 matches whereas Liverpool had 15.

Amara Nallo has made 2 sub appearances and a total of 16 minutes of senior football for Liverpool and has 2 red cards.
  • Excluding penalty shoot-outs, Joe Hart only ever faced one penalty in 75 caps for England, which he saved.

A joyous time to be a season ticket holder at Carrow Road. Norwich have lost all of their opening seven home games. Their previous longest losing home run at the start of the season was three.

My Norwich supporting season ticket holding ex boss reckons they will go down. Says they have a good keeper, one good CH, a good full back and Josh Sargent. The rest are league one standard. 50m spent on a load of rubbish.
