  • 2k plus. It's a play-off semi final. Might be another 10/15 years before we get one again.
  • 3-0 is the new 2-1 so they have every chance - if only on pens. They only need to score one and hold on.

    But.

If they do not have any faith that their team can take us - they are probably right.
  • Considering it’s a play off semi , it really is pitiful the take up of tickets from Doncaster and I’m not buying the “ It’s Friday night , and it’s on the TV “ Nonsense.
     It’s really poor.
Really ? They were in the Conference from 1998-2003 & average 8,000.

Be totally honest. If we were 2-1 down and were playing Doncaster on a Friday night, how many do you think we would take?
We would have sold most of our tickets before the first leg . The result is irrelevant. As for Friday . What is about this Friday thing ?

I’ll take that as a back handed compliment 😉

Maybe but I doubt it.  We've been in 3 in the last nine years.
  • It’s Doncaster. They are not a big club. Did you expect them to sell out the Jimmy Seed or something?

It’s obviously not a popular view but I still think it’s poor .

    Yep

Not comfortable with the Donny knocking to be honest. Seems to me a cracking little club with grounded supporters who’ve been through the mill over the years.

Not every club is a footballing giant like Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic
    Sorry dad 😉

    Yep
That would be getting on for half of the home crowd.
  • Based on the past few days I reckon we’d have sold out if it was the other way around
  • Leeds Utd very loud tonight we need to do this on Friday.
    Worked well for them.......

As I may have said before, crowds don't win games.

Not a play off semi final and not on a weekend but I get your point .

  • I am happy for all of you that get to go. I think we are gonna win. And it should be a blast to attend.
Napa when are you coming over for one of these big games Mate?

They don't come around often, and it cannot be grape picking time yet in sunny Napa valley. What are doing on May 26th?

Oh and just bring me a jeroboam of your 2012 Cab - Sauv'n will you?

No need at all to slate Doncaster, and no justification either.

Pretty sure I was one of only 1,600 or so to see Dennis in the last minute at Selhurst.
If we can't sell out a local derby in the Premier League against a bitter local rival on a Sunday afternoon, we've got a cheek knocking a smaller club for not selling out a third division match 200 miles away on a Friday night.

Our support for these two play off games is magnificent, but sadly history says the exception rather than the rule.
What was the allocation at Selhurst for that match? From recollection the adult price was £35 for a televised game and Charlton wouldn’t commit to paying for the extra tickets.
  • Still think crowds have involvement though as can make players edgy / nervous and prone to making mistakes (both your own players and the opposition)

Never forget my one trip up to Newcastle; drew 1-1 with Rommedahl scoring an equaliser, we werent the best team till we scored but how we didnt come back with three points I'll never know because the moment we got the equaliser, the Geordies got on the backs of their players, bemoaning every missed pass etc. and we absolutely dominated, of course the goal helped and swung momentum our way but still think the fans hindered their team to an extent
  • Bowyer is always emphasising the crowd is like a 12th man . It obviously makes a difference to an extent.

Didn't villa take 4000 to Sheffield Wednesday at £40 a pop this season

Well we were in the Holmesdale end of the Arthur Waite stand, the bit that away supporters always got allocated up until our last couple of visits, when we've been at the other end of the same stand (putting aside when we got the whole stand for the 1-0 win in the title-winning season). If I recall correctly, the standard allocation (as in what we got in 95/96 in the league match and the play offs, and in 96/97) was just short of 3k. 2,883 is stuck in the "Entirely Useless Information" section of my brain for some reason.

You are definitely right concerning the £35, although at the time I was under the impression that it was some sort of unofficial supporter boycott rather than a club decision - you'd certainly know better than me on that though. The game was some way off being a sell out, maybe 21k, so we could definitely have taken more if we'd wanted to. Whilst the £35 price was undoubtedly a bit of a piss take, I still thought the turnout was pretty disappointing, particularly as we'd had about 8,000 there on our previous visit.
