Post Office doesn't dictate what council an area is in
Its in the London Borough of Bexley - that means it's in a London Borough - just like Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Kensington etc etc etc
Its a fact - upsetting though it may be for some
Postcodes trump Borough council boundaries as any postman, delivery driver and paper boy will tell you.
Mottingham with an M is obviously London. I lived there for 12 years and we had an SE9 postcode but Bromley Borough Council.
Grove Park is obviously Kent and rightly had a BR (as in Bromley, not British Rail) postcode, but London Borough of Lewistan was the council. And I should know, I run the shop up there next to the BR (as in British Rail, not Bromley) Station for long enough.
Plus the centre of London is Charing Cross / Trafalgar Square - this is the point all road distances from London (i.e. on the M1 where it would have a sign saying 200 miles to London)
So if we say 6 miles as crow flies from there, Charlton isn't in London
Welling is within the London Borough of Bexley and the historic county of Kent, and is approximately 10.5 miles (16.9 km) east-southeast of Charing Cross, the traditional centre of London

The schools in the Welling area were run (badly) by Kent CC.
Is it now the London borough of Kent? Why did nobody tell me? I demand they give it all back! Bloody Londoners.

Going by Trafalgar Square, we're only 0.5 miles closer...
