Doddie amazing man, Dina Asher Smith such a lovely, genuine character; I honestly think she was happier her coach won his awar than she would have been winning herself. And and great speach by Stokes - all puts some of the footballers to shame. Not sure how the autocue had 'winner' not 'contender' before voting opened; definitely one to look into. Great to see Lyle tweeting about our Jodan Dawes; he's such a genuine man. Princess Anne definitely more grounded than her younger brother, lol! Not sure if Dennis Law a wee bit confused or pished!
Why when other sportsmen or sportswomen do something good, it ‘puts some of the footballers to shame’??
I've not heard many footballers speak or behave as a well. I did say 'some' footballers. Antics on and off the pitch for starters
No one will remember a game of cricket on the 1st week of January 2020, but for Ben there is still a long time to go in the year !
Nailed on Lewis, if he wins another F1 Title this year though imo.
It's the euros and Olympics, Hamilton and Stokes could win the world cup, ashes, every grand prix, Wimbledon, the grand national, tour de France and the boat race and still not win it.

Right or wrong, that's how it is.
Quite - and viewing figures continue to fall for F1 which is why Sky had to slash the price of their channel. Apart from the British GP only highlights are on mainstream TV with the Spanish Grand Prix highlights on Channel 4, for example, having fewer viewers last year than a travel programme about the German city of Hamburg and also Gogglebox. It was down 31.5% on the previous year.
The other issue is that when a someone wins an event year after year what makes next year better than last? Yes it may be a record but the record in isolation is not something that the public will recognise when voting as against, for example, an athlete winning a one off Olympic track event especially if they break a world record doing it.
Finally, if anyone really believes that winning the F1 title again will secure SPOTY for Hamilton then they should back him at 12/1 to receive that award because he is only 4/6 to land the Diver's Championship.

Conquering a second sport should help his chances of winning SPOTY again. I hope he's getting training tips from Tom Daley.

I think he'll win the Driver's again and in a vacuum, that'd be enough for me to say he'd win SPOTY. But we're only eight days into the year! You can't legislate for what might happen (England win the Euros? A glorious cricketing summer from someone who isn't Stokes? Most unlikely but a tennis resurgence?), so I wouldn't feel comfortable taking 12/1 without potential context as to what could derail him from SPOTY through the achievements of others, if that makes sense.

It does make sense - my comment about the bets being related was based upon the belief of some that the success of one event makes the other inevitable. If that were the case then bookmakers simply wouldn't be offering such a massive price difference of 4/6 and 12/1 for the two events. Dina Asher-Smith, by way of comparison, is 9/4 to win the Womens 200m and 7/1 to win SPOTY which gives an indication how they feel one impacts on the other - Hamilton is 18 times the two prices whereas Asher-Smith is just over 3 times.
And bookmakers aren't usually too far off the mark.

However, having grown up with the amazing achievement of James Hunt winning F1, would never have thought anyone would overtake Michael Schumacher of all time wins.
With the Euros and Olympics then possibly 2021 may be his year?
Finally @PaddyP17 a tennis player...What odds on that 🤔

And you've hit the nail on the head with your memories - live F1 used to be very much part of the staple terrestrial diet on a Sunday. It's not any more.
