  • There's a risk that a thread like this could become just a list of movies.  It would be much more interesting if you explained why you regard each of them worthy of repeat viewings.

    Godfather 2
    Life of Brian
    Blazing Saddles

  • Predator
    Blazing saddles

    Dumb and dumber

There has never been a decent filmed Chekhov play in English.

    Saving Private Ryan
    Avengers: Infinity War
    The Pianist
    Terminator

  • big trouble in little china, i loved that film when i was young and still love it now. there was talk of a sequel but unless Kurt Russell and Dennis Dun are in it they shouldn't bother
  • Shaun of the Dead
    Hot Fuzz
    Lord of the Rings Trilogy
    Dark Knight Trilogy
    Anchorman
    Blood Diamond
    Birdman
    Shutter Island
    Hereditary

This year i've loved Joker & Le Mans '66
  • That’s a five star list! At least Planes, Trains... lightens it up a little bit!

For me there’s a slight difference between what I think are the best/ favourites and the films I’d watch over and over - for instance I think the likes of Schindler’s List and Never Look Away are incredible, but they’re hard to watch - and I’ve watched something like Iron Man 10x more!

Still...here are the films where I walked out thinking “oh wow that was amazing” and that I’d happily watch when they’re on...

    Amadeus
    Whiplash
    Point Break
    The Way, Way Back
    Lord of the Rings
    Back to the Future
The Secret In Their Eyes (original)
Once Upon a Time in the West
    Spider-Man 2
    Sicario
    Karate Kid
    The Truman Show
    Zodiac
    Face/ Off

Whose thread is this yours or mine?😺

    Fair point.

A lot of films, for me are about the relationships of the central characters and perhaps a period in history.

Mississippi Burning- Hackman,Dafoe and a young Francis McDormand. Period in history, segregation in the Deep South and that the rednecks finally get their comeuppance!

Planes Trains and Automobiles- Classic comedy and the perfect foils for each other in Candy and Martin.

Alien- The emergence of Ridley Scott (who I worked with once, my 10 minutes of fame, not) and a brilliant Alien.

Zero Dark Thirty - Tense period of time, perhaps heightened by being in America at the time of 9/11 and a good performance Jessica Chastain and well directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

Zulu - Caine and Baker and probably the first film to have an impact on me as a kid.

French Connection - Hackman and Schneider.

Godfather - Rise of Coppola. Pacino, Brando and Caan and of course the period it’s set in.

Goodfellas - Similar to above but with De Nero, Pesci.

Raging Bull - Fabulous performance by De Nero about a boxing legend.

In The Heat of The Night - Again period of time/appalling treatment of blacks and Poitier and Steiger.

Terminator - Arnie and ‘I’ll be back’ nuff said.

Pulp Fiction - Great casting, Jackson, Travolta (not sure if this was Travolta’s first major movie since Grease? and a surprise but great choice.)Thurman and Willis(someone I don’t generally like as an actor).

Godfather - Rise of Martin Scorsese. Pacino, Brando and Caan and of course the period it’s set in.

    The Godfather was Coppola.

Mulholland Drive - I like films, books & TV shows that make you think and the first time I saw the ending I was blown away. Piecing it together was really rewarding and I'd say it's the best of Lynch's films.

Taxi Driver - as a teenager it resonated with me. I love Scorsese, De Niro, the simple yet brooding soundtrack, the narration, its ambiguity. I've also visited a lot of its locations and recreated the DVD front cover.

Apocalypse Now - it's always felt like more than a film to me. It's epic, it's political, the soundtrack is amazing, it really feels like a journey then you have a maniac Kurtz waiting.

Tokyo Story - it really makes you think about how you may (mis)treat family members and take them for granted. Chishu Ryu is an awesome Japanese actor who draws empathy and the ending can't not leave you reflective and pondering how you can improve as a person.

North by Northwest - Hitchcock at his adventurous, mischievous, unique best I think. 'Vertigo' may be higher rated but this is more fun, has more memorable scenes and it's a perfect blend of art and blockbuster.
