Williams is the only change from the Addicks' team that drew with West Bromwich Albion last week. The Wales international replaces Conor Gallagher who was recalled from his loan with the club by Chelsea during the week.
There is also a place on the bench for Erhun Oztumer, who hasn’t featured, through injury, since the Addicks played Sheffield Wednesday in November.
Charlton are expected to play the same 3-5-2 formation with Dillon Phillips starting in goal and the defensive trio of Tom Lockyer, Deji Oshilaja and Naby Sarr in front of him.
Adam Matthews and Alfie Doughty will again operate as wingbacks with Darren Pratley and Ben Dempsey manning the midfield.
Williams is likely to play behind the front two of Josh Davison and Andre Green, starting against the club he was on loan at earlier in the season.
The versatility of Williams and Green means the Addicks could move to a 5-4-1 during the game.
Oztumer is joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Jason Pearce, Ben Purrington, Albie Morgan and Tomer Hemed.
To be fair I've no complaints about the starting line up - For 60mins Dempsey didnt disgrace himself and now it seems that JFC has had a potential set back
Would have been very disappointed had Davison been swapped for Hemed after his performance last week, he's there on merit for me
Am travelling to visit friends this afternoon, and will probably only be popping into this thread intermittently, so will be even more grateful than usual for the updates. On the plus side, I've just seen a robin on the wall outside my flat on my way out, so hopefully that's a good omen. 😊
I don't think we're surprised to see that Cullen is not in the squad. He's so vital for the rest of the season, they won't want to risk him until he's proven ready.
Like others, surprised to see JFC not there - really thought he'd start today and play an hour.

Only six subs though unless there isnt room on the team sheet?
Jonny Williams will return to the starting lineup for today’s game against Preston North End.
The attacking midfielder hasn’t started a game for the Addicks since limping off in Charlton’s 3-0 win over Derby County in October.

Hope there haven't been any setbacks.
Slowly getting players back but still missing eight or nine.
Three former Addicks in the Preston team.
PNE 0 - 1 CAFC (Davison)
UP THE ADDICKS
Glad we can count on our returning players to get us out of trouble......not. (JFC)
Was out for a year and came back into playing regular football too quickly (thanks to injuries) so got a hamstring injury
Until Bowyer says otherwise there could be any number of reasons for him missing today
