Square pegs in round holes.
Play a player in his own specialist position. That's what he was developed to do - and where he will play best.1 -
Lapslie was unreal! Great performance.
also nabby and lyle had top top games.Doughty looking a cut above again (the championship robertson)...Also bowyer had a good game tbf.1 -
Def got out of jail there2

Taylor easily the MoM but a great sub appearance by Lapslie, the best he's played for a long time, as last season a lot of the time there was effort, but little end product.
I think it says it all that 2 of our deadline day signings didn't start or even come off the bench.1 -
turns out their goal in the 2nd half that got ruled out for offside...was onside, which was a massive turning point for me. Made bowyer bring on Lapslie and the rest is history.
Guess it does swing in roundabouts, it was the game at Luton where we got shafted for maybe 1 or 2 offside goals right?3 -

When he played CB in a back 3 I thought he got bullied, though that view was very much against what most people saw. I actually thought the best I have seen him play was at right back.2 -
With 4 of the bottom 6/7 winning today, the relegation battle now looks a lot bigger, Hull in particular will be nervous as there are plenty of games left for them to be caught1

Lapslie and Bonne quality when they came on.
Only major moan from me today is why do so few people know the words to twist and shout?

One step at a time. Three decent results from our next three games and it’ll be ok. I think we’ve a tough minded group in place. We will do as well as we can.2

Harry Kane though!? Is that a positive or negative1 -
Told you guys it was too defensive with Oshilaja playing too. Lapslie made a huge difference and changed the game in our favour. I also called the 3-1 win the preview.
Huge 3 points. Moves us nicely forward and only around 8-10 points and that should be enough. Repeat our form from last 5 or 6 and we will be safe by April. More twists and turns to come but we will be fine.
Love it.7 -
A brilliant 3 points. The performance was so so but it changed when Lapslie came on. Without doubt his best game for us. Taylor was huge. He's our talisman. Bonne had a very good cameo as well. I thought both Sarr and Lockyer were weak as CBs and I actually thought Deji did ok. I thought Green was weak. He looked slow and sluggish. Oztumer had a strong game and Matthews, Cullen and Davis were steady.
The result flattered us I think as Luton troubled us as they came forward. But most of that was us being inept rather than them being good. But things changed when Lapslie came on. We needed that energy. A Gallagher type performance today from him. Really pleased for him.
A real battling performance that was. Bows will be well pleased.1 -
Stunning goal by Lyle and, despite one of theirs trying to put him off, a faultless penalty ... class2
-
Said it every week for months now: give Taylor what he wants. So important to the club for the next two/three years.2

A master class from Taylor - outstanding. Lapslie and Bonne made a big difference when they came on.
Our defending for their goal was embarrassing - plenty of players at fault.
Good atmosphere.2 -

Wigan are the side that'll survive, at the cost of who though.
Since January 1st:
Wigan: 11 points in 8 games.
Charlton: 11 points in 8 games
Does that mean Charlton also " have seriously gotten their shit together the last month or so" ....... ?19 -
Was pleased when Luton end started to give Taylor stick - that's all it takes ...11

It happened quickly but I want to see our third again, the way is saw it was that Lyle battled and won a 50/50 ball, played in Bonne who I thought did well in not shooting and playing in lapslie. Did Bonne hold off shooting to lay on lapslie or is my eye sight getting as bad as I think it is0

Exiled_Addick said:Pretty dreadful first half. Usual defensive frailties, really struggled to clear our lines, poor decision making on the ball, and no clear link between midfield and attack. Thought we looked very poor and a moment of magic from Taylor saved us going in a goal behind. Thank goodness Luton are such a poor side otherwise it would’ve been another Blackburn or Stoke. Two big let offs early in the second half - free header from a corner and then, probably, a wrongly disallowed goal after more ponderous possession in midfield. Finally, though, Bowyer made the much needed change to the midfield and everything changed. Lapslie changed everything. Suddenly we had energy in midfield, everyone looked comfortable with their roles, and we had links between all the lines. Our early season balance was back. The fact he won the penalty and scored the clincher were just icing on the cake.
Strong showing from Dills, dealt with everything he could reasonably be expected to. Matthews was good and best of the defenders. Doughty looks to have lost his early fearlessness and looks a bit tentative to me, but was far from dreadful. Lockyer was ropey as in the first half, better second (no coincidence that the midfield was providing better protection), Sarr very unlucky not to score and generally decent otherwise. Cullen played well, very busy and getting his touch and sharpness of turn and passing back, more to come from him as he finds that last 5% of fitness. Deji, he’s a trier but absolutely no need to have in that midfield with two other defensive minded players. Davis looked lost on the right of the diamond, but much better at the base in the second half. Ozzy, in and out of the game but nearly unlocked them a few times, overdue a goal now. Green tried but didn’t really affect the game that much and missed an absolute sitter, his pace is an outlet though. Taylor, only one to put on a full 90 minutes of good quality, and a magic goal. Without him we’d already be down. Bonne looked decent when he came on, another assist and a physical handful for their defence - he’s learning more and more tricks from Taylor.
Just got in and going out for dinner tonight so I am being lazy.
