But people are making a mockery of it by giving ridiculous marks to some players (Bonne has been getting 7s and 8s for the last two week when he is clearly out of his depth). He’s not the only one. This isn’t just a Bonne thing. I know this is all subjective but honestly!!! Some others are giving blanket 10s because we won. I get the sentiment but that is just plain daft. I find this interesting. @Viewfinder isn't afraid to take his own position on players but struggle to see how Cullen put in anything less than 9/10 yesterday. He definitely has potential and would say his first full start for Ireland demonstrated that he does have the possession game to play at a high level.
With better finishing and a little luck with the run of the ball, we’d have won both these games by 2, 3 or 4 goals.
Conversely, with a bit less luck we could have not won those games .
It’s like the beginning of the season when we had the rub of the green and were winning with 35% possession and everyone got far too bullish , this won’t be possible against the better sides .

Looking at short highlights, I have to once again admire Doughty's desire to either bomb it forward, assist or score. I'd like to keep him as a winger and not curtail these attributes with playing him at LB.
Out of interest, if you were offered a guaranteed win against Cardiff and a loss against the Scum would you take it? I'd say no but tempting.

No way will our GD take a battering. In the 2 matches we've not created much, but have looked very solid at the back. I can see Cardiff and Millwall both being tight games, where 1 goal might decide it, and I'm sure Bowyer will have a plan to try and stop Brentford and try and nick a point

For the record i genuinely feel all players played well as a team and are worthy of 9s. It was another pressure cup final and everyone did their jobs. Cant criticise anything and i don’t understand the criticism of bonne and mcgeady in particular both of whom looked dangerous and linked play well. Bonnes through ball anyone? 10s if they could have pulled out a 3-0.
FFS the commentators on the stream need to get windshields for their mics. Sound off after 5 minutes of each half. If that’s average for them I missed nowt but halfwit bullshit. Makes me much more nostalgic for my seat in the East

Bonne, Hemed and Aneke are not Sharp in the box at the moment despite doing some good work in the build up play. For Charlton to stay in the Championship; over the next seven matches, one, two or all 3, or even Davidson need to find the back of the net. (If he is involved ?)
Whenever Charlton win all players get higher ratings than they deserve in some cases, and vice versa when we lose.
Like @Covered End I believe the next 3 games are really tough and with most of the bottom 7 winning yesterday afternoon we have so much more still to do. (At least Hull blew their lead and Wall didn't roll over and have their tummy tickled against Barnsley)
Personally, it has to be Alfie coming in for McGeady, as we need to give our forwards more to feed on. Williams can do a cameo also but not if we are set up too defensive.
I don't see another clean sheet as the opposition forwards will get sharper as they get match fit. Let's hope that Bonne, Hemed, and Aneke get sharper in the box or otherwise the departed striker will continue to be sorely missed.
Ps. I still feel that decent Right side pacey forwards in the championship will expose Ossie at LB, despite he has done ok so far because for some reason the opposition coaches at Hull and QPR didn't seem to realise he can't tackle with his left foot !
@soapboxsam if I’m being honest my opinion of Bonne has wavered. There have been real moments of skill (astounding goal v Derby, goal v Bristol City) and there has always, always been 100% effort. And, for what it is worth, he comes across as a decent guy who is respectful of and grateful for the opportunity he has been given. In other words, I like him. He has also come on in leaps and bounds from where he started and that was always the point of his acquisition. But, having seen a thousand and one players over the years, my basic judgement is that he lacks the basic ability and natural talent to be any more than a run of the mill league 1 striker. The many “airshots”, the complete duffing of golden chances like the header v Hull, the complete lack of awareness at times like when he was offside yesterday when we had a great chance, the generally poor first touch. Fair play to the guy for making a real fist of it and I’m right behind him. But do I think he’s our star striker for years to come or someone who we will be getting millions for? Nope. Sorry.
Interesting looking at the games coming up. A lot of our relegation rivals still have to play each other, which is good as they can’t all get 3 points. A fair few (including us) still have a good number of teams chasing playoff positions to play too which in theory should be difficult for them (and us?) to get points from it.
Today was another essential 3 points in our battle to avoid relegation. I think we have a few more wins ahead of us too! And looking at the games around us (as much as we shouldn’t rely on other teams to help us out!) I think we have a very good chance to make it out of this the other side!

Even now he had extended his contract to help us out in these last few games - he could easily have done a "Taylor" and said I don't want to play.
But it is not just his commitment that has been outstanding, he is a talented player consistently winning the ball and laying it off intelligently. And your criticism of his deadball taking is absurd - he is one of the best at this that we have had for years.

His set pieces are rubbish. As previously mentioned on here he wasted at least 2 corners - one being overhit so much it went out for a throw to QPR. Most of his corners either fail to beat the first defender or are too long to do anything with. I'm amazed that both of our goals since the re-start have come from corners.......which sadly is also highlights just how poor we are generally with creating chances. Yesterday our best "created" chance was the great cross for an offside Bonne (by McGeady ?) and a couple of delicious through balls by Morgan that were just a bit too long (although have to give credit to their keeper for coming out of the box very quickly). The other main chance was Dougherty's shot which he made himself.
Saying all that I am fairly confident that we can stay up, but it will be through a couple more battling 1-0 wins against sides with nothing really to play for (Reading & Birmingham) than by winning comfortably. I still fear that the teams around us all seem to be picking up points (Luton & Barnsley especially) and no-one has lost both games yet with Hull being the worst having only picked up 1 point. Stoke v 'Boro being a case in point. Too many 6 pointers where a team loses one week & wins the next. Much rather the games being draws so points are dropped.

Disagree completely on this, there are only eight points between third from bottom Huddersfield and QPR in thirteenth and still 21 points to play for.
Some of those teams are in awful form and are very vulnerable indeed....I don’t think anyone from QPR down to Barnsley are either safe or doomed.

@Sillybilly Cheers for your reply about Macaulay Bonne. I'm pleased you saw how good he was in certain games in the Championship where his assists and goals will hopefully keep Charlton in the second tier of English football. Plus a couple more before the end of season ! Bonne was on the top of his game when the hamstring injury occured and since then he have became more inconsistent. It was the words out of his depth when someone has already proved that's not the case that I found difficult to understand ?
Unfortunately Bonne won't have Taylor to play alongside to learn quickly about the higher demands of playing League football compared to the National League and below. Karlan Grant improved no end from having the 28 year old Taylor to be his mentor before he left.
At this stage in his career, Bonne is still raw at the high level of the Championship but we live in hope that he can replicate his form against Derby, Bristol city, QPR away from earlier in the season.
Cullen's corners and free-kicks are inconsistent - he can deliver a very dangerous ball in but seems just as likely not to. At least there's always a chance it'll be good.

Yesterday, he tried harder to get it over the first defender and skied it over everyone. I'd consider Morgan taking them, but then Morgan is needed on the edge of the box because he can shoot and Cullen's shooting is also poorish.
Few are perfect and if Cullen was anywhere near the finished article, he'd be in a W Ham team that are struggling from falling into The Championship.

It could have been that one of his "over hit" corners yesterday was actually hit long on purpose 1)to try something differently and 2) to find someone running into the box unmarked. That view was shared by the commentator yesterday.

It could have been that one of his "over hit" corners yesterday was actually hit long on purpose 1)to try something differently and 2) to find someone running into the box unmarked. That view was shared by the commentator yesterday.
I wouldnt go by anything the commentators say. Good as they are, they are hardly neutral......more bordering on biased. Hardly going to say "that was poor by Cullen......"
I've mentioned this before but before Covid hit me & Golfie Jnr would usually "watch" the away games via Sky Soccer Saturday & updates on here & the official CAFC twitter feed. We lost count the amount of times we we read on here....."Corner to Charlton. Cullen takes.......and its cleared". So much do it's now a running joke between. If we get 8 corners in a match then we are lucky that one of our players gets on the end of it 2 or 3 times. A vast percentage are cleared without one of our players getting near to it. This might be common across all teams & all leagues.......but it still does my nut in.
This swooning adoration of Cullen is utterly ridiculous. He regularly
misplaces passes and fluffs dead balls. Wasted two corners yesterday - one wildly overhit and straight out of the play, the other
misdirected straight to the opposition.
Against stronger
opponents he and the rest of our midfield are brushed aside. We
witnessed this regularly against better teams at The Valley before
lockdown. A raft of opponents were able to convert resolute defence to
dangerous attack in a few seconds with three or four passes.
Cullen is merely an
adequate defensive midfielder for a club in the lower-second or
upper-third tier. We are fighting against relegation precisely
because of his shortcomings and those of his team-mates.
The best man by
miles at our club is Lee Bowyer. At last at Charlton, here is a man
with guts and spirit. Without him, we would be dead and buried.
I honestly don't know if you are bored and looking for a response or if you just want to increase the number of Lols you have. Because surely you can't be serious.
Look at some of the wasters we have had on loan in recent seasons, people scarcely even bothering to try. Josh Cullen is the exact opposite. He has given 100% in every game he has played for us. Even now he had extended his contract to help us out in these last few games - he could easily have done a "Taylor" and said I don't want to play.
But it is not just his commitment that has been outstanding, he is a talented player consistently winning the ball and laying it off intelligently. And your criticism of his deadball taking is absurd - he is one of the best at this that we have had for years.
Josh Cullen is an outstanding young man and a fine footballer. We are very lucky to have had him play for us for 2 years. He will go on and have a fine career. It is just a crying shame it will not be for us.
Cullen has been excellent, I'd love to keep him and I agree with nearly all you say. However, his corners have been poor all season, often going straight to the first defender. Yesterday, he tried harder to get it over the first defender and skied it over everyone. I'd consider Morgan taking them, but then Morgan is needed on the edge of the box because he can shoot and Cullen's shooting is also poorish.
Few are perfect and if Cullen was anywhere near the finished article, he'd be in a W Ham team that are struggling from falling into The Championship.
I'm not knocking Cullen he's excellent. I'm just pointing out a couple of weaknesses in his game.

If we can score 1 goal from a corner each game I will be happy, just then need the rest of the team to score some more
With better finishing and a little luck with the run of the ball, we’d have won both these games by 2, 3 or 4 goals.
Conversely, with a bit less luck we could have not won those games .
It’s like the beginning of the season when we had the rub of the green and were winning with 35% possession and everyone got far too bullish , this won’t be possible against the better sides .
I’m still not convinced by us just yet, we couldn’t have cherry picked two ponier sides to have restarted against ...
6 2 or 3 points this week will convince me otherwise !!
Can't say I agree that "with a bit less luck we could no have won those games." We fully deserved to win both games. Did Hull even come close to scoring? QPR had one chance all game. We had a lot more than that.

I'd say Barnsley have tough fixtures and will be relegated, as they are already behind.
Anything could happen and although unlikely I don't entirely discount Sheff W getting a points deduction nor QPR, Reading, Brum & Sheff W not winning a game and getting relegated on the final day.

Saying all that I am fairly confident that we can stay up, but it will be through a couple more battling 1-0 wins against sides with nothing really to play for (Reading & Birmingham) than by winning comfortably. I still fear that the teams around us all seem to be picking up points (Luton & Barnsley especially) and no-one has lost both games yet with Hull being the worst having only picked up 1 point. Stoke v 'Boro being a case in point. Too many 6 pointers where a team loses one week & wins the next. Much rather the games being draws so points are dropped.

I'm pleased you saw how good he was in certain games in the Championship where his assists and goals will hopefully keep Charlton in the second tier of English football. Plus a couple more before the end of season !
Bonne was on the top of his game when the hamstring injury occured and since then he have became more inconsistent.
It was the words out of his depth when someone has already proved that's not the case that I found difficult to understand ?
Unfortunately Bonne won't have Taylor to play alongside to learn quickly about the higher demands of playing League football compared to the National League and below.
Karlan Grant improved no end from having the 28 year old Taylor to be his mentor before he left.
At this stage in his career, Bonne is still raw at the high level of the Championship but we live in hope that he can replicate his form against Derby, Bristol city, QPR away from earlier in the season.
Presumably bookies being cautious re. possible points deduction, though I admit I'm not clear as to how it would work in terms of settling bets on the relegation market were that to happen.
1) when Charlton score press button 1 and huge cheers are played.
2) when Ref makes a shocking decision press button 2) and the crowd noise changes to the ‘you’re not fit to referee’
3) when one of the linos screws up the crowd noise is replaced with a recording of my son shouting ‘oi Lino, you should have brought your glasses mate.’ Heckled by a 10 year old.
