They sound like a club that tried to incite a bidding war and in the end were left empty handed. I suspect they really need the money and therefore unless another team comes in and outbids us, we'll go back in for him
Seems like Boreham Wood put out another statement the other day. Missed this. They seem to be accusing us of something.
“After a leaked article was anonymously put into the public domain yesterday and after much speculation that Charlton Athletic had made an offer for Wood fans favourite Sorba Thomas, the club can now publicly state, that Charlton have in fact made a bid,” said the National League side in a statement on their website. “But their kind offer falls a bit short of the club’s valuation of the player, which they were made very aware of that before making their offer in writing.
“We have out of respect to both Charlton Athletic, Steve Gallen and of course the player, reiterated our asking price to Charlton by detailing what would trigger our acceptance and we have also stated that we are very happy to take payments in stages to assist the player securing his move into the EFL.
“It’s very unfortunate that Sorbs was advised to pull out of our league game at King’s Lynn on Tuesday, to perhaps force through a move, but as my mother used to say, youth is wasted on the young. That said, as a smaller club we must stand up to that type of behaviour and orchestrated bullying."
They are trying to start a bidding war and that’s how I read the original statement, mentioning all the other clubs linked however it seems we are the only club to make an offer. I hope we go back in for him and agree something in the meantime however not holding my breathe.

Ultimately if they agree with our price then there’s a deal to be done but I suspect Gallen and Sandgaard won’t be bid up to a number past what they think he’s worth. If that means he goes elsewhere so be it.
Think Sorba would have been a better bet than Smyth, but what's done is done & I doubt we will be going back in for him come January.
Course you do. Whatever is the opposite option of what we do must be the better option.
Not allowed an opinion now am I ????
Sorry golfie but if we signed an unproven non-league nobody over Paul Smyth, who won Supporters Young Player of the Year in the Championship, was part of a league one promotion-winning side last year, and was wanted by LB & SG for the past three transfer windows, you would 100% be frothing at the mouth

Smyth was one of our best players at the weekend and Sorba is a kid, who I'm guessing you've never seen play, that's never played league football. You're either fishing for bites or you've lost your marbles

Of course you are, but maybe on occasion it could have a positive spin on it.
I am certain that you don't do it on purpose but your comments and your marks on the player marks thread are often fair or dare I say it generous, which is confusing when your general other posts seem increasingly negative.
Apologies for calling you out, but it is starting to feel like your angle is very much the opposite of whatever the club does.
I'd hoped we would see more positivity in general since the ESI ownership debacle was resolved, but no matter the ownership scenario many seem to demand instant success and spending, even when it is illogical.
Sadly, Golfies best years are behind him now we are moving forward as a Club. But what a decade of golden years to be miserable we have had, and no better leader have we had to drive the negativity. Viva la spivs, viva Roland, viva golfie. 😉

To be fair, I'd have probably been more excited by the signing of Sorba than Smyth
A permanent signing, rather than relying on loanees for a start, and with non league players there's always the thought of discovering a gem, whereas Smyth is a known quantity in terms of his league form
To be honest I'm slightly puzzled that LB & SG were so excited by Smyth that they wanted to sign him when we were in the Championship, when QPR didn't think he was good enough at that level

Bit of a difference between being excited or thinking one is a "a better bet" though.
I suppose LB & SG did think he was good enough. A bit like when we picked up Danny Mills from Norwich reserves. Or Kermorgant from Leicester. Can't always go by what other clubs think.

Although we signed Leko and Field last season from West Brom, another Championship club ....... 2 players that did well for us.
I saw that West Brom thought they were 2 young players who would getter better experience playing regularly in another club's 1st team, rather than on the fringes of their own squad.

West Brom were a promotion chasing side with a big budget (and still on parachute payments), whereas QPR were far more similar in level to us though
Field and Leko have never played below the Championship, whereas Smyth has now had 3 L1 loans, suggesting that currently it's his level

He'd played 70 odd games for them in two years.
Ok. Does it disprove the point?
If we can just go by what other clubs think maybe we can just get rid of Gallen and go by who's played the most for who

But at the time we signed him he couldn't get in their first team & was playing left wing for the reserves

No it doesn’t in fairness, and I don’t disagree with your point.
