  • We really do need another RB or CB in so I hope that's what we're looking at. We have to remember that we're Charlton; Pearce hasn't started the season, we crippled Gilbey within a couple of games, and the way Bowyer is describing Deji's injury I don't see him coming back any time soon. That leaves us with one RB, and two CBs. Add to that the fact that both Gunter and Inniss were signed late and haven't had a full pre-season, that makes them very susceptible to picking up injuries, as we saw with Maddison. As good as our back line looks at the moment we'll be singing a very different tune if one of them gets hurt for any amount of time at all. If we can get one more in there we'll have two in every position and we'll be looking decent.
  • Far be it from me to disagree with Bow, but I would still make the recruitment of a pacey goalscorer my top priority. Of course, if there simply are none available that are good enough and affordable, then ok.
  • Would like us to wait till January, if any injuries come along we could then sign to keep us strong for the final push

So we're not looking at a striker then...

RB/CB is the main priority now I agree. We're one/ two injuries away from square pegs round holes again. We've just got two hard fought 1-0 wins in a row and better performances... but then we now have every position covered.

Inniss gets injured tomorrow we're back to Pratley covering there.

Gunter gets injured we have no replacement.

They both get injured we're fooked.
  • I don't think LB will want to call on Charlie Barker again, yet that might be the only option if Gunter or even Innis were to pick up an injury at the moment so a right sided defender would be the most obvious position to strengthen the squad.

The problem u have with frees atm, is convincing players to sign for 2.5 bags when they have been on min 7
Min 7? Sounds like someone with decent pedigree then... Bow saying no striker in though

    Maybe Bostock

EDIT - Just noticed he's not actually a free agent, still under contract at Toulouse.

Bostock is a free agent left before the window closed

2.5 bags is still better than nothing.
If they are out of contract  then that is probably all they will get offered.
If your monthly salary has been the equivalent of the average annual wage, you should be in a position to still be picky and wait it out for a few months and maybe get an offer in Europe

Bostock's contract was cancelled on the last day of the window so he can sign now

Personally a lot depends on Deji's fitness otherwise a right sided defender would be needed

Yeah Bowyer said not a striker so could be Bostock.

Is Hiwula the free agent striker @Redhenry was talking about a few days ago?
    nope
Cheers for the reply fella. Many on here really appreciate that you put out what you can and again many of us are capable of realising that things can change at any time, but are still grateful for whatever snippets you can drop on here.

  • Signing Bostock would be great and all but poor Shinnie and Gilbey! I think it'd be perhaps unnecessary
  • Anyone know if Bostock left Toulouse before the end of the window?
Someone could ask him on social media maybe? Got nothing to lose

Agreed, I'd maybe get a right sided defender in for 10 weeks on a short term deal. Then reassess in January. I reckon the player might be tempted too because it keeps them fit and earning and they can reassess in Jan too.
  • Are we not happy to let Wiredu be RB back-up and Barker behind Oshilaja as CB reserve? I would be. No need to pad out the squad much more unless we can unearth someone with proven quality

I like Wiredu from what I've seen (very little admittedly) and Barker looked ok. If we have room in the budget though and signed a defender on a deal until January which doesn't affect any transfers plans for the window then I see no negative.
  • Surely we are full on midfielders now.

Did Bostock play with Williams and Watson at Palace?
  • Are there any U23s who could step up, such as Vega or Ness?

It's weird that our academy at the moment has a lot of good midfielders, but relatively few defenders. The likes of Barker, Vega and Ness aren't home grown players really
