Some good, some rust.

Crewe bite the dust.

  • Got to be happy with that.
  • Good solid win, no dramatic holding on at the end.

    Very unlike us.
  • Didn't expect anything today - am pleasantly surprised!
  • Can't argue with a decent away win. Would expect Crewe to struggle but 3 points is a great start.

Also helps that a lot of the other likely promotion contenders (Sunderland, Pompey, Oxford, Peterborough) all failed to win.

Barker superb again, what a find.

Great result considering our squad problems.

Crewe played well and worked hard. We struggled to string 2 passes together for long periods, the second half especially was really bad before Chuks came on, when the ball started to stick up front. But the difference in the end was our quality in the final third, and you can tell we have goals in the team at this level... Which will be nice!

Barker had a really good game. 17!!

Can never complain at a 2-0 win away from home. A couple of shaky moments at the back but to be expected when you have a 35 year old centre mid at the back and a 17 year old scholar playing right back.

Job done. Reinforcements to come (hopefully).
  • Happy with that, 3 points, clean sheet all being well a TO soon and squad additions, onwards and very much upwards.

Cant complain at all really. 3 points away from home.

Thought Gilbey was excellent and Washington worked his nuts off with bits of quality.

Bonne really needs to work on his hold up play i think. His touch isn't great but in that formation, especially against better teams, he has to be our outlet and relief, he can't just turnover possession easily.

Purrington is a solid LB at this level.

    Crewe were poor.
  • Proud of that considering the situation, well done charlton
  • Good win and performance to go along with it. Definitely need some signings, but can't moan today.

Let's hope TS can finalise his takeover early next week

Plenty of pros and cons to dissect, but first game you can’t be anything other than delighted with a win and clean sheet.

Barker is an absolute beast for 17, certainly don’t want us having to start him every game, but great to know we have a player like that to come on and see out games.

A win and a clean sheet - job done.

Only disappointment was that Eliottttttt wasn’t there to see it.

That will do. 3 points, clean sheet away from home. Well done the lads. Lots of positives.
  • Certainly a work in progress... We've not had the lengthy pre-season of previous years so the rustiness was clear from both teams.

We can definitely improve as a team as well, Bowyer is right when he says that we'll be fine for the time being but when we get to the crunch games in October and get towards Christmas with injuries then we'll start to struggle if we dont get bodies through the door - If we can get this takeover done then we'll easily be top six in my opinion maybe even top two which is what I think we can ultimately achieve

Crewe wont be the easiest of games this season but they wont be the hardest by any stretch of the imagination, especially once players for all teams get that match sharpness back

We definitely need players through the door and stabilised within the squad before the Sunderland game though!!
  • Comfortable. Showed our class at this level. Crewe played into our hands by trying to play out from the back. Lovely finish by Doughty & Washington.

Impressed by Gilbey looks a top league 1 player.

Desperately need some defenders as can’t continue to get away with that back 4. Fully expect us to be near top 6 come May.
  • Grit, determination, talent and no small amount of luck. Players out of position all over the pitch which we won’t get away with over a season. Great three points but boy do we need Sandgaard and a few square pegs for square holes. Well done to all those that went.

Pretty poor apart from the goals if we're honest. Not enough possession, and I'd love to see what percentage of our passes were across the back four, or backwards.
Urgently need centre halves and someone who can pass the ball in midfield.
Without his goal we might well be berating Washington right now. [Edit: Might be a bit harsh].

Gilbey was a positive, and Barker did little wrong considering he might not have much experience at right back.
Amos's kicking was worse that Phillips'.
Still, three points is three points.
Let's hope the sale happens Monday or Tuesday, and these new players can be brought in.

We’ll play better this season, but in truth it was still pretty comfortable. The work rate and team spirit Bowyer demands was clear to see, despite everything that has gone on in 2020. That has to be encouraging.

Until this takeover is done, the embargo is lifted, and new signings can be made, any points all have to be seen as a bonus so 3 points is an excellent start regardless of any rustiness in the performance.

To get a clean sheet with almost the most makeshift defence you could think of is another bonus.
