  • Handing it back isn’t going to make him look any better to the public so I doubt he will. Unless it would affect his sentencing. I also imagine it will be a suspended one.
He is likely to serve time inside.

By the testicles in a disused aircraft hangar!

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. People with convictions for possession of larger quantities of child abuse images have got non-custodial sentences.

Exactly. The wrong 'un that sent the Cat A images to him only got a suspended sentence. Edwards won't be doing any jail time I think.

His reputation is ruined regardless, and he has basically no career and no hope of earning money again. Can’t imagine he’ll be in a hurry to give any of his salary back.

I believe he is 62 and has probably a good pension to look forward to, i doubt he is short of money.
  • Pleasantly surprised by the bbc stance here. No doubt his lawyer will use this a leverage though and he’ll avoid a custodial sentence.
  • Pretty unlikely Edwards will give it back. He’s finished career wise and it will take a long time before he can live any sort of “normal” life. Not sure on what legal grounds The BBC could take action to reclaim the money with any success. Edwards will be comfortably off for the rest of his days but hopefully will remain a pariah. I don’t think he’ll serve time in prison despite his crime being far from victimless. I hope he does though.

Huw Edwards has been asked by the BBC to hand back the salary he earned from the corporation after being arrested on child abuse image charges.

In a letter to staff the BBC Chair Samir Shah said that Edwards had "behaved in bad faith", saying that the corporation believed he had taken his salary despite knowing he was to plead guilty to the offences.

Good point that. He knew he was guilty so should have walked then.
  • Take away his money, who will be paying for his existence then? Unfortunately probably us. He’s been caught exchanging filthy images, he ain’t going or of a sudden start doing the “right thing “. I also doubt the BBC expects him to give back an enormous amount of money, they are just making the right noise.

Him giving back any salary paid, voluntarily or otherwise, is not something the sentencing guidelines used in the magistrates court will take into account. Nor should it be.

Will probably end up driving a cab in some Welsh seaside town

I think he'd be very unlikely to be allowed to get a job doing that
  • He has no need to work with the salary he received for many years.

I wouldn't presume to know the state of his personal finances, regardless of his past earnings. You state that as if you know it to be a fact.

He's 62 years old and has worked for the BBC for decades so I think it's fair to assume he will have a decent pension to look forward to.

Have a look at his Wikipedia, it says that he earned between £550K and £599K for the last few years of his BBC career. Highly unlikely that he needs to work again.

Does Wikipedia list his outgoings? Don't they impact on his personal wealth? Had your original post said it was highly unlikely, I wouldn't have responded to it.

    Good point.
He possibly spends a lot on photos.

I would imagine one outgoing could possibly be divorce settlement if Mrs E decides not to stand by him.

It's splitting hairs but do you really think that someone who has been earning such a high salary needs to work again at the age of 62?

Or blackmail money? Legal fees? Might have other undisclosed addictions, not to mention whatever it's cost to raise 5 (five) kids. I'm not a parent, but they're high maintenance aren't they.

    No. But I don't know.

His annual pension is worth 300k, so the creep doesn't need to work.
  • Nailed on he moves abroad, quiet little village somewhere no one knows him.
  • It would be interesting to compare BBC salaries with those of presenters on other broadcasters.  These are the latest published figures I can find. (Non-BBC in bold).

    Ant and Dec £13m
    Amanda Holden £5m
    Stephen Mulhern £3m

    Dermot O'Leary £2m
    Holly Willoughby £1.8m
    Gary Lineker £1.35m
    Nigel Farage £1.17m
    Zoe Ball £950k
    Greg James £415k
    Stephen Nolan £405k
    Fiona Bruce £405k

Number seven on this list might be a bit of a surprise

    It is
    He deserves much more.
  • £13m each?
  • £13m each?
Yes they need it as they spunked all their money in AntandDec bank.
