Injured players -2020 - 2021 Season

Last season we had 14 players out injured at the same time.

Thought it might be useful to have a thread were we could list /discuss players that are injured, what the injury is, and when they are due to return.

To be fair, I can’t keep up with who is out injured, and who is fit to play.

So if someone can get the ball rolling please I’d appreciate it.

Quite happy with someone who specialises in lists, taking over this thread!

  • Your right Ross, but it won't let me choose a catergory, when adding from an iphone?

    As long as it takes.

Achillies injuries can be a bit difficult sometimes.

So up to 3 and counting so far.
True, but then every match day when the 18 are announced we are suddenly made aware of at least 2 more that are "carrying a knock"
Not to mention those that aren't up to required fitness levels and the ones that can never do 90 mins.
    How many does that leave?
  • Williams, Levitt & Gunter. Fell over each other trying to get into Gigg's minibus. Out until xmas......😄
  • Is Waqim still out injured?

Am I only the only one who thinks having a thread on injured players is tempting fate?

You may think I'm a worrywart but when this thread is longer than the takeover thread you'll see how right I was.
  • Maybe.

But given our history it is a foregone conclusion, thread or not that we will have many injuries... Maybe the thread will stem the flow.

    So Far:

    Name - Return Date - Injury/Location
Jason Pearce - Late October - Knee
Deji Oshilaja - Unknown - Niggle / Foot (Old injury?)
    Alex Gilbey - November - Something/ Achilles & Calf
If they have a broken leg then they seem to return

Anyone with a little niggle seems to disappear for most of the season.
Beware the "this doesn't need an operation" comment on the OS, as this invariably leads to needing an operation 4 months later when the problem won't go away.
  • Add Maddison to the list

  • They'll all be back in April for our promotion run in.
  • So two out of four new players injured already.
  • Interesting post's on here yesterday by sage regarding injuries.
Now, I fully agree with his comments about posts criticising  or blaming injuries on  L.B.'s intensity of training as daft (or words to that effect).
I've never witnessed one of the clubs training sessions or have sage's knowledge of the medical support at Charlton.
    So today.
I was browsing the air waves and caught a conversation with former Norwich city footballer Mark Rivers and Andy Goreham previewing the Rotherham v Norwich game.
They were both moaning about the Norwich City's injury list which has plagued them though last seasons prem campaign and is a current problem.
Part of the discussion could have implications for Charlton.
Apparently after selling Godfrey to Everton for megga bucks and loaning Famewo to us, they find themselves with just three centre backs and one of those is apparently injured.
The manager tried to sign a replacement yesterday  but drew a blank, quoting financial reasons for the lack of activity. (surprising since the money they got for Godfrey and Lewis).
    I digress.
Mark Rivers was moaning about modern day players injuries.
He said he was never injured in his career (don't think he was that good anyway)
In fact he said, "if you look back, players didn't get injured in the quantities that happen today".
He was surprised that with all the technology, the sports scientist, the dieticians and all the paraphernalia surrounding the modern game, that so many footballers get inured so often.
He laughing talked of consuming large quantities of ale after training sessions.
Now I don't necessarily agree with his argument but (and its a large butt) he's got a point.
Maybe today footballers are more athletic and the game is played at a greater pace than years ago.
He also suggested that footballers should be allowed to follow training programs which suits their needs, something that Page mentioned in his interview that has has kept him playing this season.

As I've said a few times I recall watching a programme about Forest's European exploits in the late 70's & early 80's. One of the players said that they played around 70 matches in those seasons (2 legged European ties, cup replays, 42 game league season) and a load of them played most if not all those games. Also only one sub allowed in those days & also played on heavy muddy pitches for 3 months of the season as well.

Can't see too many of our players playing 70 games across 2 seasons, let alone just one.

That would be annoying Famewo gets recalled already, hes looked good so far.

He's a Norwich player though so there is always that risk that parent clubs can recall a player if they have an injury crises.

Can’t be recalled until January at the earliest.
  • Yes I think your right January at earliest

Ah thats OK then. I thought there was some clause that players can be recalled during an injury crisis.
  • Maddison can’t be that injured - he posted an Instagram story of him climbing 8 flights of stairs to his flat this evening.
  • So two out of four new players injured already.
This reads that we only signed 4 new players.

2 of the 4 injured players are from the 11 new players
