Basically taking over his contract from Luton. Needs to impress now otherwise he'll be another to leave in the summer.
Tbh I can't see how this makes any difference. He was on loan until the end of the season & as the transfer window has closed there is no recall. Just means we are now paying ALL of his wages.
Weird when you come to think if it. Must be more to it.
A good deal for all concerned. Charlton free up a space in the matchday squad for loan players & Shinnie gets until the end of the season to earn a new contract

Agree.
Don't think he's as bad as some say but his not been brilliant or consistent either.

We had 6 loan players so only 5 could be named in a matchday squad.

It's already been explained by Bowyer though. We had 6 loans and therefore 1 loan player had to miss out from the Matchday 18. Who would you leave out from Shinnie, Famewo, Stockley, Millar, Smith or Maatsen?
Evidently Bowyer wanted to select all 6.
Now, with Shinnie signed on a permanent contract, all 6 can be selected. It's as simple as that.
He’s a good player imo. Think he’s one that needs consistency, as most players do. Hopefully he has a regular position nailed down now and stays injury-free to show what he can do.

and he's got to do a lot more to convince me he's good enough for even League One. If by some miracle we do go up then he's not a Championship player imo.

oops, see Oggy has stolen my thunder.
Sorry, Large. Didn't mean to take away your chance to put your bruv Golfie in his place..
He's a very good player, and you can see the talent he has on the ball and for me (along with the defence) was one of the major reasons we went on that winning run near the beginning of the season.
Has not looked at his best since he returned from injury, but has done a decent job considering he has been played out of position on the right and overall we've not been great anyway.
Can only see this as a positive, and is certainly not something Wigan could afford to be doing.....
I think he's a cracking player and underrated by many on here. He'd be in my first XI if everyone was fit. Needs to get back to his early season form, easily good enough for this division.
Happy with this - really don't get everyone's problem with him, he's got a great eye for a pass and already provided a few assists this year pre-injury, think he's just not 100% sharp right now. More than good enough for L1
Not overly impressed to be honest. 31 years old so not exactly building for the future. From what little I've seen of him he seems a steady 7 out of ten sort of player. Having said all that I wish him all the best.
Think he's one of our best players... Does the simple things right and keeps us ticking. Need to find a way to play him in the middle, he is wasted on the right

If we had an entire team of those then we probably wouldn't be where we are. Too many players putting in 5's is the problem.

Player of the season when Luton went up! My Luton mates gutted to see him go.

Frightening how many people don't understand why he has been signed even though our manager has already explained why. I'm talking across the Charlton media's as well.
To clarify.
- Enables us to now field all of our loanees
- Means we still keep one of the better players we have had this season
- As he is officially a Charlton player he will have to play at his best to earn a new contract, whether with us or someone else we 'should' have a hungry player on our hands.
Fairly confident our management and owner are aware that he is ageing and a league 1 promotion fix at best, which is exactly what we need for now.

Can't really argue with you on that. But at 31 years of age he's hardly going to improve and as we have seen with Pearce and Pratley plus Watson and to some degree Gunter players can go downhill fast once they get to this age. I would have preferred someone younger is all I'm saying.

I think he has been excellent. Always looking to get on the ball, dictates play and tracks back, 4 assists and 2 goals in 16 games isn’t the worst record either and I’m pleased he’s signed permanently. Would imagine when we don’t go up he’ll sign an extension

I like Shinnie and he knows the league well. Am glad he is one our own, rather than a loanee.
Gunter - Oshilaja - Famewo - Maatsen
Shinnie - Pratley - Smith
Jaiyesimi - Millar
Stockley

I am happy with the situation
Meanwhile we signed players like Gunther on 2-year contracts with an option of another year.
The length of the contract says a lot about our intentions for the player.
When the season is over, likely we will go for someone younger. Until then, he's one of the few midfielders we have with composure.
