Our defence is very sound but the rest pretty much clueless despite the effort.
Smyth looks like Simon Church but with a weaker shot and Bogle like a slower version of Magennis if if that's possible. If either of them score more than five goals this season it will be a miracle.
Pretty much no midfield until Pratley appeared.
No chances created and two goals.
Don't be deceived by the score. That was bang average league 1 rubbish but we won.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but one would hope that supporters would have a better understanding of the game.
We had two shots on target the whole game
Are you agreeing with me or grumpy?
Chucking out a random stat doesn’t really add to a discussion, but do feel free to quote as many as you wish. I would also add that this is a points driven business.
I'm agreeing with grumpy, and yep of course three points is the same regardless of performance, but getting the rub of the green isn't a good performance at all.
And you didn't refute anything grumpy said. Just an attack on how they viewed the game. Doesn't really add to a discussion
So you think JFC, Doughty, and Bogle were clueless and that we didn’t create any chances. OK.
Out of three corners, JFC got two onto Inniss's head which resulted in one goal and one should-have-been-a-goal-how-did-he-miss-that-it-was-easier-to-score-where's-Harry-Redknapp's-grandmother-when-you-need-her.
Along with scoring on Tuesday, does that give him a bit of leeway for the rest of his performance?
Seem to remember people decrying Levitt, but note that he had a pass accuracy of 71.4% Smyth on the other hand only 27.3% I know Levitt is midfield and Smyth forward, but seems quite a difference in quality
Excellent distribution from Amos to Doughty for the 2nd.
It's been a while since we've seen a Charlton goalie send a flat and accurate ball out to set a counter attack. Amos and Doughty made that (own) goal from nothing.
Was just watching the replay and it's a terrible ball from Doughty straight to their defender. Bogle is free at the back post for a tap-in. Two others running in the box open and he hit it straight to their man. Fortunate he couldn't sort his feet out and puts it in his own net. Always tough when you're running toward your own goal
Yes, if the defender missed it, none of our players were in line for it either. And to be fair, Doughty had a bit of time to make the pass after his great run.

To be fair to Smyth, there was probably a big difference in difficulty of passes attempted!

Fair point, i was only following the match thread, and assume you watched via a stream, so really does prove if your assessment is correct that statistics are only of very limited value, and don't give a fair vision, but only to be taken as a guide

Yes, that's the whole point.
It's very difficult to defend ....... defenders are running the wrong way facing their own yawning goalmouth. And your attackers are facing the right way moving towards goal.
If the defender gets to the ball first, where can he put it? And if he can't get to the ball first under pressure, it should be an open goal facing your attackers.
I wouldn't say it was a terrible ball from Doughty - his instruction was no doubt get to the bye-line and lay the ball back on the floor towards the penalty spot, avoiding the keeper who otherwise would cut it out. If anything, at that point Bogle had over-run and was too far forward at the far post.
It's a very old fashioned tactic popular during the days of a winger on each wing - and very effective in it's simplicity. And a nightmare to defend.
I'm trying to work out why Alfie Spanner isn't getting enough praise for his performance against Blackpool and the Cobblers ?
Millwall Doughty, on his wrong side left the defence for dead in both matches with his pace and then picked out agent Sowerby to pick his spot against Northampton and his head back against Blackpool.
Alfie can rest up in his den for a week and hopefully can come back with his head out of Bandages and can carry on his lion like charges down the wing ( hopefully just Cramp)
Commentator says, "Fortuitous touch from Bogle to set up Pratley .....".
So I run the rewind over Bogle's contribution to see what had happened:
From the corner kick, towering header from Inniss; Bogle being held back by defender in the 6 yard box gets a touch with his foot and then uses his chest to kill the ball, intending to swivel and shoot I reckon ....... but watching Bogle's body language, clearly there is a call from Pratley to leave it, who then rifles home.
Nothing particularly fortuitous from Bogle, who I thought played a pivotal part in providing the touch and space for Pratley to finish. Assist Bogle.
PS: The defender holding back Bogle suddenly crashes to the floor - what did Bogle do there?

I said as much on the match thread. Doughty’s pace is devastating when has space to go into like that. His weight of touch and ball control when running at pace are also good. It was a inexcusably poor cross though and I was already opening my mouth to swear at him when it ricocheted off the defenders legs and in. They all count, but he got lucky on this occasion and it was an example of what happens too often with him when he gets to playing the final pass.
Not getting on his back, he’s a young lad and shouldn’t be expected to be the finished article yet, but he does need to improve his quality of end product. It going to define how far he goes in the game. With it, and he’ll play in the Premier League at some point. Without it he’s just fast lower Championship/upper League 1 player.
"A former semi-professional player, Allison combines working for the fire service with his refereeing career, which he started in 2011."
There's the clue. He didn't even pick up a whistle until 9 years ago. As an ex-player himself, he admits he wasn't the quietest player on the pitch towards the match officials!
Good to have a referee who was an experienced player at a decent competitive level.
As someone posted earlier said, yellow are successful passes. Heat maps, passing maps etc are always attacking in one direction for the 90 minutes. Not swapping at ht, hence Amos all one way, Gunter all down 1 side etc.
Three excellent points in very bad conditions including a crap pitch. it was not going to be a pretty affair but we dug in and deserved the win. i never realised what a bad sportsman Northampton’s manager is, considering how the referee never gave us anything and gave them considerably more free kicks than they deserved.
another good result got to do it again Tuesday 👍👍👍

Probably why they were trying to mark (and press) him out of the game.

I should imagine he'll be retired within 10 years.
