Great interview. I must admit I'm very surprised we are only averaging 4k sales on the streams. I think the stream is really good value for money and I must admit I hope they continue if and when grounds finally allow fans back, living in north wales means it is not possible for me to get to every game but the stream allows me to see the game as well as make a small contribution to the club. What are the reasons for the small tickets sales do people think ?
You can have a family of 4 watch a stream, but they would have purchased 4 tickets. Be interesting to see how we compare to other clubs.
I made that point on the call. We have 3 season tickets in our house but of course only buy one stream. If i'd have had to have guessed before knowing the number i'd have said maybe 5k would be good.
If Thomas is serious about his ambitions for the club, which I think he is as I get the impression he "doesn't do failure" is Sparrows Lane actually fit for purpose anyway?
Ignore the fact that he doesn't own it. Is it big enough to host the 1st team, an increased development squad, a bigger academy, a woman's team, CACT, improved medical facilities Kennels etc etc?
I haven't been there for about 25 years so others would be better placed to judge. I do know that other clubs have built specialist academies away from the 1st team training ground though.
I’ve only paid for one stream & the quality was awful, sound was terrible & lots of stuttering yet my iptv streams , Netflix etc are perfect on my fibre broadband.
I wouldn’t mind paying for them if the quality was there but until that’s sorted I’ll support the club financially in other ways
Getting into the streams via valley pass is still a clunky affair and a bit of a pain in the arse for me. Might put some off.
I think making all the pre interviews and reaction free to everyone and then really pushing the streams once you've got people in might be something to look at. If you could quickly buy and watch a stream at the touch of a few buttons that would help. Drop the price to £5-7 due to the free content.

Good write up, very glad to see CAST finally looking like they might get to a working relationship with the club. It’s been a long while coming!
Would say though, keep him / club away from influencing your surveys. They have the ability to run their own, and it’s vital you ask the questions YOU want to establish from fans without influence. Good luck
Always good to be aware of the possibility of being influenced but I don't think that means keeping him away from surveys.
Asking him if he might want to add anything to a survey doesn't mean that we wouldn't be able to ask the questions WE want to ask. It is just working a bit more collaboratively.
And the survey results would continue as always to be presented and reported fully independently.

Thanks, AFKA.
And don't worry, we will ask our own survey Qs as always.
It makes sense to offer the club the chance if they wish to ask more on a specific area eg maybe around Valley Pass - understanding and improving that benefits fans and the club.
Even in recent years we have worked with the club in this way - eg asking about the ticketing system.
We even used to share our findings with Meire to highlight how many season ticket holders she managed to lose...

I genuinely wonder if she has ever reflected on her time at Charlton, her divisiveness and her incompetence.
I watched some of the protest videos last night and she was clearly out to provoke, standing at the window in full view whilst protests were under way.
When the book of the last few years is written, I hope that she is one of many that are exposed for the damage they did to our club, whether through arrogance, incompetence, nefarious objectives or a combination of all three.

Might be wrong but isn’t the price set by the EFL?
"Part of Ged Roddy’s role is to look at 'streamlining the way Charlton play' so that young players 'fit into the system' when they come through."
Any more details on how this will work exactly? I take that to mean Ged will be getting the youth teams to play similar football to the first team, rather than changing the way Bowyer approaches games

This is how the OS says the academy currently play, doesn’t seem that different to the way Bowyer wants the first team playing.
The guiding beliefs below form the bedrock of the Academy playing philosophy and style in the ‘Charlton Way’.
In possession
Individual players to take care of the ball, controlling and passing with a range of good technique
Players to understand and be able to create and exploit space, combined with being able to receive and deal with the ball under pressure
Team play to focus on passing in/from all thirds of the pitch in a 4-3-3 or midfield ‘diamond’ with high emphasis placed on possession and quick play. Also, recognising counter-attack opportunities
Out of possession
Players must have the mentality to defend. Defending starts from the front; with high pressing when numbers are available
Players must take responsibility for their defending and be difficult to beat in 1v1 situations
Players must respond quickly to the loss of possession and recognise when to press and when to drop to establish a compact defensive shape
I’ve finally put my hand in my pocket to listen to my brother again. I was boycotting & if I’m honest I get quite emotional listening to him when it’s been nearly a year since I’ve seen him (through no fault of our own).
But I only listen to the comms. I’m really not interested in watching a stream, especially at those prices. When the world gets back to normal I’ll be coming over to games now & then & that’s how I’d rather spend my money.

It also means if/when Bowyer goes, which he will, they would appoint a manger that's uses the same sort of tactics and systems. Ie play the "Charlton way".
What a refreshing interview!! How great to have an owner who cares, has ambition and wants to include the fans. We could be on the 'Threshold of a Dream' (apologies to the Moody Blues) which just a few short weeks ago we could never have imagined. TS has his plan, I wouldn't bet against it coming to fruition. Well done to the Trust as well for asking the questions and to TS for taking the time to give full and frank responses.
Wouldn't read too much into the number of people watching streams as it's fairly obvious to all that people have been sharing/watching together.
For a couple of games earlier in the year i watched at a mates house and there were 7 of us. 1 person paying for a stream = a tenner against 7 who'd have gone to a match = over 100 quid.
Considering the sharing, i'd say 4k streams for a league one club is fairly decent really.
Going back to the Ged Roddy appointment, I watched the youth fa cup semi final between man city and Blackburn yesterday on BT sport.
Man city romped it. The commentator did say during the game that the man city philosophy and especially style of play is filtered down to their youngest youth levels and by the time they reach the first team they are already perfectly adapted to how they will be expected to play to a big degree.

"By the time they reach the first team." At Man City!? Who was the last one before Foden?
I'm sure that commentator said it without a hint of irony as well
In reality few players have a seamless rise from the academy to the 1st team, playing a consistent system and style of play. For a start, most will have one or more loan spells, and even if the loan club has a similar style it won't be the same.

A bit deep those pockets aren’t they? At £10 they are a bargain and the price is set by the EFL so there will not be any cheap offers unless the Club subs it.
Being abroad you don’t even pay £10!
There have been a few blips, but overall the picture, sound quality and the commentary has been excellent. Far better quality picture than BT can muster!
It’s your money and your choice, but I don’t think you and others are being fair criticising the price, I think it is good value and my spending is way less than I spend following Charlton - even if I exclude going to away games. It costs a tenner to get the coach to a home game FFS.
"He also told us that “the Range Rovers are being repossessed as we speak”. Throughout this part of the discussion it was clear from Thomas’s demeanour that he was quite horrified by what had gone on: “It is amazing how much this club has been abused.”
Thought this was interesting.
I assume this to mean that Southall and/or Farnell still haven't returned the Range Rovers.
"Abused" is also a very strong word. Again the finger points to Southall and/or Nimer/JVS/Hellier/etc IMHO

Is the single camera feed something the club can do anything about? From my experience of watching the Wigan game, it was a pretty shitty experience to watch just from that camera, and yes I know if I'm in a stadium its just your eyes, but the expectation of what you get on a PPV stream is higher
Lovely interview, happy to read it more than once because of the feel good factor, such a thoroughly decent bloke, as Tim Nice but Dim would say.
Good to hear the Range Rovers are being repossessed and that ESI's solicitors are also being dealt with by his attorneys.
He mentioned Tony K and Chris P having their fingers on the pulse. Of course he obviously wouldn't give his opinion on Burger Boy in print but wondering what his opinion may be?

Said and appears to be doing the things we've been waiting years for.

very very disappointing.
