Will we be champions

  • 8 season in a row that a relegated team from championship has won promotion the following season. It says a lot about the difference in quality between league 1 & championship.
    My money is on wigan

Long long long way to go and some very even and decent sides in this league.

Let’s see where we are in January before we can make any kind of prediction.

However, I must admit, if we manage to get 9 points in our next 3 games heading into December, I’ll be getting very excited.

Until we play Peterborough on 29th December, on paper, Ipswich away on 28th November is the hardest game we have.

There are 9 games between now and Peterborough game, if we were to get say 20 points in our next 9, we would have 42 from 19, we’d pretty much be on our way.
Just the 6 wins 2 draws and 1 loss to get to 20 points , that’ll take some doing
Yes, to an extent, but we are against:

    Gillingham A
    Burton A
    Ipswich A
    MK Dons H
    Shrewsbury A
    AFC Wimbledon H
    Bristol Rovers H
    Swindon A
    Plymouth H

Our home games all look and should be very winnable. Games away at Gillingham, Burton, Shrewsbury, and Swindon again should be able to win those or at least get positive results. The only hard one should be Ipswich.

We’ve beaten Portsmouth, Blackpool, Oxford, and Fleetwood recently, all of them should be top half with a couple at least pushing for top 6.

We now have a great opportunity against the ‘lesser’ teams in the league to really kick on.

With players getting fitter, and injured ones coming back, it’ll help with rotation and keeping players fresh. Sure we will pick up other injuries and suspensions, but we have a squad now that can cope with that.

I genuinely don’t see 20 points as a tough target to strive for.

We have just gained 22 points against some very good opponents for this league when we have been behind everyone else in terms of the squad and we haven’t even got everyone available to us yet.

There’s a long way to go, and we will have a bad little sticky patch, but I am very positive for this season. We have huge potential to do great things.
  • So much premature excitement... Let's wait and see where we are on 1 Feb

It's the Charlton way though isnt it mate... For years we've been able to match those around us, its the more physical teams we've always struggled to put to the sword so this run of form will be very interesting

Said when we lost to Lincoln that to get promotion from this level you need to find away to beat these teams who'll be more than happy to sit deep and worst case take a point... This run of games until Peterborough will give a good indication of where we could find ourselves come May.

If we're largely unbeaten then we put ourselves in good stead, still doesnt mean anything though as like you say, there will still be a huge amount of games to play... Take Portsmouth in 2018/19 and how their form just crumbled when they hit January, we've absolutely no given right to be arrogant enough to think it wont happen to us
  • You can still get 1/5 with Skybet for us to be top half
I've just stuck another £1000 on.
I still can't see us not making the top half, even with our 2nd X1.
20% return in 6 months, is an annualised return of 40%.

    Another £1000?

I've backed us 3 times to be top half.
When I thought TS may take over, when he took over and again today.
I've also backed us a couple of times for top 6 and also for promotion.

When all else fails we've got some of excellent headers of the ball in the team. I can see Pratley and Innis earning us a few 1-0 wins this season.
  • Unless we get a major injury crisis or Paul Elliott miraculous snatches the club back, I’d say it’s between us and Peterborough
Far too early to make such claims.

Let’s see where we are in Jan, and how we are with injuries.

if we are in a position to go for it, it sounds like there could be just enough wriggle room for some more transfers manoeuvres from Thomas that could make the difference
Peterborough seem to go off like a rocket but eventually fall short every year.

Sunderland 11/4 your having a laugh
Sunderland 1/6 to make top 6. We are evens. I know I’m hugely biased but I don’t get it. Not complaining because easy winnings, but just don’t understand the logic.
A lot of Sunderland fans and others have backed them.
    The new Sheffield United.
    Who? Sunderland or Charlton?

In the last 10 seasons 95+ point is the most needed to win the title . . . Title was won by as little as 84 points in 2012/13 by Doncaster. . . Pro rata after 10 games we are on target for 105.8 pts . . . We won the title in 2011/12 with 101 points . . . Just saying . . 👍
    Answer to original question: No
So long as we're in the shake up for promotion and have been able to retain the management team and key players, we'll be good and the season will have been a success.

Excellent logic and I agree with it.

Well done for having the guts to actually do it.

Sunderland. Every single season Sheffield United went of as 5/2 favourites for the title.
  • Ah, I see, but Sheffield United got to the Premier League within ten years. Hence my question.

But they were six years in League 1 when they were favourites to win the division almost every year.

Had a few minutes so did the mini league. Hasn't come out too bad. Bear in mind our dropped points were right at the start before we had a proper squad.
