Nothing wrong with this pitch. At the half stage the Windies are 96-2. Some very impressive hitting from them but, equally, some poor executions from us too.
224-5 innings closed. West Indies highest total against England and second highest against anyone. Highest winning chase at the ground is 155 so we will do well to get anywhere near the 225 required. Good job we elected to bat second!
Magnificent innings from Powell (107 off 52) backed up by Pooran (70 off 43)
Awful disciplines from most of our bowlers. Rashid and Topley bowled 8 overs for 55 runs (7.86 per over). The other four bowlers went for 165 off 12 (13.75 per over)
The pitch is good but not 224 good. We bowled poorly imo but not helped by no variation in the quicks but not fornthe usual reason! Usually we are looking to the left armer to mix it up but here we had 3 left arm quicks and beyond that none of them have real variations or cutters. Even a Curra/Willey with swing in the early kvera would have been q slight variation. Topleys extra bounce helped him.but beyond that we had no one who can bowl yorkers, no cutters no real variations other than the odd slower ball, made it too easy for them.
Taller windies bowlers will tear through this inexperienced but deep England batting lineup.
I have a feeling that windies will look back on this series as the rebirth of their team in the same way that we look at that one day series against NZ after the 2015 world cup.
Vince has to be one of the enigmas of all time. So predictable too. Looks classy, plays some fabulous shots and then just gives it up as he always does
That might be good planning by the Windies but it's very poor batting from Moeen. Coaches say batsmen shouldn't worry about getting out a certain way unless it's becoming a habit. Not moving your head/feet to wide balls is a bad habit to have.

Good job we have our death bowlers to come!

Not often that you are going at more than 10 per over but find yourself even further behind the run rate!

Also a fan of Salt though if he gets much of a bat at 7 we are screwed.
Banton going nicely and justifying a bit of the hype that has followed him for a couple of years.
