Last week I mentioned that Jaskaran Singh was potentially the one fast bowler that could make it as a pro. I really wasn't expecting him to make his 1st team debut a matter of days later! There is one other to keep an eye on albeit that it will be a few years before he follows in Jas's footsteps.
His name is Barney Ford. He plays for Dartford 1s, is probably about 6' 2'', a left armer (always useful to have one of those) and possesses a lovely easy action. He played this week in a 3 day game against Middlesex for the Kent U18s and returned figures of 22-4-63-3. He's only 15 and he's not short of pace now so who knows how fast he will be when he fills out and stops growing!
How fantastic would it be to see those two opening the bowling for Kent in three or four years time!
Barney has been selected to play for the London & South East Under 15s at the Bunbury Festival this summer. For those that aren't aware, the Bunbury pulls together all the best U15s in the country to play in a four team competition. A lot of the current England squad took part in this at that age.
There are two other boys from Kent that have been selected - Ekansh Singh, a classy top three bat, who plays for Orpington and Vish Parakarima, a hard hitting bat, who is at Bromley.

Wish all three every success in the tournament.
For those Hundred aficionados who state that one of its raisons d'etre is to encourage young 'uns to follow cricket, surely this kind of competition on a regional basis would do far more to encourage the kids ?
"Wow, Dad/Mum! Could I really hit a ball that far when I'm a bit older, if I practise ? "
Watching participants not much older than themselves would surely whet their appetites more ?
Watching our match at Worcester on stream & very impressed with the batting of George Munsey & Harry Finch, bless their cotton socks.
At 65 -3 and with Kuhn failing once again with the bat, they came together & have now put on 176 with Munsey reaching his century & Finch approaching 80.
Fantastic stuff !
We first saw Munsey bat at Lords and he SHOULD have reached his maiden 100 last Thursday at Beckenham where we were watching /perspiring in the sun.
But, as I applauded his 96th run, I commented to my friends that it would be great to witness his century...
...and of course, he was out the next ball. DOH ! Sorry, George- mea culpa.
And lo & behold, as I post this, young Harry is my 2nd victim in 3 days...out for 84.
I promise not to comment again, Spitfires.
I am, however, still available for my legendary rain dances, should the need arise.
No great surprise but James Logan has signed a contract through to 2023. He has bowled superbly since being signed on a short term contract.
Meanwhile, Tim Groenewald has been forced to retire due to injury. This, I believe, was the prime reason that Quinn was signed on a long term contract.

The right player at the right time, with Qayyum having to retire. Quite a jump from having a trial in June to signing a 2.5 year contract, less than 2 months later though

That's good news.
Don't expect he's a "former Aussie/S. Africa/NZ " bowler ?
Just read that "former Australian fast bowler, Daniel Worrall" has signed for Surrey on a 3 year deal.
Of course he holds a UK passport & as such, will not be classed as an overseas player....Hmmm, haven't I heard this somewhere before ?
Oh, he also states he is proud to accept the contract offer & is "honoured to play for the most prestigious club in the UK " !
Went today. I know they would never have got through the overs but it's frustrating to pay £25, see them go off for rain, then wait so long when it's dry and sunny to decide to have a pitch inspection, by which time it's raining again. Honestly, the kids I took played longer than the players.

Kent need 323 runs to win from 38 overs
Durham win by 103 runs

Do Scotland internationals count as overseas players, as Irish ones do now?
Worcestershire need 308 runs to win from 47.0 overs
leach did the damage with 88 from 51
