I wouldn't really call it 'savvy' if we end up with a depleted squad because he isn't willing to pay the going rate for players.

To make this even funnier, I’ve been told that Henderson could be gone aswell…
If that is the case and it wasn’t us moving on, why are we finding it so hard to get deals over the line? Is it the current unusual transfer business of this summer, or something wrong with the way we do it?
I was told a month or so ago, that TS has been a lot more savvy financially than he initially let on, in relation to contracts for players both first and 23s some of which are no longer with us...as you can appreciate players talk to one another
I don’t mind him tightening the purse strings at all - when you consider some of the contracts dished out to players under previous ownership is it any wonder? That said, clearly we are thin on the ground and need players in. The sooner this transfer window is shut, the better.

Only if we've got a few in first....
  • Is it savvy or he just does not have the money?

By ‘savvy’, do you actually mean ‘tight’ ?
Or does he see the market as currently depreciated with assets available at below market price? Is is about waiting for the better players to become available when they realise there is nothing else?

Look at how quickly we moved for Clare and, if the rumours are true, 100k seems like a steal.

I think we will only know if it is savvy or not when the window shuts.

    What does 'early doors' mean?
Early, near the start or beginning. Early; at a time before expected; sooner than usual.
When English pubs closed in the afternoon, customers who were waiting or arrived soon after the pub re-opened in the evening were known as 'early doors'.

I always associate that phrase with Big Ron!
I think he was first to use it in a football context - the origins go back to theatres opening doors much earlier than the scheduled start to allow those in the cheap seats to get the best spots.
Ha. Never knew that. I’d always understood it to have just been a Big Ron word salad. Great, I can start using it now:-(

Club must know by now that this deal is dead so lets move on. Like all of us,i'm extremely grateful for everything that Thomas has done for the club but something definitely feels a bit wrong now regarding new signings. Lets hope for the best ay?!

League 1 for you I guess, if we aren't willing to stump up we won't be able to build a league 1 God squad. Looks like he wants promotion on the cheap hence the 2 year deals and then re-assess. Not the worst idea if it pays off but it's not very likely it will when you think of the competition this season. Got two teams in Wycombe and Rotherham who have championship/high end league1 squads and went down fighting with good managers, then the usual suspects who will always be up there.

Can only hope in this case it’s a fan speculating and going off rumours he’s heard rather than really knowing what’s going on.

I throught I read somewhere he was signing for a club back in Ireland … then he was suppose to be training with us which I sort of questioned if that was true
    Ipswich O'Town
  • Have we phoned Madger Gomes to invite him back to the club yet?.....I'm waiting for that next after the latest Kirk & Henderson updates.

"Madger was 20th top of our list, and we're delighted to have fought off stiff competition for his signature"

Whether or not it's what we're doing, I think trying to do promotion on the cheap is actually a very bad idea. It normally doesn't work and even when it does, you realise we've spent more pissing around down here for a few years than we would've done had we spent a bit more money in the first season.

I don't think we're being that tight but it sounds like we could be waiting too long on players trying to get them as cheap as possible,

I would imagine one of the reasons we aren't signing people is that we aren't as attractive a proposition as we as biased fans believe we are.

London is effing expensive to live in, and though our ground is a lot nicer than some of the tinpot sheds kicking about in League 1, it's bang average overall, the same can be said of our training ground.

With the wages being thrown about by other clubs in the division too, and the fact that our squad isn't star studded, I'd imagine it's actually quite a tough sell to get people to join us, it's very much a slow build project we have going on, and I think many players will be looking for clubs that are going for it a bit more, and willing to splash the cash

Does all feel a bit cheap. Not drawing parallels with the champions-elect though.

Frustrating if we’ve chased a player since at least January and it comes down to him not wanting to move south. Would like to think we could find that out much earlier on.
The comment suggests he wasn't overly keen on moving south but was happy to as it was just us in for him. But when clubs closer to home and more importantly in a higher division came in for him, then naturally he's going to think 'fuck moving to London'.

All guesswork i know, but i don't think it's a case of he was never interested.

Money talks and based on dealings so far we either don't have enough or not offering enough to make things happen.

Bowyer had a little moan back in January about our speed of movement in the transfer window, wonder if there's any of that stil l rumbling on (although I know were apparently signed Clare pretty sharpish)

Olly Groome, actually ITK, shutting down the Kirk rumour on Friday should be enough to tell us all it's not happening and it's time to move on
I think that was more to do with the rumour that it was an imminent signing on Friday
my cast iron source who would know more than olly groome said on saturday we should be completing the signing of a striker come winger on monday - so if olly groome has said that on Friday, its quite likely not Kirk but an alternative - we shall see
  • Still time for investment in the squad but can't hide how dissapointed I'm feeling atm.

Since the 1960's I've watched our club having to sell it's best players; then trying to buy replacements on the cheap, always shopping in the bargain basement.

Exception being when Murrey took cafc public and we bought a number of quality players.
I hope we are willing to pay the going rate, that's all.
If a championship side competes, then understandably that's a different situation.

Our fixed costs must be higher than the average for this league not least cos of our stadium and high quality academy.
Which is why it makes no sense to me that so far we don't appear to be investing enough in quality players.

It makes sense,  to me at least, to invest now so increasing our chances of promotion this season, so we don't end up with ( for example )  3 years of losses in this league.

Sounds like a much needed positive post @DOUCHER, and God knows we need some positivity don't we, and if only your "cast iron" source could substitute "should" with "will", then jobs a goodun mate B)

Don’t think that true at all considering we best Portsmouth twice and Sunderland for two players by offering better wages …. very simple up against other league one sides would say we are too 3/4 payers but the players we are going after are wanted also by championship teams and there no way any league one side can match their wages
