Yep agree with above sounds like he will not be staying which I feel is the right decision , wish him all the best if he does leave of course as he has been a great servant for the club.0
-
I read it as the club may be willing to offer a 1 year contract at a reduced rate with guaranteed coaching time, and Jackson's comments seem to suggest Pearce needs to choose between less playing and more coaching, or a 2 year playing contract elsewhere.4
-
Completly pointless stat alert 🚨 If he plays and scores against Ipswich he could end his Charlton stint at with an identical games and goals record to what he had at Bournemouth 😀4
-
I hope they give him another contract as a back up player. He always gives his all on the pitch and I’m sure the same on the training ground and with the youngsters.1

I think it is quite unfortunate that their is not some leeway in squad sizes with players at the end of their careers making the move into coaching. In the same way that younger players aren’t included in the maximum squad numbers as it is recognised they might not play many games but by not counting them in the numbers they still have some opportunity for league football. Could the same concession not be made for over 35’s in a coaching role at the club, who may not be expected to play as many games. If that was the case keeping Pearce would be a no brainier, but to use a squad place on him is perhaps not so attractive for the club.8

Jacko's quotes definitely make it sound like he can stay here and coach or he can go somewhere else and try to keep playing. If that's the case I think it's probably the right decision. It'll be a shame if he goes as he's been a solid servant during a largely unglamorous period for the club and is still capable of turning in a good performance. He's not consistently at level we need though and, in Lavelle, potentially his natural successor is already at the club.He does seem a grounded family man though so I suspect he'll make a good coach and role model if he sticks around. If we need more coaches for our stated aim of Cat 1 academy status I would think there could be room for him in the coaching setup.2

I’m not sure Jacko means it to sound so black and white- he spoke about this last night at the dinner and he said Pearce was in a similar situation to himself a few years ago where you still believe you can play every game. He said Karl Robinson helped him a lot through that transition and he’s trying to do the same with Pearce.1

I certainly haven't enjoyed every moment.11

I wonder if todays defeat will be one of the moments he's enjoyed the most?1

If you want to carry on playing, sorry Jason but there won't be a contract for you here.
But if you want to start a coaching career, there's some sort of deal on the table for you.

I just hope if Pearce goes it isn't because we want to keep Inniss as back up for Lavelle.3

If Pearce leaves he goes with my best wishes.
He may be well past his peak, but he always gave his all and I thank him for that.69 -
Find it astonishing anyone has a bad word to say about the guy.
He has been class for us for a number of seasons, perhaps this season was one stretch to far and I imagine he didn't expect to play as many games as he has done this season.
However nobody can doubt his attitude or enthusiasm which is more than can be said for some who have passed through the club in recent years.
If he leaves he goes with my best wishes, he if stays on the coaching staff then hopefully he will be a great addition.53 -
Legend as far as I am concerned!and if the bloke got passed him there is the pulling him down option?4

Never gave less than 100%. Not the greatest, not the worst.2

Better not offer Innis Mathews Purrington a new contract then. At least Pearce gave 100% every game.11

I don’t understand how anyone can feel genuinely happy about Pearce going, I think he still had something to offer as a backup option & as a experienced leader.

He can offer something, but not if we’re serious about promotion IMO.We can’t on one hand say we need a rebuild, but then on the other hand just cave and say he should carry on playing once his contract is up. Either we shake things up properly, or we just carry on faffing about in mid table. The right decision has been made.14

The right decision and Pearce goes with my best wishes (assuming he's not staying in a coaching capacity).2
-
With the squad cap in place it was the only decision to make.
Thanks for the memories, hope he stays as a coach if that's what he would prefer.2 -

got to be honest, not a fan of him as coach. Think he’s a massive flapper and quite cynical as a defender. Don’t really fancy a person coaching us who’s heights is a league one promotion player, we should and could be aiming for higher than that, sick of us being a charity for people to earn a wage.Warrior spirit, proper Charlton etc bla bla. The reality is I’ve watched that bloke be skinned and have to pull someone down for 4 seasons straight or occasionally win a ‘proper battle’ with an average league 1 striker here and there. Thanks for your time but no thanks. We have become far too sentimental, accepting mediocrity at the club24
