I know we had Stockley from the 2nd half of last season, but I reckon he will , if he stays fit score more than Chuks did from now till Christmas, and potentially create more chances for others, purely because he’s spending more minutes on the pitch and having a bigger impact on the game.
You think Stockley will score 15 in 23?
Sorry maybe I didn’t make myself clear, I don’t know how many goals Chuks scored from now till Christmas ( I doubt it was 15) but I think Stockley will score more than Chuks did for us in the same time period, from now till Christmas.
Ah right, gotcha. Yeah Chuks scored 15 all season, I think Stockley can get to double figures, but so still think we need another striker to help contribute to our tally.
I know you guys think Stockley is great but to me he is still showing donkey like tendencies, Ok he can head the ball and it is useful when we defend corners but so far in these friendlies he has left a lot to be desired as our main striker.
My fear is that if he is our main striker then he wont score enough to get us promoted. Usually with a big man up top you'd have someone playing off him or as part of a traditional front 2. Currently we have neither. Imo we still dont have a "main striker" and the fact that Schwartz has not had 1 second of a pre season game means it's even more likely he wont be featuring much, if at all, this season. That then leaves us with Washington (currently being played wide) and Davison (no experience or scoring record) to score the goals.
Nope. Just not working for me.
I will hold my hands up to say I've seen very little of us this pre-season and everyone is saying how good we look, especially in midfield. Unfortunately though that just seems to have shifted to problem from being a passing sideways team to a team with no end product.
Big debate on the rumours thread earlier about "who is going to score the goals" and I purposely didnt join in as I've said it all too often.
I've been told to wait a month until the transfer window closes so that I'll do.
Christ mate, don't hold back because of that bellyaching bunch of zealots
I know I’ve mentioned it before but Ronnie really hasn’t been Tommy’s finest hour. Rapidly reaching Polish Pete levels of financial wastage. Imagine if we had the money we spent on him now instead
‘We’ had the money ‘we’ spent on him? How much did you chip in then? 😉

That's an interesting concept. If 500 fans chipped in £10 a week that would pay the wages for a decent player in league one. Surprised a club hasnt done that yet.
Defensively we coped very well against a very mobile and fluid Fulham Midfield and forward line. I didn't have any issues with Gunter and Matthews as Fullbacks and the new Deji looked very comfortable against a pretty intimidating Forward. Famewo and Morgan stood out most of all. Poor Stockley didn't really get a sniff and the CB who marked him won most of the headers......this is where we need a plan B.
Dobson does all that work that doesn't really get noticed, but does it very well. Clare didn't show as well this time out but I think thetas down to the opposition rather than the player.
At times it felt like Fulham had 4 more players on the pitch than us....2 and sometimes3 players making it very difficult for Jaiyesimi to do much.
Fulham gave us a lesson on how to play out from the back today. At times it really didn't work for us and McGillivray looks uncomfortable plus his kicking was a bit Kielyesque. Im certain he is a good keeper and just maybe needs to get used to the style that Adkins wants to play.
Just a footnote really, I do get tired watching some of the tippy tappy play out from the back style of play.
Not specifically aimed at us but generally in football. Id like to see us mix it up a bit as it does get predictable for the opposition.
A good result against what I thought was a very good Fulham side. Looking forward to see how we fare next week.
I've also thought we have looked good in pre season with a very balanced and improved midfield and style of play.
I do have a concern on Stockley though. Purely because last season he looked unplayable as we were hoofing alot, but now we have changed style we arent seeing his aerial strengths so much, and are seeing the pitfalls of his lack of pace.
Clearly the left flank needs work both in LB and LW. Quite sure NA and SG are fully aware of that and working on it, despite the talk of Gunter being a good option.
And finally as other have said, it concerns me that throughout every minute of pre season we have stuck to 4-3-3, and have shown no Plan B. That's a little disappointing, I would have liked to have seen a 4-4-2 at some point for when we need to chase the game with another more mobile striker alongside Stockley. We desperately need at least an option in the front 3 with searing pace, because our current attacking 3 are lacking this. If we could bring in a pacey, tricky left forward then I think it completes us as a Top 2 level team assuming no injury crisis.
We'll lead 30 nil by the time Fulham arrive, Fulham will pull it back to 30-2 between 4 and 5pm, but then score 32 goals after 5pm after we've gone home to win 34-30
We could only score 1 and then no one to kick off.
True, but if we’re getting into technicalities the referee will call it off because the opposition have less than seven players.
Encouraging again. Looking forward to next week and optimistic but feel we are a few bodies short. Not convinced we are stronger than we were at the end of last season.

We most definitely are not. Maybe players know their roles better this season as there was so much rotation last.

That Law no longer applies. When you get down to 20 players you just yell COVID and the game is abandoned.

Yep, it's called doing a Lincoln City.
And don't forget promoted Peterborough on a dire run before Christmas, were too afraid to play the stuttering not quite all-conquering CAFC ..... and cried, "Covid".
And then beat us on their quagmire pitch 6 weeks later. Genuine or tactical. You decide.
Me too, except for a short spell where he gave the ball away and missed a tackle. Both he and Dobson are a bit more energetic and pacy than Watson and Pratley.
Agreed although he should’ve scored when DJ laid it back to him in the box but blazed it over when it was 0-0.
None of our middle 3 look like they can score goals. This will cause problems as neither of our strikers are prolific.
So what is the reason for a lack of signings? Sorry not been on here much.
The big fan fare of TS's arrival causing clubs to quote silly money when we come knocking?
No players available that would improve the squad?
TS skint?
The transfer market is slow throughout football. Most clubs still need several more players. Pompey’s and Sunderland’s managers have said similar things on it like Adkins has.
However if you’re sceptical about TS, glass half full or into conspiracy theories you may believe it’s our small budget.
Speaking to a big Sunderland fan at lunchtime they beat Hull 2-1 yesterday but was concerned about the lack of players available to help their promotion push and had no fullbacks yesterday with two CBs having to fill in 😯.

Yup they have no full backs, one senior striker, no depth. It's almost like everyone is in the same boat. If only all the managers came out and said something.......
If clubs currently can’t afford full squads then of course they’ll all be massively vulnerable if two or three players are lost to long term injuries. This is why I can see an argument in this post covid restrictions environment for each club being able to make one transfer outside of the windows, at least for this season, when their squads through necessity are a bit thin.
I know the arguments against, but still think in these unique circumstances the rules need a temporary shake up.

Just abolish the window for loans. I don't see why short term loans were such a problem that it needed fixing.

I believe the decision was made at an international level, I seem to remember UEFA making financial threats against English Football in order to get rid of them.

Ah, didn’t realise that. But you’d imagine that almost all European league clubs will be struggling post covid.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that League One/3rd division clubs cannot afford to have 25 man squads with two strong options for every position after a year and a half with no revenue coming through.
Why do some fans think we’re different? Just because we have an owner who isn’t skint?
He’s running the club like a self dependent business - as it should be. Personally I wouldn’t want to be in a position where our success was purely dependent on one man’s money. After all, that one man can go and move on at any given time.

That is a conversation I have had with a mate who is a big Chelsea fan. When the time comes and Abramovich pops his clogs or get arrested by Putin what will happen to Chelsea ? But I suppose the same can be said for any of the big clubs. Tbh I wondered what would happen with Leicester after the tragedy that their owner met but fair play his family are still fully committed
