EU to raise €140 billion from a windfall tax on energy companies. Truss is so out of kilter with practically everything. Instead of financing the help for the energy crisis from excess profits that EXCESS profits shes asking us to fund it over years. The sooner we have a GE the better.
By comparison what is the UK estimate on the additional tax revenue the windfall tax that we do have? (and additional corp tax just by virtue of increased profits?)
Or will we only learn that from the fiscal event / mini budget in the next week or so?
That increased tax revenue would also apply to the EU. What the U.K. is proposing is to allow the the energy companies to carry on making excess profits while we pay. I’d say that what the EU is doing would be fairer and certainly more popular.

Yes, the clue is in the word excess.
With the £400 payments, our energy usage is unlikely to cost much more so, possibly less, so I need to renegotiate my direct debit as it is nearly double my usage. In a way it is a good savings scheme as I am racking up a lot of credit in no time at all.

So we don’t know yet I assume. Let’s see what the totality of the fiscal event is next week.
My point you gloss over is that we do have a windfall tax. The scale is the unknown.

And the devil is in the detail on the EU one, doesn't apply to gas producers for a start.
Did mine yesterday and it took me about an hour to actually get into my online account and then it timed out over and over again! (Scottish Power). I hate to think what the website will be like today!
What happened recently before the price rise was the companies had to extend the period as all the wensite were down. Have they beefed up their websites since?
Just read my gas meter & entered the readings online to British Gas, no problem at all.
Yep Octopus was fine too.
Anyone else playing “how long can we go until we turn the heating on this Autumn/Winter” too?
I'm still working from home... Got cold on Tuesday during the day so put my dressing gown on.
Even when my Wife and Son have been home of an evening I've said no to it going on for now unless absolutely necessary - I mean she decided to have a bath last night, so told her the heating could go on for two hours so she wasn't cold getting out, and then the heating went straight back off.
Will of course relent the longer we get into winter... But c'mon, cant be putting the heating on before October.
My main tactic this winter is to just put more clothes on when its colder, so by March I'll look like the Michelin man

British Gas you have until the 14th October to submit your meter reading
Doesnt need to be done today - Various for other companies from what Martin Lewis was saying yesterday
I am on an Edf fixed tariff, and received this in an email ..
You’ve probably seen the
recent announcement of the Government Energy Price Guarantee coming into
effect on 1 October – as you're on a fixed tariff there’s no need for you
to provide a meter reading right now. Your prices are fixed until the end
date of your contract. UNQUOTE
no mention of 'unless we have asked for a meter reading

Sod that, heatings on!
Yes - it's been on a couple of times this week, but it is much colder up t'north.
wimp. How long you been up north now Bob? 10 years for me and I'm very much hardened. Admittedly I have had to stop wearing shorts round the house this week

Go to bed early with a hot water bottle. And turn the heating off much earlier.
You can always read, study Scottish Gaelic or spend all night on Charlton Life. Maybe you've even got a telly in the bedroom.
Rememember, you've got each other to keep warm. No more babies though ..... they're even more expensive to run than your heating.

Finally getting an upgrade from a SMETS1 to SMETS2 smart meter (that the DCC would be unable to update), after asking for a complaint reference so I could go to the energy ombudsman.
I then told them that I'm appearing on a Martin Lewis energy special in 4 weeks (I'm not) and now I'm getting my smart meter installed.
Can't wait. Also got a heat pump tumble drier coming which should save £5k over the lifetime of it Vs a normal tumble drier.
currently on hold with Bulb as yesterday has 15 credits put on our account for 'statement correction' so now 4k in credit, but then they will debit us the correct amounts where we have been undercharged for for 15 months.
No idea how this has happened as we are on a smart meter - please refer to the smart meter thread where I am one of the railing against being expected to use one of these devices.
Am waiting to tell them that as per Ofgen they cant 'back bill' more than 12 months anyway and that i am not paying any adjusted balance that has accrued since may last year and will be cancelling my direct debit with them until resolved
Bought a Tower slow cooker last week. £24.99 (half price, from TX Max). So far so good. Incredibly simple to use, really works well, and will save a bomb on the bills.
Have also ordered a Ninja Air fryer. Have friends who absolutely swear by them. They make life easier, and again are very energy efficient compared to the alternatives.

You don't need to send us a reading if;
- You have a smart meter that's sending it's readings for you, even if you're on a variable tariff
- You're on a fixed tariff - unless we've asked you to send us a reading.
