Also not a fan of Stockley as captain. He doesn't come across as a leader, and you can see him moaning at players. Seemed an odd choice at the time, and the more I see him with the armband, the more my view is reinforced.
Also, we have continued our 100% defeat record against Cheltenham. FFS Charlton, we have enough bogey sides from the established league teams without getting new one from a non-league standard wannabe rugby team.
2nd goal...Famewo couldn't be bothered to come out and go tight on their forward. The forward, received the ball under no pressure, turned and played to the winger. Famewo going tight wouldve forced the forward to play back or lose the ball. Very poor.
Why sign Dobson and Clare if you believe in as a manager that Morgan and Watson are the answer. Dobson should have been on for one of the two at halftime.
Worst first half I have seen from a Charlton side in many years in the flesh. Second half papered over some large cracks.
To be fair, I dont think he has signed any of these players.
Interesting. I thought he was part of a four man recruitment team with him, Roddy, Gallen and Sandgaard who decide on players coming in
From what Gallen told us this week, Adkins is on the receiving end of who the rest of them recruit.
NA has made Stockley his talisman, captain, all our play dedicated to his style (i.e just long balls), think it might be his downfall, a) makes us too inflexible b) Stockley isn't good enough to have that much responsibility
Just listened to Adkins post match thoughts. He’s said the right thing, didn’t try to dress it up, but he has to act on it. The only thing I worry about is saying ‘regardless of their (Cheltenham) formation we have to do better’. For me, he should’ve seen we were getting overrun. He said our wide players were too wide and that’s why Morgan and Watson got overrun, but then that’s a reflection on the formation as a whole, surely?
Feels symptomatic of a significantly flawed recruitment strategy and a wasted transfer window and pre season. Yes the deficiencies were mitigated last minute bringing in Leko and a couple of others but it felt like it was by necessity rather than design.
Playing a right footed right back at left back has created an unnecessary hindrance/ inhibits our potential.
Listened to the Charlton Live Crewe preview and their fan said their club were in complete disarray so felt the win was perhaps a false insight into where we're at but decided to subdue that thought and cling to the last minute optimism the late dealings brought but feels like reality bites today and deeply concerning that we're losing at home in this manner.
Wasn't there today but reads like it was grim and against opponents of lesser quality than we will face in weeks to come.
Quite simply it does not appear the squad or those assembling it are good enough for a serious push at this level based on what's been played out so far.
Adkins is a clueless has been period. ” Johnny oh Johnny Jackson please Run my team for me”👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 the reason Stockley and others looked out of place is Adkins system is Shite 👎👎👎
I’ve seen some shite in my time at the valley but that first half was one of the worse I’ve seen.
Also, why was people (a large amount) clapping Cheltenham players off the pitch at full time… embarrassing!
I didn’t clap them at the end but I stood and clapped their second goal. I’m not blinkered enough to not recognise when the opposition has scored a good goal.
Supporting Charlton has its highs, lows, some more lows, other lows, achievable lows and staring into the pit of oblivion sorts of lows. I fear that I am experiencing the latter tonight, like standing with a clenched fist of the finest dry sand that is escaping my grasp no matter how tightly I grip.
Also, if Adkins is sticking with this formation, then get DJ and Kirk out and Leko and Blackett Taylor in. I don’t think he can carry on with his 4-3-3, but if he does, Leko is a step up on both and neither have done enough to justify a first team spot so why not give Blackett Taylor a go. He might be hungrier given he’s only on a 6 month deal
Just walked in!! Another very long day, but met an old buddy of mine for the first time in 52 years @Redrobo, we were with @TCE, @DaveStorry, @foresthillred and little TJ, his mum and Keith from Radio Sheppy a great bunch of people! Then we come to game... first half we were shit, second half we weren't quite so shit! I'm annoyed that the game ruined an otherwise great day!! I'm still that bloody fuming about the game I'll post my thoughts tomorrow!!
I have never been one to dig players out and let me be clear that Watson has had a stellar career and achieved some pretty incredible things in the game, not many people have scored an FA Cup final winner. I also know a lot of Forest fans who raved about him whilst he was there which wasn't to long ago so he is clearly a quality player even if age is against him.
However I have no grasp of what he brings to this team. Players seem to glide by him with such ease it's almost embarrassing. You could let that go if he was pinging 40 yard diagnol passes or bagging 10 goals a season but he doesn't do any of that either. As one of the most experienced pro's you'd at least expect some leadership qualities but he always seems anonymous whenever I watch him, never picking players up or digging anyone out.
Morgan, Claire and Dobson haven't looked like world beaters either but at least you can say there young, have potential to improve and will likely be here for a while longer to develop. I know Morgan gets a lot of criticism however I can at least see what he is trying to bring to a game even if it doesn't come off that often. Clare and Dobson haven't been here long enough to judge but at least if you asked me what their role was I could kind of describe the players they are and what they bring.
I get the argument that defensive midfielders do a lot off the ball that you don't necessarily notice, and he still seems to get picked a lot, by two managers now, so clearly they feel he brings something but I just don't see it.
I know our hands were tied in the summer with his contract situation but this team is crying out for someone like Pratley. Even when he wasn't playing well you could see him scrapping and communicating with players around him, I never see any of that with Watson.
Beginning to wish we'd taken the option of T20 Finals Day next Saturday instead of the cheaper trip to Wycombe.
But, where there's life, there's hope as they say.
I bravely decided to take one for the team by "glowing" in the unexpected autumn sun wearing the yellow sweater that had witnessed the 6-1 victory in the Pizza Cup recently....
....but I hadn't factored in the "this IS Charlton ! " element. DOH !
So, another one bites the dust !
Little to add as per usual & have to agree with the majority of posters that this was yet another very disappointing performance.
Yes, Stockley works his socks off but long, high balls to him are NOT the answer. And if the gaffer fails to recognise this after today, then Specsavers is due an urgent visit.
We now have a plethora of forward looking players who can make pinpoint passes on the floor & take on their opponents but why is NA not asking them to play to their strengths?
Indeed, I recognise that the tardiness in recruitment plus the dreaded international break may have hindered him in defining the best starting eleven this afternoon but if a further 4 or 5 days at SL doesn't clarify this, then, sadly, I foresee sickeningly wide smiles on the faces of Ainsworth & Evans by the time that Portsmouth arrive in SE7.
Nigel - You now have the necessary "tools" ( no offence meant !) at your disposal.....hopefully not too many to confuse the issue.
Now's the time to be bold, gung ho even ; throw off those shackles that served you well at Southampton ; use the formation that's tried & tested throughout the Leagues ; empower those whose skills show they can make things happen on the pitch and finally, show our lads that you have every confidence in their ability to turn this current situation around.
The backing & encouragement from the faithful is a given- there for all to hear this afternoon.
how do we go from 2 up front 23 shots and First win of season back to one up front and 1 shot on target it’s not rocket science is it.why would you change it
I love Jackson as much as most, but why would we entrust him with the side when he can't even organise our set pieces?
I agree with this. We don’t know if Jackson would be any better than Adkins, I think it’s more of a romantic charm given his stellar playing career with us.
Sorry are you saying this about 4-2-3-1 which we played today or 4-3-3?

Yup we were all saying after 10 minutes what was happening and why didn't we drop to 4 in midfield. Really really poor game management, school boy stuff.

Getting to the point now where I wish Jackson had been given the job. Adkins record is good and he’s a very positive man, but if he leaves I hope Jackson gets it because it’s the only way I can see him wanting to stick around, if he is number 1.
Anyway, on to today. It was one of the worst first half performances I’ve seen. It was horrible and they were crap.
I don’t know how Morgan continues to get so many people defending him, he’s had long enough now. He can’t defend, he continuously losing his man or gives up tracking him, he offers nothing offensively, he doesn’t score, he doesn’t have dribbling ability or take players on, he doesn’t get stuck in, he doesn’t show for the ball, and what is meant to be his strong part of his game, his passing is inconsistent.
Stockley was awful today. If he plays up front on his own again this season, Adkins will have shown he does not learn. He said he must reflect and take responsibility, well do the basics yourself and put a team out to get the best out of each other, play to your strengths.
Washington and Leko have to start next week, we are a much better team with Washington playing and Leko brings us something no one else in the squad can do.
Thankfully, we still have a number of players to come back or into the team properly. Inniss, Purrington, Souaré, Gilbey, Arter, Clare, Davison, Schwartz. 6 of them I would have in the squad, 100%.

Now, the ball is in your court.
Onwards & upwards.
we miss the goal during shooting practice in the warm up.
Adkins is pointless
Losing to Cheltenham...Premier League Ambitions....bollox....manager is a wet fish
If we were playing 4-2-3-1 no one told Kirk.
