An incredible performance - players seemed utterly clueless. Kirk and DJ were shocking and Watson/Morgan were invisible.

I have no idea what goes on in training - no energy and no closing down.

Losing faith in Adkins - embarrassing to be outclassed by Cheltenham.
Did you listen to his post match comments?

He's fuming with the squad and it's very clear no one's position is safe now we have competition for places.
He's fuming with the squad?! He's the fucker that's put them together and coaches them every fucking game

Starting Watson and Morgan in central midfield what an absolute pile of shit.  No more chances for Morgan he is shit wherever he plays. The boy is no where near good enough.  Watson is a sack of shit as well. The whole set up of this team is crap. Absolute sick of it now

Didn't hear them. Looks like the players aren't listening?
  • Never wanted Adkins, gave him time and backing anyway but unfortunately I have no good will for him and so his window of time is shorter than others might get. And today was really alarming ; we had a terrible squad for the first couple of games but tbh with Kirk, Lee, Leko, Lavelle and even the palace left back all added, IMO we should be in the play off picture. Tactics, selection and player management are to blame for such a toss performance today. If we’d gone for a rookie who was learning I might forgive that but Adkins is supposed to know what he’s doing now.

Given that it looks like he doesn’t, he can bugger off back to Scouseland and I await the appointment of a manager from London please

Morgan shouldn’t be anywhere near the u23’s let alone the first team. Awful player both on and off the ball.
In fairness the rest weren’t much better.
  • Awful first half, really don’t see anything in Watson, Morgan or the two wingers. No tackling no pace no decent passing and no energy.
Having said that the manager appears clueless, if he can’t see that his system is useless then we are doomed with him in charge.
A lot better when Lecko came on but Jesus that was a terrible first half.

Well I'd guess that is why he was fuming.
  • Well things can only get better. That’s the only positive.
  • Our most convincing performance of the season was overseen by Jacko, I know it was only Crawley but he got us ticking over nicely.
  • We were so bad in the first 30 minutes and  at 1 0 down I wondered if Mathews was told to go down injured to give Atkins a chance to sort it out.  After a 5 minute team talk the game restarted and we went 2 0 down.

  • There will be a Dagenham and Redbridge moment when everyone knows the decline must end and things will begin to turn around. That hapless, hopeless , toothless, clueless first half should be it, but I fear it won’t. Judging by the opposition, league position and what I was ashamed to see unfold before my eyes, that first half was the worst Charlton performance it has ever been my displeasure to clap eyes on, and there have been some shockers over my 50 years on the terraces. I hope that will be our no-more moment. God help us if it isn’t.

I’ve heard Charlton fans say that for years. When we were in the Premiership “things can only get better” when we were in the Championship “things can only get better”
    There is a league 2.
  • Positives - Leko is class at this level . Papa looks good as well .

Negatives - Has it taken us all of these games to work out that if the oppo stop Stockley we have no plan B.  What’s wrong with him dropping deeper and playing it through the lines ?

We completely lost the midfield early on . When they broke we had no-one tracking back and busting a gut to get there. Watson can’t do it any more  and Morgan has been exposed by successive managers  for this.

When we have the ball at the back there is no movement at all . Where is the midfielders coming back to pick it up, get busy playing 1-2’s as a result all we are doing is hoofing it upfield.

If stockley is getting bullied off it by their CB ‘s what wrong with taking him off and playing Washington and Leko and expose the defences lack of pace ?

Sorry Nigel if you were disappointed with the players you should have acted earlier.

  • A comfortable win for Cheltenham. Just like it was a convincing win for Wigan a few weeks ago. But today we expected more from our team and all put in a less than average performance. So disappointing. Gunter shouldn’t have started and the midfield was non existent. Stockley knackered. Tactics was the clear problem today though and we got that wrong. As Airman alluded to, unless things pick up in the next couple of games, something will change and it has to.

    And beyond, ask Southend fans.

You think he managed that throughout?! I think he was just on the touchline for the game, but can't be certain.

Adkins ain’t going anywhere, no way TS will get rid of him at the moment. He wasn’t my choice for manager either, but it’d be best to park any misgivings you have about him for now because he will be our manager for a while yet.

I'll say it once more .. ADKINS MUST GO .. our squad is nowhere near as bad as our position suggests .. the problem is Adkins expecting his players to play fancy formations when even a blind man can see that we need to go with a basic 4 4 2 .. we have signed wingers, but play one big striker who is useless alone up front and is always outnumbered when the crosses come in ..  Adkins expects Morgan to run the midfield alongside the statuesque Watson, ridiculous .. for the second time recently, when we are behind (as at MK), he doesn't bring on an attacker as a late sub, he brings on Watson (MK) and today takes off a central defender and replaces him with a left back .. OK, perhaps the idea was to get down the wing as an attacking left back, BUT we have five wingers now who are employed to do that, at least I hope that's the case .. training> Today we had ONE shot on target. I can imagine Adkins filling his player's heads with fancy formations > go here, go there, fill that space there, close down there .. you win football games by scoring goals, how is that achieved when PROFESSIONAL footballers earning big money (YES even in L1) can't shoot straight .. I suspect that Adkins is too stupid to make his players do drills, repetitive drills of the simple stuff; passing, heading, SHOOTING.

I don't care that 'we are only at the start of the season' .. Adkins was a very poor choice at the outset, he is yesterday's man and he needs to be thanked for his efforts and then sacked

I don't know, but that's the only game this season where I've felt there was some sort of a plan. I can't really see what we're trying to do at the moment, we're rudderless and we look unfit.
  • Too many had a poor game today to single out individuals. The only way we’ll get results with this group of players is if we play 442. First half made it abundantly clear that the way Adkins has them setup is not working. Looked better 2nd half with Leko up top with Shockley but we’re talking about chasing a game at home against Cheltenham.  Worrying.

Definite different tone in his post match interview. He's not sugar coating it

Lost one of his first 10, put in a decent preseason against tough sides, six league games later

    ADKINS OUT is being bellowed...

I am not sure I agree.

Let's see where we are in 9 games. 15 played total THIS season should certainly be a fair judgement point.
  • May aswell do away with the midfield and keep on practicing famewo hoofing it up to stockley. It may pay off one day.

    We don't have a midfield.

Something Adkins has said he doesn't want us doing.

    Bowyer said similar.

There is so much wrong with the performances that Airman Brown's view that Adkins may have only 2 games left seems right.

The defence has looked porous from the start and none of the centre back pairings have looked convincing. Not having a proper left back has made it look worse, but not caused it.

The midfield pairings have not worked. Maybe if he can get Arter it it might improve but generally there is no dynamism in midfield. Lee might work there but Arter would have to carry a heavy defensive load.

Stockley up front alone does not work and yet Adkins persists.

As I said, so many things need sorting and this does not even factor in that Kirk looks wrong at present, Inniss is an injury prone problem, there is no real back up for Stockley and even MacGillvray, tho obviously a good shotstopper, does not command his area and has given goals away, like today, by palming shots back to the opposition.

Its grim, and may need somebody other than Adkins to sort it out.

Also not a fan of Stockley as captain. He doesn't come across as a leader, and you can see him moaning at players. Seemed an odd choice at the time, and the more I see him with the armband, the more my view is reinforced.

This is the point where a manager stops blaming his players and rolls his sleeves up. We need to see that from Adkins. One thing I would do is drop Matthews, he can't play any sort of reliable cross unless you count reliably bad. The full backs are too isolated from the wide players. It is crazy!
