Some great action there, but right at the start was that Gunter (who is as bad as Matthews), who just stood still and let their player run in unchallenged?

How can an experienced player be that inept week in week out?
I mean you don't even have to be able to play football, to be able to run alongside someone and keep goal side of them.
It looks to me as if he’s slightly distracted by a player advancing out wide and is telling someone to pick him up whilst trying to hold a high line. However the opponent points to where he wants the ball and times his run to perfection. I agree though he switched off momentarily which is all it takes and McGillivray saved his bacon and a disastrous 0-1 early doors.
  • Solid performance.  Kirk and Lee teamed up well and added much needed creativity.  They both perform so much better when the two midfielders behind them provide energy and cover given their defensive limitations. Can Arter and Gilbey provide that all season - I hope so because, I am not convinced that the likes of Dobson, Morgan or Watson can cover that much of the pitch.  Typical Leko performance - frustrating most of the match but then 2 or 3 moments of absolute brilliance. Defense was a little shaky in possession which will be a concern until at least January. Also, I am not completely convinced yet with Davison and Soare.  Davison has shown a lot of energy and decent pace this year, I just don’t know if he has that scorers mentality to lead the line.  I would lean towards Stockley and Purrington as long as we don’t revert to hoof ball with Stockley.  All in all,  positive signs

That was a cracking 1st touch by the Fleetwood 32, then great vision decisively picking out their striker with a long penetrating pass.
He created that goal opportunity out of nothing.

Davison works hard but he would not have scored the chance Stockley did today.

Stockley is the best forward at the club. He should start. Why overcomplicate things. If professional footballers cannot resist temptation to pump long balls to him they should be managed better.

That photo of Arter celebrating makes me think he cares. I think he will become a decent signing. @Leuth might not like my opinion though.
I agree with you … some have written him off far too soon
Yes, absolutely ludicrous to write him off when he’s hardly played. Bloke looks classy.
Never felt more nervous watching Charlton than in those last ten minutes. Great result though, and it’s just beginning to come together. Hopefully.

Two killer early tackles from Arter showed that he was up for it today. Lots of promising signs today.
  • Great result lads, on 12 hour days today, and just find out the score when i sneaked into one of our out stations and tuned in. (not supposed too by hey ho i am the boss). Just hope we can keep this going.

Just the same thing people said of Stockley for Josh's last couple of goals.
I like Davison but I thought the Portsmouth goal was a chance any professional striker should take.

We have got a big squad and in my opinion we need to focus on playing our best players. Fortunately the Adkins tombola spat out Arter, Gilbey, Lee, Kirk and Leko today which is our strongest 5 midfielders by miles. I think Stockley is the right forward to go with them.

Much better performance all round. We deserved the win, would have been sickening to concede at the death.

That wasn't a performance of a side who's manager has lost the dressing room. Loan players steaming into challenges and everyone giving effort, even if quality still lacked at times.

Of course it's only Fleetwood, but an away win in shit conditions is good wherever you get it. Results in this league are mad so I feel we can kick on from this.

Shout out to Fleetwood for being the most northern looking town around

……and that’s the posh part of town too.

Just out of interest as I didn’t see the game today, did our pattern of play go more direct when stockley came on, as this is the quandry  we have if we see him as the best forward but then that in turn doesn’t see us play our most effective football. Not that we’ve seen a lot of that this season!!😂

Agreed, he was pointing to Leko to get back & to get behind his man.
In doing so he lets his own player run through unchallenged for a one on one with the keeper.
I'm afraid both Matthews and Gunter are rank and they seem to be getting worse.
They can't even get the basics right.

Why not? He's improved a lot and I can see that continuing. The gap between them is a lot smaller than we thought it was in the summer.

He's now serious competition to Stockley and deserves to keep his place, though it was great to see Stockley score as a reminder he's a good player in this league.
In my opinion he hasn't got the positional awareness or all-round game (yet) to oust Stockley. I think we look more threatening in the box with Stockley on the pitch. I don't buy that Stockley being a target man means he can't be surrounded by players who either have the intelligence or skill to play to his feet or feed off second balls.

Of course ...... but he quickly got himself in the right place to score.
    That's the hard bit.

Even the chance he missed today, he anticipated well and got himself into the right place at right time.

A simple chance or tap in may look easy .......... but there's no chance to be even missed if the player is not anticipating, getting himself into the right position.
That's the often unappreciated striker skill.

  • It’s a great win, really pleased for Adkins and the team, but let’s not get carried away with one result.

If promotion is like reaching the peak of Mount Everest then we have basically just got in the Taxi on the way to Heathrow, we have a very long journey ahead of us.

Yeah, but the longest journey starts with the first step.

Oh, Lord ...... I sound like Nigel.

Davison's shown signs he's capable of getting into good positions, as well as his two recent goals he had chances today.

On the second part I agree, we have a team that should play decent football whoever is up front.
  • Amazing how the mood changes after one result.
Let's hope this is the start of an upward trend.
Let's hope so, indeed. It's needed. No time like the present to get a good run going and get ourselves up the table.
  • Doesn’t seem to be much noise about Morgan not getting minutes. Who has been keeping him out of the side. GIlbey and Clare is it? I don’t see many games out here so our formations are a little unknown to me.

Gilbey and Clare both have more dynamism and physicality in that position, Lee has proven much more effective in the attacking midfielder/second striker role where Morgan played (pretty ineffectively) before.

I think there's potentially a good player in Morgan but Nigel's style of play and formation really don't seem to suit him.
