I don’t think it’s possible to sum up her contribution to this country. It’s absolutely seismic.
Genuinely think this news will hold a bigger cultural impact for Britain than many realised it ever could.
In the eyes of the world, she is Great Britain. There is no higher icon that this country can lay claim to, or any country can lay claim to for that matter.
For all the politicians and celebrities in the world who can barely last 5 years without letting people down, the Queen racked up 70 years without ever dropping an ounce of class.
I think that the forum is going to have one hell of a time when she does eventually pass away. Not just CL of course but the entire country too. Just reading this thread it’s clear there is going to be divided opinions and maybe some folk will be genuinely very upset (I know I will be) and not want to hear anything other than sadness and respect for her. I suppose we will simply have to see how things turn out, but there will certainly be tension in the air. Anyway….let’s hope it’s a long way off yet and I’m seeing and worrying unnecessarily about things that aren’t really there.
RIP I most definitely will wish her. 70 years in one job is enough.
I’m sure there’s probably a few people on here who have met her. She came into the office of where I worked at the time and the sheer aura around someone approaching their late 80s was simply incredible.
She was immaculate. There was just something incredibly special, radiant and elegant about her and her presence.
A truly remarkable lady who rose above political differences when it was in the interests of her Country on countless occasions. The like of which will never be seen again.
Rest easy you have done more than your duty throughout most of our lives
I always sing the national anthem and I'm on of those dicks who looks down on people who don't or don't know the words. Like 95% of the population, in fact probably 100% of those who sing the national anthem I think it will be legitimately, emotionally heart wrenching to never sing it again on an occasion it would have previously been sung.
I'm not a royalist by instinct, but the question I have never been able to answer is who would be a better head of state than the Queen. I think we have entered the age where the institution needs to be run to her high standards to continue in the years to come. She is the standard. And that is rightly a real challenge.
It is going to feel strange hearing the national anthem with new words. She was an ever present in most of our lives as far back as we can remember. Actually, since we were born. It is a reminder that everybody dies and then it is important how you are remembered and our Queen will be remembered with great respect and fondness. Of course there has to be mourning, but I hope that quickly turns to a celebration of a long life well lived and service to her people without equal.
The thing that has most brought a lump to my throat is the thought that my grandchildren won't have this remarkable lady in their lives. RIP to a fantastic monarch and servant to the Nation

England away in Italy in a few weeks and I’ll def be singing GSTQ for that one, being so soon after her passing.
Listening to some reactions outside Windsor Castle and this one stood out: ”A guiding light A moral compass An example of how to conduct ourselves A sense of right and wrong”.
Sure I mentioned it on here before - When we moved out of SE7 and up to Mottingham, I'd get a bus on a Friday night from Mottingham to Woolwich Common and walk across the Common, over the wall of the cemetery, through the deer park and knock about with my mates down Pound Park, Harvey and Floyd Road. One rainy evening, I got to the crossroads of HaHa Road and Stadium / Repository Road when a copper stopped me on the pavement and the cars that were coming along HaHa Road. A few minutes later, a cortege of 3 or 4 cars started coming out the gates of what was the Military Hospital (now Stadium Road). In the middle was an old Daimler Princess with the lights on in the back and The Queen and Prince Philip in the back. Pretty sure I didn't bother telling my mates when I eventually got down Charlton as never thought they'd believe me.
Just to say I’ve deleted a number of posts in relation to a disgusting tweet made by Trevor Sinclair. You’ve done nothing wrong, I just don’t want this thread derailed by negatives, side issues or attention seekers.
Grateful if others don’t raise it again or post anything similarly controversial that might get posted on Twitter etc (or reply to this, cheers all).
I'm no royalist but without doubt she was the epitomy of class, grace and dedication. There never was, is or ever will be anyone like her in the public image. A constant in everyone's life. A huge loss for this country.
Sadly I think you are right and they will wait until all the key royals are there before announcing formally - otherwise why the blanket BBC coverage and all in black
Would imagine that’s spot on. As idiotic as journalists can be, for something that’s been being rehearsed for decades, don’t imagine they’d do any of this unless they were told something definitive. Would have expected an announcement first but Lord knows what goes on behind the scenes of all this
Operation London Bridge above is the standard procedure - You'll notice that one of the actions is for the BBC to dress in black, once its happened - Of course because she's in Scotland; Operation Unicorn comes into effect.
Always been intrigued by the pageantry and protocol of it all because it truly would be one of the most important events in world history
would it really be though? it might seem like that in the UK, but it's not going to have any real impact anywhere else. Not really going to have any impact here either
Couple of Commonwealth Countries maybe;
Australia... Canada... New Zealand all have plans in place for when it happens
NZ is in official mourning. May she test in peace.

Terrible news if so.
I haven't seen anything else about it apart from the title
Rest in peace 👸 👑

Irreplaceable.
I feel immensely sad about this even though I've never regarded myself as an avid royalist.
She was a great woman and hard if not impossible to follow
A few tears have been shed.
Rest in Peace Your Majesty.
